Adopt A Golden Atlanta

Golden Retriever Rescue 6/27/16

Adopt a Golden Atlanta is a volunteer, non-profit organization focused on finding warm, caring forever homes for Golden Retrievers to prevent them from becoming strays or leading to shelter overcrowding.

Regardless of medical needs or age, Golden Retrievers will receive a thorough examination, spay/neutering services, veterinary care, behavioral training if necessary, and safe transit into a permanent loving home.

Whenever a non-golden is best friends with a golden who is surrendered to them, the non-golden will not be left behind and will be put alongside the golden to live together in their new home.

Our Miniature Golden Retrievers Are Not Your Average Mini Golden

Our Miniature Golden Retrievers are a specifically chosen blend ofGolden RetrieverandPoodle. We love the science, so we are very selective of all factors big and small, such as:

Our goal has been to not only make thebest-looking dogsbut also thehealthiest. Many years of dedication and our passion for perfection has only made us better, and we will only continue to strive for growth.

What Are The Different Comfort Retriever Sizes

A typical Comfort Retriever® weighs between 30-45 pounds. Occasionally, we have some that weigh more than 45 pounds, or even less than 30 pounds.

Our larger Comfort Retrievers® are generally from a Golden Retriever bred to a Comfort Retriever®. They generally have more Golden Retriever in them, so they are a closer carbon copy than the smaller Comforts. Their parents average weight is 45 pounds or larger.

The smaller Comfort Retrievers® are generally from a breeding of two Comfort Retrievers®. They generally have a little more poodle, so they may have more hypoallergenic and reduced shedding traits. Their parents average weight is typically below 40 pounds.

Are Comfort Retrievers Low Shedders

Our Comfort Retrievers® are reduced shed, especially when compared to Golden Retrievers. Shed levels are individual to the dog, so while we hope that the majority of our dogs are low shedding, there are those who are moderate to heavy shedders.

There are many factors that influence shedding as well. Some of these include season changes, weather, stress, illness, and a puppy transitioning to its adult coat. For these reasons, we cant guarantee your dogs shedding wont change over time.

Extra Ways To Find A Rescue Golden Retriever

If none of the Golden Retriever rescues in or near Georgia have a Golden for you, there are a few other options.

The first option is to check your local animal shelter.

This is a long shot since most Golden Retrievers go fast in these shelters, but if you check early and often, you may get lucky.

Plus, theres always the chance that youll find another dog who steals your heart!

The second option is to get involved with your local Golden Retriever Facebook groups.

People who have to rehome their dog will often post there and try to find a new home for their pup themselves, instead of going through a rescue organization.

If youre there at the right time, you may find a Golden who needs your home.

Just be sure to watch out for scammers!

The final option is to get involved with your local Golden Retriever club.

The members might have inside knowledge on a Golden who needs a loving home.

This is another long shot, but Ive found that the more Golden Retriever lovers you know, the more likely you are to find a Golden.

And speaking of local Golden Retriever Clubs

How Do I Pick A Good Rescue Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are great pets, which means you wont find it difficult to interact with one. Still, if youre getting one from a shelter or rescue, you may want to pick the best among the rest.

If you would pick one from a shelter or rescue, it can be a little bit different from what youd expect from a breeder. Thus, you may want to do the following in choosing a good Golden Retriever.

How Much Does It Cost To Adopt A Golden Retriever In Georgia

If you plan on adopting a Golden Retriever in Georgia, youre saving a lot as you help homeless dogs and shelters.

On average, a purebred Golden Retriever can cost from $500 to $3,000 if youd get it from a breeder.

However, if you would get one and adopt a Golden Retriever from a Rescue or Shelter, it would only cost around $50 to $300.

Of course, youll need to spend on other expenses like food and other items such as grooming tools and toys.

Still, its a much cheaper or affordable way to enjoy the company of a Golden Retriever. Moreover, youll do something right since you will provide a home for a dog in need. Thus, it will do good for both you and your pet.

How To Adopt A Golden From Aga

GRRA Trudi and Puppies

The process for adopting one of our Golden Retriever starts with completing an application and submitting a non-refundable $25 application fee. We have a flat fee for adoptions as follows:

All pups under one year old$1,000

All other dogs, regardless of age$600

Seniors 70+ who adopt dogs 9+ years old

Fee Waived

*Higher price helps pay for the transport costs to America from Turkey

See application for specifics. Adoption fees go to help offset the medical costs we incur for our dogs. All dogs are given a full set of vaccines, treated for infections and allergies if needed and adult dogs are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. Serious medical problems are also treated. Fees also are used for behavioral training and boarding facilities.

Our application asks questions regarding your history with dogs, your lifestyle, and what you are looking for in a Golden Retriever. Once your payment and application have been received, it will be reviewed, and references will be contacted. You will be called for a phone interview and a home visit by one of our volunteers. ALL family members must be present for the home visit.

The decision to place one of our Goldens into an adoptive home is not one that we take lightly. We reserve the right to deny any application and may not disclose the reason for denial. We do not operate on a first-come first-served basis, as it is our goal to find the absolute best fit for both our dog and the adoptive family.

Touch The Dog With Caution

Golden Retriever Rescue Atlanta

Shelter or rescue dogs are usually under stress. Thus, you always need to be cautious when touching it. You may also see how it reacts when you touch it.

A Golden Retriever likes getting touched or petted. Thus, if you cautiously touch it and begs for more, it can be a good sign for you.

Other things you can note would be tail-wagging and endless sniffing and licking.

Let The Dog Interact With Other Dogs Or Animals

It may or may not be possible, but you may ask to observe how the dog interacts with other animals. It will also be necessary if you have other pets at home.

Golden Retrievers play and interact well with other pets. Thus, if you have a pet at home, it would be great to take it to the shelter and allow it to play with the dog.

This way, youll introduce both pets to each other and see if theyre going to be alright.

AN UPDATE ON OUR SPECIAL GIRL PARKER

Its been a busy several weeks for Parker. She has been a regular at the vets office getting weighed, treated for a heavy load of intestinal parasites, treated for the bacterial skin infection, and having medicated baths to promote healing so her coat will start growing back. This picture of Parker speaks for itself! She is looking and feeling so much better, and it was made possible by YOU, her heroes, who came to her rescue. Heres an update from her foster mom.

Drumroll, please!! Parker has gained SIX – 6 – POUNDS since last Wednesday!! As Dr. Blount said, “you’re starting to look like a real dog!!” Last Wednesday, she had lost a pound from her starting weight, to 39#. Today she weighed slightly over 45#. Dr. Blount wants her to gain about 10 more pounds before we reexamine her treatment plan and plan the next steps: her spay surgery and heartworm treatment. He also noticed that she was getting “peach fuzz” on her neck and chest where they’ve been massaging in the mousse treatment when she gets her medicated baths. It’s obvious that the hair that was missing down her spine is growing back in as well.

She also popped in the groomer’s room to show her how good she looked and Chrissy was thrilled. No more ribs sticking out.

This was her when we got back home.

HEARTFELT GRATITUDE TO OUR AMAZING FRIENDS!

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters – results.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

Adopt a Golden Atlanta is a volunteer, 501 nonprofit organization based in Atlanta, Georgia, and dedicated to finding warm, loving permanent homes for Golden Retrievers in order to prevent them from becoming strays or adding to the shelter overpopulation. We anticipate our 2014 financial needs to be $550,000 – $600,000. 2013 expenses were $563,277.Our financial goal for 2014 is to raise a minimum of $500,000 from donations, foundation, and individual donors.AGA relies solely on donations. We also meet the requirements for corporate matching, employee giving and volunteer grant programs.

What are the organization’s key strategies for making this happen?

In an effort to further diversify our funding, we are pursuing a fundraising strategy that includes corporate sponsorships, on-line campaigns like GA Gives Day and the Amazon Associates Program, fundraising events like our Golden Gala, Golden Open, and Goldenrama, applications for animal rescue grants, and donations from generous family foundations and individuals both nationally and in the metro Atlanta area.

What are the organization’s capabilities for doing this?
