The Golden Retriever originated in Scotland, at the end of the 18th Century.
In 1868, Lord Tweedmouth, a British Aristocrat, wanted a loyal and hard-working gundog to retrieve waterfowl while hunting on his estate in Scotland. So he crossed a wavy-coated yellow retriever with a Tweed Water Spaniel and produced 3 Golden-coloured Retriever puppies.
Fact: the Tweed Water Spaniel is now an extinct dog breed.
Lord Tweedmouth mixed this new breed Retriever with an Irish Setter dog to breed the recognized Golden Retriever dog breed.
In 1903, the Golden Retriever dog breed was registered by the UK Kennel Club, and they quickly became popular as family pets and show dogs.
The Golden Retriever breed was registered by the American Kennel Club in 1925 and now ranks as the 3rd most popular dog breed in the United States.

What Does A Golden Retriever Lab Mix Look Like
There is no telling whether a Goldador will take more after their Labrador retriever or golden retriever parent. However, it is more likely that they will have the squarer face of a Lab rather than the slightly longer face of a Golden.
Goldadors also tend to have lean and athletic yet sturdy bodies. Floppy ears and brown eyes are also consistent characteristics.
You can generally expect a Goldador to be golden in color, as the breed is usually achieved by mixing a golden retriever with a yellow Lab.
The Golden Weiner Dogs Personality

Their excessive shedding can also exacerbate asthma. While regular brushing can help manage this, they are best avoided for children with asthma or anyone with very severe asthma.
Feeding A Golden Lab Mix
The ideal diet for a Labrador and golden retriever mix is one that contains lots of proteins, fat, wholesome carbs, and essential vitamins and minerals. You should find high-quality food for large breed dogs and feed your mix two evenly-spaced meals per day and avoid free-feeding.

What Does A Black Lab Golden Retriever Mix Look Like
A Goldador with a black Lab parent will usually have a black coat. But, in some instances, puppies may have lighter, or golden coats. Other than their coat color, their traits will vary as much as any other Goldador dog. It will depend which parent they take after the most.
Generally, you will have a medium to large dog. Typically, a Goldador will grow between 21.5 and 24.5 inches tall. They usually weigh between 55 and 80 pounds as adults. Females are often smaller than males. But, to get a better idea of your puppys potential adult size, just take a closer look at their exact parents.
In terms of coat type, this mix will have a double layered coat that sheds all year round, and more heavily during shedding seasons. Their coat may be slightly longer if they take after their Golden Retriever parent, with some feathering around their legs and chest.
Are Black Lab Golden Retriever Mixes Good Family Pets
Most families get on well with a black Lab Golden Retriever mix. But, many dont realise quite how much work these dogs take. Theyre friendly, playful, and very social. But, this amazing temperament wont suit all lifestyles.
