Difference Between Puppy Nipping & Adult Biting
Everything covered up to this point was specifically for puppy biting.
All puppies naturally bite, but if your adult dog is biting, youll want to speak with a professional, especially if its not play biting.
Most adult golden retrievers bite out of fear and a professional can help you properly handle it.
Stage 2: Decrease Frequency
Next, we need to focus on decreasing frequency of biting.
Using a food lure works well for this exercise.
Start the session by saying a phrase such as okay, lets play. Then, while the pup is mouthing you, say stop biting and distract the puppy with a piece of food. Once the pup lets go, reward the pup with ample praise for stoping when asked.;
If the pup doesnt let go of your hand, then yelp and squeal ouch, and leave the room for a few minutes and close the door in the pups face.;
Allow a few minutes for the pup to cool down, return, ask for a sit and begin again. However, you may need to stop the game for another timeout if your puppy doesnt want to stop mouthing on repeated occasions.;
With consistent repetitions your puppy should quickly learn to let go of your hand when asked.
When you want the play/training session to stop, you say plays over and give the puppy a chew toya chew bone or Kong toy with kibble inside are great chewing distractions for a puppy.;

No Mouth on Skin
At 5 months of age, your puppy should no longer be biting with pressure, and it should stop immediately when asked to do so, including no longer making contact with skin or clothing unless invited.
Bitter Taste Method: To Stop Golden Retriever From Biting
As the name of the method suggests, this method disturbs the taste buds of your pet. Thus, it will stop your Golden Retriever from biting. And the method includes the following steps:
- Observe and note the situations where the Golden Retriever often bites you.
- Create a similar scenario and prepare yourself with a bitter spray.
- When you feel like your pet is about to bite, spray the bitter fluid in your hand.
- Make a loud sound commanding your pet to stop biting.
- Repeat the process until your Golden Retriever stops biting.

Pup’s freedom needs to be managed so that pup potties outside. After going potty outside several times due to how you have managed pup’s freedom and schedule, pup will start to learn how to go potty outside more quickly, especially if you teach the “Go Potty” command, which the Crate Training and Tethering methods will include.The Crate Training method utilizes a dog’s natural desire to keep a confined space clean, so that the only time pup has freedom when their bladder isn’t empty is while outside, to get pup to go potty outside because there are no other options. Let Out A Loud Yelp And Walk Away
When your puppy bites you, you need to let your puppy know that his bite hurts. This is part of teaching your puppy bite inhibition. Letting out a loud yelp will startle your puppy. This is a way to mimic how puppies play together, when one puppy bites another puppy too hard, that puppy yelps in pain, and will walk away.
Most puppies will stop after being startled by the loud yelp, but it could also backfire. In some cases, puppies could get even more worked up by the noise and keep on biting. This is when you need to walk away.
When your puppy has calmed down, you can resume playing with your puppy. When your puppy bites you again, repeat the steps of yelping and walking away. Eventually, your puppy will learn to soften his bite, because biting too hard ends playtime.

Why Does Bite Inhibition Work To Stop Retriever Puppy Biting

Remember when I said that biting is an essential part of how a puppy grows up? When their siblings yelp, their first reaction is not to stop biting but to bite less forcefully.
