But the biggest difference between these two types is that cream color is allowed in the British standard, while the American standard finds extremely pale or dark colors undesirable.
What Is Merle Goldendoodle

As we already know, all Goldendoodles are gotten or obtained from breeding a Golden Retriever with a poodle. Merle Goldendoodles are no exception. They are obtained from breeding a Golden Retriever with a merle poodle.
Merle in this case doesnt refer to a different coat color, but rather the coat speckling pattern or mottling pattern. It comes from the dog having a merle gene which causes the dogs coat to develop a pattern similar to marbles.
This merle gene is said to be semi-dominant, so what this means is that it takes just one Goldendoodle parent to have its gene and pass it down to the puppy. 10 out of 10 times, this gene is gotten from the Poodle parent of the Goldendoodle.
Even with poodles, the merle coat isnt considered a standard color coat for them, they usually get this from breeding a poodle with another dog with a merle coat like the welsh corgi or the Australian cattle dog. So in essence, it is possible to spot the DNA of other dog breeds in Goldendoodles with merle coat genes.
Merle Goldendoodles can come in a variety of coat colors like the blue merle , the red merle, the black, or the chocolate merle. And these dogs are usually obtained from multigenerational breeding or multi-gen doodles.
Golden Retriever Hair Growth Stages
As mentioned earlier, a Golden Retriever puppy starts growing adult hair at approximately three months old. However, this growth is subtle and may not be noticeable until he is closer to one year old. Your Golden Retriever can be considered to have a fully grown coat when he is two years of age.
Long adult hair starts growing first at the tail. This feathering process thenproceeds to the legs and stomach. With time, the entire body gets the adult coat, which tends to be darker than the former puppy fur.
Feathered fur is usually light and soft and is useful for temperature regulation it thickens during the cold season and thins during warmer months.
Interestingly, Golden puppies do not shed their puppy fur. Instead, once new hair starts growing, the puppy fur gets nudged aside by the newer and longer outer coat.
This means that Golden Retrievers possess double coats the puppy hair transforms into the Goldens undercoat, forming a second layer to the fur. Eventually, the undercoat grows thicker as the longer outer coat begins to cover it.
This transition takes almost 18 months, though, for most Retrievers, the full coat grows once the dog is more than a year old.
How thick your Goldens coat becomes depends on the surrounding environment. If he spends considerable time outdoors, he is bound to get a much thicker coat than if he were to stay indoors. Therefore, the dogs body regulates the amount of coat he needs as per the prevailing temperatures.

Our larger Comfort Retrievers® are generally from a Golden Retriever bred to a Comfort Retriever®. They generally have more Golden Retriever in them, so they are a closer carbon copy than the smaller Comforts. Their parents average weight is 45 pounds or larger.
The smaller Comfort Retrievers® are generally from a breeding of two Comfort Retrievers®. They generally have a little more poodle, so they may have more hypoallergenic and reduced shedding traits. Their parents average weight is typically below 40 pounds.

Three things to note about the Golden Retriever: shedding, shedding, and more shedding. There are certain times of the year when your pet’s hair will shed more often than usual during the summer and winter, their coat sheds moderately, whereas, during spring and fall, they shed significantly. Although their luscious hair is very shiny and beautiful, it takes work! It is recommended that Golden Retrievers are brushed roughly 30 minutes a week, or ideally once a day, to maintain that glorious shine and prevent matting. Daily brushing will help with excessive shedding, but owners should still expect to find pet hair all over any and everything in their homes.
When preparing to give your pet their first bath, make sure you choose a shampoo that will not only keep their hair smooth and shiny but will also protect the skin underneath. Assuming your pet does not have any skin conditions, your dog will do well with a shampoo containing oatmeal, and Vitamin E. Bathing helps with shedding, especially if done every month – make sure to wait until your pet’s hair is completely dry before you begin brushing to prevent irritating your puppy’s skin.
