What Do Goldadors Look Like
Considering the Goldadorâs lineage, its appearance can lean more towards Lab or Golden Retriever depending on which parent has the more dominant genes. Despite their name, Goldadors are not exclusively amber, honey, yellow, or golden. Some are chocolate brown, which is still an appealing hue. Other Labradors are darker still with a pure black coat.
Goldadors tend to be single-colored rather than have patterns throughout their fur. Their coat is often not as long as a Labâs, and itâs wavier. Goldadors will shed moderately to heavily due to their double coat. If youâre looking for a hypoallergenic dog, the Goldador is not it.
A double coat has an insulating main layer known as the undercoat. Atop the undercoat is a coat of guard hairs. These guard hairs are the visible fur across your Goldadorâs body that keeps your dog dry and clean.
Goldadors are about the same height as a Lab or Golden Retriever, between 22 and 24 inches at their shoulders. They can weigh upwards of 80 pounds, which makes the Goldador a large breed.

Golden Retriever Crossed With Labrador Exercise Requirements
The Lab Golden Retriever Mix has an active temperament so they might get destructive if they get bored. It is recommended to exercise them at least 2 hours daily. Getting them to do physical activities every day will help keep him happy and healthy.
However, if you dont have the time to do at least 2 hours of exercise daily with them, then hiring a dog walker might be convenient.
If you arent the walking type, there are other outdoor activities you can enjoy with your dog. Here are some outdoor activities that you can try with your Golden Retriever Lab Mix:
Goldador Shedding And Grooming
Your new friend is going to shed, sometimes a lot. Both parent breeds heavily shed their coats with the change of seasons twice a year. For the rest of the year, expect a moderate level of shedding.
Increased brushing during transitional times can help catch the loose hairs and stop them from spreading everywhere.
Golden Retriever Labrador mixes will need weekly brushing, likely more during shedding season. In addition to weekly brushing, you will need to regularly brush your dogs teeth to help prevent dental problems and gum disease. Their nails should be trimmed regularly as well.

Highlights Of This Mixed Breed
Allowing Golden Labradors to have the needed exercising permanently is not only a requirement for physical maturity, but also a prevention method for becoming overweight, as they enjoy eating. Golden Labradors are generally good friends for children and they easily become good family members. They also get along quite well with other animals including dogs and this becomes easier if they had contact with them from an early age or raised together.
Keen on receiving their daily dose of exercise of at least thirty minutes, Golden Labradors are excellent companions for people who jog and they generally love to be outdoors. The Golden Labradors require some attention with regards to their coat, as it is recommended to be brushed on a weekly basis. They shed moderately.
Even if the perfect home for them is a house having a fenced yard, the Golden Labradors are able to adapt very well in apartments or condos, provided they receive the necessary amount of exercise.
Excellent choices for people who never had a dog before, the Golden Labradors are best to be obtained from a breeder with a good reputation who can prove and check the breeding history so that the dog is safe from genetic diseases that may occur later on or even be passed on to puppies. It is best to avoid getting them from pet stores or puppy mills, as only a professional breeder can check the genetic background so the Golden Labrador is up for a sound temperament.
Golden Retriever Lab Mix Puppies
As puppies, this dog breed is known to be very clumsy!
It is often said their big paws and long legs are always getting them into trouble.
In most cases they will grow out of this by the time they are 18 months old and have reached maturity, but this is not always true and they may retain their puppy like nature.
Depending on the parent there can be anywhere between four and twelve puppies in a litter.
A Golden Retriever Lab Mix is often sold as a premium puppy and because of this they cost between $1,200 and $3,000 USD.
However, for dogs that have pedigree parents, or show ring parents, prices can be as high as $5,000 USD.
Below is an approximate growth chart for a Golden Retriever x Lab Mix puppy.
Although the chart is an approximation, and it is healthy for your dog to be slightly larger or smaller than estimated, a large variation in weight may warrant a trip to the vet.

Meet The Parents: The Parents Breed History:
Parent 1: A brief history of the Golden Retriever parent a purebred dog
The Golden Retriever originated in Scotland, at the end of the 18th Century.
In 1868, Lord Tweedmouth, a British Aristocrat, wanted a loyal and hard-working gundog to retrieve waterfowl while hunting on his estate in Scotland. So he crossed a wavy-coated yellow retriever with a Tweed Water Spaniel and produced 3 Golden-colored Retriever puppies.
Fact: the Tweed Water Spaniel is now an extinct dog breed.
Lord Tweedmouth mixed this new breed Retriever with an Irish Setter dog to breed the recognized Golden Retriever dog breed.
In 1903, the Golden Retriever dog breed was registered by the UK Kennel Club, and they quickly became popular as family pets and show dogs.
The Golden Retriever breed was registered by the American Kennel Club in 1925 and now ranks as the 3rd most popular dog breed in the United States.

Where To Find A Goldador Puppy
Although itâs a designer dog, Goldadors arenât excessively pricy. You may spend between $400 and $600 for a Goldador puppy. When selecting a breeder, always do your research. Make sure the breeder has actual Goldadors rather than Labs or Golden Retrievers masquerading as Goldadors. Please skip the puppy mills, as the conditions these dogs are kept in are poor and their health may be as well.
The Verdict On Goldadors
If you are looking for the perfect dog, you might just find exactly what you want in a Goldador. These pups are intelligent, obedient, and highly trainable, which makes them great working dogs and loyal companions.
Still, though, their fierce loyalty and obedience dont mean they are all work and no play. They are also highly affectionate and friendly, which makes them ideal family dogs. Just dont count on them to act as a guard dog. They tend to be more curious and friendly than wary and territorial when it comes to strangers.
Overall, these dogs are:
- Energetic and athletic
- Highly loyal yet sensitive, meaning they cant be left alone for long periods of time
- Friendly towards anyone they meet
Bringing a Goldador into your life is a big commitment. Not only do they need lots of exercise, but they also need lots of attention. They are companion dogs that will offer you love and loyalty, but they also need that in return to be happy. This means youll need to avoid leaving them at home for hours on end, as they tend to develop separation anxiety.
However, if you are ready to make the commitment to caring for such a large dog, you wont regret it. The love and affection that you receive in return will be more than worth it.

What Is A Goldador Dog
These dogs have the typical sturdy and well-proportioned body of a retriever as well as their personality traits.
The Goldador is extremely friendly and affectionate. Theyre also excellent watchdogs as they like to keep an eye on everything going on around them, but theyre far more likely to greet any strangers with a tail wag and a kiss than any aggression.
Despite their large size, Goldadors are among the best family dogs because of their easy-going personalities.
Some Of The History Behind The Golden Labrador
It is already more than ten years since the Golden Labrador had first appear, as a successful result for the expectation to create a good, tolerant working dog by crossing the Golden Retriever with the Labrador Retriever, breeds widely used by professional dog training organizations for guidance and assistance purposes. Unlike Labradoodles, a breed of dogs more popular as companions, the Golden Labradors are yet to reach that popularity, also maybe because there are still no efforts to standardize the Golden Labrador cross-breed.

Golden retriever lab mixes are loyal, playful, affectionate, sociable, and get along well with children and other pets. These dogs are intelligent and love nothing more than pleasing their owners, which makes them easy to train.
Goldadors are energetic dogs that are best suited to owners that lead active lifestyles and have time to play with the dogs throughout the day. While gentle, goldadors can be mouthy and love to retrieve items around the house, so theyll need plenty of chew toys and training from an early age to curb this behavior.
Grooming Your Labrador Crossed With Golden Retriever
The Golden Lab Retriever Mix has a double-coat so it should be groomed regularly, especially during their shedding season.
The hybrid dog sheds moderately, so you dont have to worry about it taking much of your time. You might need to brush them once or twice a week if they inherited the short coat of a Lab. However, if they got some of that long, waxy Golden Retriever fur, brushing them 3-4 times a week throughout the year is recommended.
During their shedding season, daily brushing must be done regardless of the hair length. You dont have to worry about regular trimming as their hair wont grow as long or be feathered like their Golden Retriever parent.
When it comes to bathing, your Golden Lab Mix should only be given a bath when needed, such as when its coat becomes too soiled or when hes going to spend a heavy activity on a hot summer day. You can also try to do a swimming activity since this hybrid dog loves to a swim a lot.
More attention should be given to the ears when grooming because the Golden Lab Mix is much more prone to suffer from ear infections than other dogs. Their ears should be cleaned regularly and taken care of by a professional groomer.
Long nails should be trimmed to avoid problems concerning tearing or splitting if they are not worn down naturally.

Should You Get A Goldador
One of the great things about Goldadors is they are great dogs for almost anyone. They are great around children, including young children, so even families with toddlers can adopt one of these dogs. Still, though, bear in mind that small children should always be supervised with dogs, no matter how familiar they are.
These crossbreeds are also intelligent, trainable, and easy to please, so even first-time owners can manage a Goldador. Their naturally friendly nature also means that, as long as they are in a loving environment, they will be a personable and friendly dog. With this breed, you are incredibly unlikely to end up with an uncontrollable or aggressive dog on your hands.
But what are the other things to consider? Ask yourself the following questions before bringing home a Goldador.
The Origins Of The Golden Retriever Lab Mix
There are no specific records of the origins of the Golden Retriever Labrador, but we do know that these dogs have been mixed, at least informally, for a long time.
As two working breeds, game wardens and field sportsmen have mixed the two working dogs for generations.
What we do know is that there has been a deliberate breeding program for a number of years, at least among service dogs.
The Golden Retriever Lab Mix is a popular cross between these two amazing breeds, not only among pet owners, but also among guide dog societies.
Fun fact: Guide dogs for the blind state that they are the most successful guide dog of all! The praise cant be much higher.
Is It Easy To Train A Goldador
Black Lab Golden Retriever Mix. Mamba at 7 months old.
Like its parents, the Goldador is highly trainable. With a perfect mix of high intelligence, incredible loyalty to his owner, and an eagerness to please, the Goldador makes an easy dog to train. This is often why they are considered service and therapy dogs.
Still, just like its Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever parents, a lot of hard work would be required to get a perfectly trained Goldador pooch.
One of the best and basically the most effective way to get a perfectly trained Goldador would be through positive reinforcement. This would involve setting some basic rules for your Goldador, being consistent with enforcing these rules, and then rewarding your Goldador with its favorite treat as an appraisal for good behavior.
Thinking of what kind of treats to reward your Goldador? Well, it most likely would respond to edible treats, but object rewards like a chew toy or tennis ball could prove to be very effective. Try as much as possible to not shout at your Goldador as it is quite sensitive and doesnt respond well to those. However, opting to ignore or correct its manners in a subtle but firm way does the trick.
In addition to training your Goldador, I also recommend you properly socialize them. Yes I know, we stated that the Goldador has a nice and sweet temperament, especially around visitors and other strangers, but as we also established, they do get anxious pretty quick leading to them barking for no reason.
