Are Golden Retrievers Expensive To Maintain

Cindy2

Golden retrievers can be relatively expensive to maintain, mostly because they are large dogs and, therefore, generally need to eat a fair amount.

They can also have steep medical bills when they get older as they are prone to a few medical conditions, such as joint issues and cataracts. You should probably expect to spend at least $1,000 a year maintaining a golden retriever.

Can Golden Retrievers Be Left Alone

Golden retrievers are very social dogs and they donât like to be left alone for long periods of time.

They are also highly intelligent, which means they are smart enough to get into trouble if you leave them with nothing to do for hours on end.

Every golden is different, but as a general rule, they should only be left alone for a maximum of eight hours at a time.

What We Aim To Solve

As the years have progressed the number of purebred Golden Retrievers available for adoption has steadily dwindled. This has also been true of other breeds as well. While this has occurred primarily in the United States the desire to own these breeds has not stopped creating a problem of supply and demand. While we are struggling with this issue, other areas in the world have a surplus of Goldens living in unfortunate circumstances. Since we already have our own kennel and the ability to held these animals we have broadened our program to offer aid to those areas and when possible bring the animals to our facility for care and placement.

  • They get along with other dogs, so they fit in well in homes that already have pets.
  • They bond with children quickly and form mild protective instincts plus, they are very aware of their own size and strength and know how to be gentle with children.
  • They are very intelligent, which means they are easy to train, and are able to figure out what is required of them in new situations with minimal guidance.
  • They are eager to please and motivated by reward, which again, makes them very easy to train.

But there are also some challenges to be aware of before adopting a golden retriever:

What Are The Things To Consider When Adopting A Golden Retriever From A Rescue

When you are adopting a golden retriever from a rescue, you may be taking on a dog that has already been abandoned or inadequately cared for once.

    • Second, many people adopt a gorgeous little pup, only to realize that they grow into a big, shedding dog that requires lots of care and attention. They decide that they simply donât want them anymore.
    • Many loving pet owners need to give up their pets due to a family member who has allergies, moving to a place that doesnât allow animals, moving abroad, or other unavoidable circumstances.
    • Sadly, there are also people who die and leave their pets behind with no-one to care for them, or they simply abandon them.

These are the golden retrievers that find themselves in rescue centers, waiting for new homes.

Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue Aids Dogs From Turkey

HUDSON Golden retrievers may be one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States, but that is not the case in Turkey, where there are more than 2000 golden retrievers that have been left at shelters or abandoned in the woods or streets.

Fortunately for the family pet favorite, Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue is partnering with golden retriever rescue agencies in Georgia, New York and New Jersey to find, care for and transport the homeless dogs to the United States where they are being adopted.

Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue was named the recipient of the 2015 Vanderpump Purebred Rescue of the Year Award at the Pro Plan Showdog Awards held earlier this month in New York City, an especially distinct honor as this is the first year the award has been presented.

The dogs, which are not native to Turkey, became a status symbol about 10 years ago in the country and given as wedding and birthday gifts, but were later abandoned as they became more commonplace.

Allyson MacKenna, executive director for YGRR, said that goldens do not do well on the streets, largely because of their sweet and gentle personality, and that their lifespan on the streets is typically less than one year.

We specialize in goldens with special needs and older dogs, MacKenna said. But these dogs tend to be younger.

MacKenna said that YGRR decided to help with the international rescue of the dogs because golden retrievers are the dogs that they know and love.
