Does Your Retriever Need Us

Golden Retriever rescued from China find forever homes in South Florida

We are dedicated to saving dogs in need so if you must give up your retriever we are here to help. We know this is heartbreaking but putting your pets welfare first sometimes means making the hard decision to give them up. Please do not take your retriever to a shelter or advertise them on Craigs List the potential home your dog may end up in is totally unpredictable should you take that action. We have a multiple step screening process for adoptive homes to ensure your dog gets a good home.

The steps to turn your retriever over to GRRMF are:

  • Fill out the Surrender Form so we learn more information about your dog. This information assists us in placing your dog in a foster home and ultimately their adoptive home.
  • Send us one or more pictures of your pet to so we can verify your dog is a retriever or a retriever mix. Please put your dogs name in the subject line and your full name in the body of the email.
  • A member of our Intake Team will contact you as soon as possible to discuss arrangements for admitting your dog into our program.
  • If we bring your dog into our program, we ask that you bring copies of any veterinary records, other related paperwork, or medicines they are taking at the time you release the dog into our care. You will be asked to sign a release form turning ownership over to us at that time.

Golden Retriever Rescue Florida: Emerald Coast Golden Retriever Rescue

If you are searching for a Golden Retriever Rescue in Florida, visit Emerald Coast Golden Retriever Rescue. This is a volunteer-run organization located on Floridas Gulf coast. Their main goal is to find a good home for each Golden who has been abandoned, neglected or abused, or just given up on. This rescue is located in Panama City, Fl. As with other rescues, you can not only help by adopting one of their dogs but also volunteer and/ or foster a dog. Foster homes, true backbones of any rescue, are always required to host new dogs. As a foster owner, you would offer your home for a dog for possibly several weeks until it finds a permanent home.

You could also volunteer by helping with dog transportation which will include taking the dog to and from the vet, pick up surrender animals or bring the dog to the new owner.

Another area you could help with would be home inspections. You could also help in various administrative tasks, social media, fundraising, work with the public and many other avenues. These are all great ways to get involved with the breed before or alongside with actually adapting your Golden.

If you are interested in adopting from or volunteering in this Rescue, visit their website.

The Story From The Dogs Side

OUR DOGS: So where does your new pup come from? The number one source for our dogs is owner turn-ins. The top reasons people turn dogs in are because a family is moving, experiencing financial distress, have no time for the dog, or owner health issues. Our second source is dogs from shelters. Lastly, we are called on directly at times to take in strays. On some occasions, we receive calls from contacts outside of Florida needing assistance with re-homing dogs from other shelters or rescue situations.

VETERINARY REQUIREMENTS: The first stop for your prospective new family member is to one of our vets. The dogs are checked out, nose to tail, and any problems noted. They are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, and vaccinated. As the microchip registry will list GRRMF, it means you have an ally in locating a lost dog if that should happen. Any known physical problems will be dealt with and any continuing health issues will be disclosed to you prior to you making a decision on adopting.

So What Happens After You Give Your Dog To Grrmf

    • Initially all incoming dogs go to our veterinarians office for a full exam. After finishing their veterinary workup, our dogs are immediately placed in a private foster home with a loving family that will care for him/her while an adoption is being arranged. We do not keep our dogs in kennels. We do not allow surrendering owners to foster their dogs until adoption because we need to assess their temperament and health prior to adoption.
    • GRRMF will take care of your dog until it is adopted no matter how long it takes to find a suitable home. We do not euthanize dogs unless there is a severe health issue and our veterinarian advises us to do so in order to provide humane treatment for our dog. No dog is ever euthanized because it is taking too long to find them a new home.
    • Our confidentiality policy requires that we keep the identity of the new home private. We can, however, provide you information about how your dog is doing upon request.

Our program is made possible through adoption fees and donations. Adoption fees do not cover nearly all our costs for each dog. We realize that most families giving up dogs are not in a position to make a donation to help, so we do not require any donation when you surrender a dog to us. If you are in a financial position that allows you to make a donation that is a generous gesture. All donations are tax deductible.

Thank you for trusting us to take care of your beloved pet. If you have any questions, please contact us at .

    Foster

How about sharing your love and home with a Golden in need? Fostering a Golden from a few days to a few weeks and helping them through a transitional phase is an incredibly rewarding feeling because youre the first step towards their new life. Watching a wonderful Golden go from frightened and confused to feeling safe and cared for is so gratifying. Then watching them go to a forever home with people who will love and keep them safe is life changing. Many times our fosters are truly life savers. Dogs surrendered to Miami Dade Animal Shelter only have 24 hours to live. So we must run to the shelter and get the dog out. Often the issue is…where can the dog go? If we have fosters available….we know we can save them. Fostering is probably the most important job in the Rescue. Ready to help? Complete the application, indicating your desire to FOSTER
