Given this crossbreeds popularity, it is possible to find breeders, which is not the case for all designer dogs. Here are some options:

  • Golden Ridge Hi-Breds
  • That said, with any breeder you choose, be very careful to ensure they are reputable. With breeds not registered through the AKC, selecting a breeder is more complex, as the AKC is not around to vet them for you.

Inspect the breeders facilities, make sure they can provide you with proof that the breeding dogs are free of congenital disabilities and that their bill of sale is fair and thorough.

    Exercise Needs & Living Requirements

Expect at least one hour of intense physical exercise each day, not including mental training. In reality, your Golden Irish needs far more activity than this.

These dogs are not suited for apartments and do best with large houses and spacious yards to run around. Additionally, if you plan to be gone for extended periods of time, this is not the dog for you. They can get separation anxiety and, as mentioned, even suffer from depression, so you need to keep them with you as often as possible.

Some workouts to consider for your Golden Irish include hikes, playtime in the backyard, fetch, frisbee, agility, obedience, the dog park, swimming, or any other demanding activity. Remember that dogs skeletons are still forming until about two years of age, so dont ask them to do high-impact exercise before then.

Mental workouts are essential for Golden Irish and can often be more demanding than physical exercise. Regular obedience training offers mental stimulation and helps keep your dog sharp and responsive. Consider Kongs or other puzzle toys if you want a way to occupy your dog while you tend to other activities.

Remember that a tired dog is a good dog. When underexercised, they become mischievous and destructive. These dogs need their exercise, so you make sure its a priority.

    Irish Setter Puppies Temperament

If you want to buy an Irish Setter puppy, its smart to do a little research first. The Irish Setter is a friendly, loyal breed that makes an excellent companion for active families. They are known for their affectionate nature and their love of play. Although they can be boisterous at times, they are generally gentle and good-natured. Irish Setters are also intelligent and relatively quick learners. They excel at obedience and agility trials, and they make excellent hunting dogs. With their cheerful dispositions and endearing personalities, its no wonder that the Irish Setter is such a popular breed.

This good-natured, social breed doesnt like solitary time and needs companionship. They are very good with children, but their rambunctious nature may be a problem for families with very small children.

Does This Breed Get Along With Other Pets

Big Dogs for Sale (near me)

Even though Golden Irishes are friendly with people, they arent necessarily as great with other animals, though they are not aggressive. Golden Irishes can get really jealous of other dogs that are getting the attention from their owners.

Because of this fact, your Golden Irish may feel sad or depressed if you have another dog that is equally as clingy or needy. Even when the dog is jealous, the Golden Irish is unlikely to become aggressive to the other dog.

Because Golden Irishes have hunting genes, they are prone to chasing other animals, such as cats. Most of the time, the Golden Irish will not do anything aggressive or painful to the cat, but the chasing is something that your cat will not like. Stop this behavior as soon as you catch it.

Are These Dogs Good For Families

The Golden Irish makes one of the best family dogs. These dogs are super patient and loving for children of all ages. They are not known to be aggressive with young children, and they actually flourish in large households. Although active singles can offer a great house for a Golden Irish, they tend to enjoy having a lot of family members and friends.

With that being said, a Golden Irish is not the best choice if you dont have a lot of room for the dog. Even with all the friends in the world, this dog will become destructive, bored, and depressed if it doesnt have a lot of room to roam and play.

Additionally, you should always supervise playtime between any dog and a young child, including a Golden Irish. Although this dog is unlikely to be aggressive, there is always the chance that the dog could snip or snap at the child. It is much more likely for the dog to accidentally run into the child and knock it over from excitement.

They Are Fantastic Swimmers And Love It

As we mentioned above, Golden Irishes are great swimmers. Not only that, but they absolutely love the water. Both Golden Retrievers and Irish Setters love getting their paws wet and splashing about. Their descendants love it too. Dont bring your Golden Irish next to water unless you want it to get a bit wet.

    Golden Irish Puppy Price

The Golden Irish breed can get quite expensive depending on the breeder. Some breeders charge $1,000 and others charge up to $2,000.

If the breeder has their dogs registered with the American Kennel Club, they will likely be more expensive. Some breeders have dogs that are champion breeds with excellent health clearances if that is the case you will likely pay more for those puppies.

If the Golden Irish puppy price from a breeder is blowing your budget, then try looking at a Golden Irish rescue to see if they have any puppies or even older dogs at a cheaper price.

Even though this is a mixed breed dog, it still combines two very popular purebred breeds that are very expensive from breeders.

Dont forget there are additional costs for the rest of your puppys life that include food, toys, supplies, and of course, vet visits.

Whats The Price Of Golden Irish Puppies

Because Golden Irish puppies are a cross between Golden Retrievers and Irish Setters, they are considered designer dogs. Being designer dogs, they are on the expensive side. This breed is relatively rare. So, you should have at least $1,000 set aside for the puppy.

From our research, we found that Golden Irish puppies typically cost around $1,500, but the range for the puppies begins at $800 and tops out at $2,200. Very few breeders offer Golden Irish puppies, making it difficult to find breeders in all areas. The lack of breeders also means there are fewer options to choose from.

On top of paying for the puppy, you will also need to pay for food, a leash, a collar, vaccines, licensures, and more. With all of these prices put together, you can easily expect to pay over $2,000 for a Golden Irish puppy.

    Their Friendliness Is Deceiving

The Dog Days of Summer – My Golden Retriever/Irish Setter mix

Because Golden Irishes are so friendly, most people are shocked to find out that they were originally bred as hunting dogs. Golden Retrievers and Irish Setters alike were used for hunting purposes. When breeding two hunting dogs together, the outcome is another dog breed that is especially suited for hunting purposes.

From their athletic build to their hunting background, the Golden Irish is the perfect choice if you want a dog to bring with you hunting. At the same time, these dogs are super friendly, which is why most people dont think of a Golden Irish as a classic hunting dog.

    Did You Know

A Golden Irish is a designer dog breed that is a cross between a Golden Retriever and an Irish Setter. Although a mixed-breed dog can take on any combination of characteristics from either or both parents, a Golden Irish tends to be a friendly, social, affectionate, and energetic dog that loves spending time with their families.

Although the Golden Irish is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable canine organizations. The Designer Breed Registry, Dog Registry of America, Designer Dogs Kennel Club, American Canine Hybrid Club, and more all recognize the Golden Irish.

Golden Irish are great for single owners and for families. They are loyal to their favorite humans and also love to meet new people. Because they are friendly, playful, and love attention, they tend to get along well with children and tend to make great playmates for them.

They also tend to get along well with other dogs, but can have a high prey drive. As long as they have been socialized well with smaller pets in the household, they tend to be fine. But, they may still chase them from time to time. Golden Irish also tend to be open and friendly with strangers as long as they are properly socialized and trained.

Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues on to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both of the parent breeds. You can also ask about any available health clearances or test results.
