English Cream Golden Retrievers Are Not From England
No, most English Cream goldens youll find in America are not from England.
Just like French fries are not from France.
All golden retrievers originated from Scotland in the mid-1800s when Lord Tweedmouth bred a Tweed water spaniel and a yellow wavy-coated retriever.
Most American breeders of these goldens either breed dogs from here in the States or import their dogs from all over the world, including:

So how did English Cream goldens get their misleading name?
According to Bev Brown, the Kennel Club and the Golden Retriever Club, were the first ones to write up the breed standard.
And in the early 1900s, all dog shows in Britain were held in England.
So in America, we called the champions of those dog shows, English Champions.
The English seems to have stuck with goldens that look like the English champions in those days, so 100 years later were calling them English Cream Golden Retrievers.

According to canine psychologist, Dr. Stanley Coren, and his book, The Intelligence of Dogs, golden retrievers are the fourth smartest breed, behind Border Collies , Poodles , and German Shepherds .

The Blooming Popularity Of The Golden Retriever
The same, unfortunately, cant be said for Guisachan. The Golden Retrievers ancestral home changed hands many times over the ensuing decades, with much of its 20,000 acres eventually partitioned and sold off. The great house itself became an albatross, and in 1939, the roof was removed in order to lower the tax bill. A tangle of trees and underbrush began to grow where there were once drawing rooms and wine cellars.
In 2018, Friends of Guisachan , a non-profit group created to share information about the breeds birthplace, erected a life-size bronze state of a Golden Retriever in the Scottish village of Tomich, along the road to Guisachan. That same year, the group paid to clear the trees from the ruins, and began a campaign to stabilize what remains of the structure.
With its crumbling masonry and gaping window frames, Guisachan is a reminder that the monuments we humans build to the times in which we live often do not outlast us. Dogs, however, are somewhat more resilient. Like those wildflowers for which the first trio of Golden Retrievers were named, they can settle and thrive in unlikely places. And as their popularity blooms, they brighten their new landscapes, always carrying with them a whiff of the people and places that brought them into being.

Early Retriever Coats And Colors
In the early days retrievers were mostly black. Modern coat colors in retrievers often include a rich chocolate brown and various shades of gold or yellow.
But the browns and yellows are created by recessive genes and the default for our original retrievers was the dominant and at the time most popular, color black.
Retrievers were often simply classified by coat type so we had curly coated, wavy coated, and flat coated retrievers.

Are English Cream Golden Retrievers Rare
They arent rare because an English Cream Golden Retriever can give birth to an average of 8 puppies in a litter.
Most people ask this because some breeders advertise that they have rare White Golden Retriever puppies for sale. This should be considered a scam because they arent actually white, but just lightly golden in color.
Words like platinum or white are marketing terms used to trick buyers into paying more. These terminologies are also frowned upon by the AKC and KC as any Golden Retriever color thats too light or dark is considered a fault.
What makes English Golden Retrievers expensive is their bloodline, so you can expect to pay a price of $1,000 to $3,000 for a puppy.

There Are Three Types Of Golden Retrievers
While you might think all Golden Retrievers look very similar, the breed actually has three different colors — golden, light golden, and dark golden — as well as three different types — English, Canadian, and American. There are subtle differences between the types of Goldens, but they all fall under the same breed.
How do you know what type of Golden Retriever you’ve got? Check their build and coloring. Canadian and American Golden Retrievers tend to have the same build however, Canadians have a thinner coat than the Americans. English Golden Retrievers have a stockier build than the other types, and also tend to have a light golden to white color. To get an idea of what color coat your Golden Retriever puppy will have when it matures, take a look at its ears.
