Retrieve A Golden Of Minnesota Celebrates 30 Years

A local nonprofit is celebrating 30 years of success in realizing its vision of giving displaced dogs a better life. Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota , an all-volunteer organization based in Minnetonka, rescues displaced, abused, neglected and unwanted golden retrievers and golden retriever mixes, and locates permanent homes for them.

The story starts in 1985, with just one dog, a homeless golden retriever whose time was up at a shelter. RAGOM founders Hank and Jane Nygaard took the dog in, got her spayed and vaccinated, and found her a new home. After the first golden, there always seemed to be another, then another, that needed help in finding a forever family. So, by chance and by need, Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota was born, says Stephanie Perri, RAGOM manager of marketing and communications. From that one opportunity to give a beautiful dog a golden life, she says, we have built an organization that, in 30 years, has seen thousands of people come together to help dogs.

What really sets RAGOM apart, says Perri, is their dedication to ensuring that every dog they take in is supported throughout its entire lifetime. They never turn a dog away due to medical needs, caring for it until it is healthy enough to be adopted. They accept challenging dogs, and dogs from outside their standard adoption territory of Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and parts of western Wisconsin.

Bonus Ways To Find A Rescue Golden

Most Golden Retriever rescues have a waitlist, and some have even stopped accepting new potential owners because their waitlist is too long!

If thats the case with the rescues near you, dont worry there are three other ways to get your new pup.

The first way is to check out your local animal shelters.

This may be a long shot, as any Golden they get will go fast, but it could be worth it.

You might also fall in love with another dog there!

The second way is to get involved with your local Golden Retriever Facebook group.

There are often Golden owners in there who need to give up their dog for some unfortunate reason, and would rather find a new home themselves than go through a rescue group.

This is your opportunity to offer your loving home!

The third way is another long shot, but its to get involved with your local Golden Retriever club.

They might have an inside scoop on whos rehoming Goldens, plus the more Golden lovers you know, the more likely you are to find one of your own.

And speaking of Golden Retriever Clubs

Golden Retriever Rescue Of The Rockies

After evaluation, surrendered Goldens will be taken in and provided with the appropriate veterinary care involving vaccination updates, spaying, or neutering, and a general health evaluation. The dogs then are cared for by Golden Retriever Rescue until they are matched with new families and go to their new homes.

They can also assist families looking to add a Golden. Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies volunteers will help families find the most suitable rescue Golden based on lifestyle needs and environment.

Adoption fees for Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies are as follows:

  • Age 8 years and up $250.00
  • Puppies 8 weeks to 6 months $600.00 – plus spay/neuter deposit of $100.00

Reviews About Retrieve A Golden Of The Midwest

  • Kelly McKennaMarch 8, 2022, 9:56 pmvia GoogleCommentThis rescue is less of a rescue than I have ever encountered. It was a waste of time and energy to adopt a dog. I was out on waitlist after waitlist after waitlist. Every single time, my hopes were up because I was being led to believe that I may have a shot. You dont get updates at all. It you want an update, then you will have to email multiple times to get an answer. All the other reviews are absolutely true. You fill out pages of information, only to be emailed to write an outline of how I show plan to train my future dog. How can I make a plan with an imaginary dog that I dont even know yet? If you want a golden, youre better off scouring local animal shelters or just flat out buying from a breeder. This rescue is a joke.0

Golden Endings Golden Retriever Rescue

Golden Endings Golden Retriever Rescue is a non-profit organization that services central and southeastern Ohio. Their dogs have come from a variety of places such as shelters, veterinarians, animal control, or found on the streets.

When Golden Endings brings a new dog into their rescue, the dog receives medical care as needed. They are spayed or neutered, tested for heartworms, and placed on a preventative program with annual booster vaccinations. The Goldens are assessed for temperament and personality to determine their compatibility with other dogs and children. Some of the dogs then receive obedience training through local correctional facilities.

Golden Endings has some basic guidelines for placing one of their dogs in adoptive homes. The first step in the process is the completion of an adoption application. The Goldens must live indoors and must become a loved member of the family. If it is necessary, Golden Endings encourages the use of a crate to keep the dog in when alone at home. They stay in touch with each Golden Retriever owner after the adoption, including telephone calls or the occasional visit to make sure everything is going well.

Golden Retriever Rescue Details

3. As Good As Gold Golden Retriever Rescue of Illinois

As Good as Gold Golden Retriever Rescue of Illinois is a non-profit, membership-based, volunteer-run organization dedicated to the rescue, care, and adoption of Golden Retrievers and golden mixes who are in need. Since 2003, they have rescued nearly 2,500 dogs. In addition to being a rescue for these dogs, As Good as Gold educates Golden Retriever guardians, owners, and the general public about the importance of spaying/neutering, positive training methods, diet and exercise, appropriate medical treatment, and humane care.

To demonstrate its ongoing commitment to the core values of integrity, honesty, fairness, openness respect, and responsibility, As Good as Gold has adopted a Statement of Values and Code of Ethics to which all board members, staff, and member/volunteers will adhere. These are as follows:

  • Their values support a rewarding experience as a member, volunteer, or partner.
  • Their respect for other ethical rescue groups promotes good working relationships.
  • Their best practices support sustained growth and organizational effectiveness.
  • Their passion enables small miracles for the dogs and the people who love them.

Adoption feed for a golden retriever from As Good as Gold are as follows:

  • Golden Years Program: dogs 8 years old and up- $200

Rescuing An Adult Golden Retriever

Adult golden retriever adoption is an entirely different experience to adopting a puppy. There are several benefits to saving an adult over rescuing a puppy, including:

  • Youll know the dogs adult appearance
  • You may be able to tell whether its a mixed breed or a purebred golden retriever
  • You may be able to identify medical issues and predispositions
  • Youll have a good idea of the dogs adult temperament
  • May already be potty trained and taught basic commands

Of course, while rescuing an adult golden has several benefits, it has a lot of downsides, too. For example, adult rescue dogs have sometimes been through past traumatic experiences, whether through irresponsible previous owners or because theyve been abandoned and living wild. While goldens are usually gentle, happy dogs, they can even have issues like aggression or fear.

Adult Goldens can come with other harmful behaviors, too. If an adult golden retriever wasnt appropriately trained as a puppy, it may have issues with potty training, bad leash etiquette, destructive behaviors, or lack of respect towards humans. While they can be trained out of these behaviors, its much harder to un-train an adult dog than train a puppy in the first place.

Choosing A Golden Retriever Rescue

Your first consideration should be the location. After all, adopting a Golden Retriever from your home state will prove less challenging than adopting a dog on the other side of the country. Once youve selected a couple of Rescue groups to approach, make sure they have reasonable Goldens to match you with. After this, grill the groups for knowledge. Ensure that youre dealing with experts. Refrain from dealing with Rescue groups who lack insight into their dogs. They should be able to tell you when the dogs were last vaccinated and whether or not they are spayed or neutered. When youre comfortable with your chosen Rescue, schedule a meet-and-greet with their dogs. Oh, and more thing, some Golden Rescue leaders grow attached to their dogs and have difficulty parting ways. So make sure that they are as comfortable with you as you are with them.

Golden Retriever Rescue groups and organizations differ in many ways, so gather all information before committing to a Golden Retriever adoption group of any kind. To aid your search, weve compiled a list of the best Golden Retriever Rescues in the United States. All of the Golden Rescues on this page have been prescreened online. We collected Google reviews and Facebook feedback to come up with this list. In the future, well be adding interviews as well.

Best Golden Retriever Rescues

November 21, 2020 by Garrett

Golden Retrievers are some of the most popular purebred dogs in the world. In fact, according to the American Kennel Club , they are the #3 most popular dog in the world. However, since they are such popular dogs, many breeders will breed several Goldens per year to meet the ever-growing demand for puppies. As a result, there are many people who purchase Golden Retrievers without knowing how to care for a dog. In addition, several Golden Retrievers are used by breeders only to create puppies and then retire their dogs to rescues or shelters.

These unfortunate situations lead to the creation of several Golden Retriever rescues around the United States. Typically, these dog rescue organizations will take in any Golden Retriever or Golden Retriever mixed breed. Next, they will help pay for their medical costs and get them back to normal. In addition, Golden Retriever adoption organizations usually put them into a foster organization where they can be looked after until they can get adopted out. Weve found the 7 best Golden Retriever rescues to help you find your next dog.

We will preface this article by saying that Golden Retriever rescue dogs are in high demand for adoption. Its typically difficult to get one of these dogs without a long wait. In addition, most Golden Retriever rescue dogs are not puppies, but typically adult dogs over 2 years of age. We hope that you find your next adoption!
