What Others Are Saying
“My husband and I looked everywhere for a golden puppy for us and the Millers were a great family and wonderful decision to work with. We drove a total of 15 hours to get our gem and she has been such a delight for us! She is extremely intelligent, very beautiful, and is truly loyal to us. She has given us the joy we have always wanted and exceeded our expectations in every way and we look forward to getting another puppy with them in the future! Thank you again so much!!” – Jake and Melissa
“We adopted Griffey in July of 2017 as an 8-week old fluff ball. The process with Copper and Cream was so easy! After a pleasant conversation with the breeders we were selected to come meet him and take him home. An immediate checkup at the vet confirmed that the breeders properly tended to all of his health and behavioral needs as a newborn, and Griffey has continued his clean bill of health ever since. You can tell that these breeders know exactly what they are doing and how to properly breed their beautiful goldens. I am extremely satisfied overall with the experience and will certainly come to Copper and Cream again when we adopt our next one!” – Ben and Jenn
“Jason and his wife were really easy to work with throughout the whole process of adopting my puppy, Oakley. Oakley is 20 weeks old and loves playing with other dogs. He greets everybody by rolling over onto his back and welcoming a belly rub. Oakley is very well mannered and has been such a joy in my life.” – Adam

Top 14 Best Golden Retriever Breeders In California
When looking for Golden Retriever puppies for sale in California, it is important to keep the quality of the breeder in mind. You want to make sure that the breeders use healthy parents that have undergone testing for genetic health as well as health for eyes, heart, hips, and elbows. Golden Retrievers are prone to cancer, so a knowledgeable breeder is imperative. Consider looking into a breeder who uses English Golden Retrievers in their program. English lines have been shown to have up to a two-year longer lifespan than purely American lines. English Golden Retrievers are often lighter than standard American Goldens.
Another aspect to consider when looking for a Golden Retriever puppy in California is if the parents have any Championship titles. This could be in conformation, obedience, agility, or even hunting. Depending on what you want to accomplish with your puppy, these aspects might be important to you. If you are wanting a purebred Golden Retriever, it is also advisable to get a puppy from an AKC registered breeder.
Now that you know what to look for in a breeder, lets take a look at some of the top Golden Retriever breeders in California!
The Temperament Of The Golden Is Legendary
Goldens, like any dog breed, need socialization to bring out the best in their temperaments. Golden Retrievers as gun dogs should be trustworthy and unflappable. They are also affectionate, intelligent, responsive and obedient, sensitive, good-natured, and patient. The closest anyone has to a complaint about the Golden is its rambunctiousness that can last from early puppyhood to the age of two or three years old.
Although some family lines can show dog aggression, most Goldens are great with other pets. Golden Retrievers are a common sight at dog parks romping with other dogs. Even as large as they are, Goldens commonly befriend cats. Despite their sporting background, Golden Retrievers have a low prey drive compared to many other breeds.
Goldens have an uncanny instinct to be gentle and protective of small children. However, they are large and energetic when they are puppies. Young Golden Retrievers can be hazardous to toddlers and small kids by accidentally knocking young ones down. As your dog matures, it will become more careful.
Like Labs, Goldens do not know a stranger. They may bark to announce the arrival of a guest, but Golden Retrievers warm up to a kind word or friendly pats with a return of affection and enthusiasm.

Golden Retriever Puppies For Sale Temperment
Because of the Golden Retriever’s friendly and outgoing disposition, they are often referred to as the “perfect family dog.” This playful breed has much energy to spare and much love to give. They are eager to please their owners, making them incredibly easy to train. These slobbery pups are particularly mouthy make sure to provide your pet with toys to chew on so that they don’t start nipping at you instead! Like any dog, proper training from an early age is vital in ensuring your pup grows to be a well-behaved, well-rounded adult. Introduce your pet to new people, new pets, and new experiences to accustom them.
This breed’s unwavering loyalty makes them great companions for life. However, if you are looking for a guard dog that will keep watch, you have come to the wrong place. As loyal as these pups are, they are not ones to deter intruders, especially if that intruder has a little snack for them or gives them a nice pat. Even still, these dogs are exceptionally bright and devoted to their families.
While the Golden Retriever is very active and loves to play, they tend to slow down quite a bit as they get older. They will still need to play and get some exercise, but not nearly as much as they once needed. Later in life, your pet will become more docile and calmer, which is perfectly normal.
Nutrition For An Golden Retriever Dog To Purchase
A healthy Golden Retriever lives on average 10-12 years. One of the keys to ensuring your pet lives a long, full life is giving them proper nutrition. Like people, each dog is unique and requires its specific diet. A good starting point, though, is giving your adult dog 3 to 4 cups of high-quality dry food split up into two meals each day. For puppies, you want to start with half a cup at two months old and gradually increase serving sizes each month. Once your pup reaches six months old, you can start serving them 3 cups a day and increase as needed. Typically female dogs require less food than their male counterparts, but only you and your vet know exactly what they need. If you are struggling to find a food your dog responds well to or wondering if they are getting all of the proper nutrients, meet with your vet to get suggestions.
Since Golden Retrievers excel in training, it is likely you may use treats to train or motivate your pet. While this is effective, be sure not to overfeed your dog. Giving your pet too many treats may inadvertently result in unwanted weight gain or even obesity. Golden Retrievers are more prone to obesity than many other dog breeds. If you suspect your pet is becoming overweight, try the hands-on test and the eye test in your own home.

I live on a beautiful acre of land in Weatherford, Texas with 7 Goldens! To say that Im a dog lover, well, thats an understatement. This all started with my first golden, Cooper, back in 2011. I have 2 studs Collins and Jesse that are active. My females are Chloe Callie, and Sadie. I have a forever puppy from Callie that came home due to Liver shunt disease named Hudson. I added my newest golden, Annie, from Callies 2021 Litter. I enjoy my puppies and the joy that they bring my home, even the constant cleaning of dog hair! I now want to share what I enjoy with other golden lovers.

In the games we play with our special family members, TJ earned titles in three field venues. In 2018-2019, she earned QA2, with one placing to spare, by receiving one first and two seconds in Field Trial Qualifying.
In 2020-2021, we entered hunt tests. On consecutive weekends in June 2021, she completed AKC Master Hunter and HRC Hunting Retriever Champion titles.
Our original intent in selecting TJ was to acquire another hunting partner and full time companion with high level intelligence and drive. Her multiple marking talent showed early, and we started training to develop her impressive abilities. But we live and farm in a very rural area with no like-minded people near us for a training group. So almost all training was done by the two of us and two remote release bird/dummy launchers. The lack of a training group had limitations on showing TJ the sights, sounds, and smells of real performance events. It took some patience and persistence and TJ earned all titles with almost never seeing more than one live person in the field for training.
Physical Appearance Of Golden Retriever For Sale
Under its kind eyes and beautiful coat, the Golden Retriever is an athlete. Its body should be compact, balanced, and powerful, only slightly longer than tall. The limbs are sturdy and strong, neither too long nor too short. You should be able to identify a Golden by its head alone. The skull is broad between the ears with wideset dark eyes and a distinct stop. Unlike some other breeds with a broad head, Golden Retrievers do not have prominent cheekbones. The ears are fairly small and lay flat against the head. Goldens have a level back, a slightly slanted croup, strong shoulders and rear, and a deep and broad chest. The tail is set neither high nor low but reflects the dogs jolly mood. A tail that curls over the back are incorrect.

About The Mini Golden Retriever
A miniature Golden Retriever is not the result of selecting all the runts in multiple litters to breed. The mini Golden Retriever is the result of a cross between Cocker Spaniels and Golden Retrievers to produce a dog that will be 20 to 24 inches tall and weigh 20 to 50 pounds. Sometimes breeders add the miniature Poodle to the cross and others use Poodles exclusively. The result is a hybrid that often has a finer coat than a purebred Golden and may have other personality quirks.
Exercising An Golden Retriever Dog To Buy
Just as water and food are vital parts of every dog’s day-to-day life, exercise is just as important to the Golden Retriever. However, the amount of exercise your pet needs varies depending on their age puppies do not need nearly as much as adults. A good rule of thumb to follow is the “5-minute rule.” The rule states that your puppy has been alive for every month, they need no more than 5 minutes per month. So if your puppy is only four months old, they need no more than 20 minutes of exercise per day. When they are in their puppy stage, they can get their exercise from brisk walks or a few games of fetch.
In general, adult Golden Retrievers need at least one good hour of exercise per day. No two dogs are the same you may find that your dog can only handle 45 minutes of exercise, whereas another dog may need up to 2 hours of exercise every day. As your pet grows and you learn more about them, you will find out what works for them and what does not. If you are tired of playing fetch and going on brisk walks, try introducing a new exercise method for your dog. Some suggestions are hikes, swimming, or running.
