    Labs Available For Adoption

GGLRR places ~250 Labrador Retrievers each year in the greater SF Bay Area! See Recently Adopted for examples of Labs we have placed. Some Labs are adopted by our pre-screened adopters before they are posted on this website. If you are willing to pay the adoption fee in advance, you may be a good candidate to join our pre-screened adopter program to receive early email notification about GGLRR Labs before they are posted on the website. Explanations of our adoption process and the PSA program are contained on the How to Adopt page. We also provide a listing of Other Labs available for adoption from individuals or shelters.

Many of our dogs are surrendered by owners who very much love their dogs but, for a variety of reasons, cannot keep them and have made the difficult decision to find them a new forever home. We applaud these owners for allowing us the opportunity to find these dogs new homes, and we do our very best not to be judgmental or critical of the choices that these owners make.

This page also lists status of Labs in the process of being adopted in the No More Calls and Adoption Pending sections.

Some of the dogs who land at GGLRR were found as strays or come from bad situations. Young Lab/border collie mix Titus wandered the streets of Madera before being rescued Silicon Valley girl Bailey, a 1-year-old chocolate Lab, was in a stairwell at Intel, but nobody claimed her. Others, especially the seniors, have had long and happy lives with the same people, but a job loss or family tragedy can change everything.

That’s Shiloh’s story. This 8-year-old chocolate Lab is hoping for a new person to love after her owner, who’d had her since she was 8 weeks old, passed away. She’s doing well in her foster home, where she’s practicing her obedience skills she’s currently living with another dog but would probably prefer a human all her own, an arrangement she thrived in most of her life. Plan on sharing an active lifestyle with this energetic girlbut also plan on plenty of snuggling, as she likes nothing better than to curl up on the couch with her person. Sound perfect? 11-year-old Kent was an owner-surrender from Stockton. His owner was divorcing and moving into an apartment and could not take him with her. Theres a reason Labrador retrievers are the most popular dog breed in America. You probably have met many representatives of this gentle, intelligent, family-loving breed, or even or been loved by one. Yet all dogs, even the most undemanding, require an ongoing commitment of time, money, exercise, discipline and affection. And sometimes, life intervenes to make it impossible for people to care for or keep their pets.

Thats where Golden Gate Labrador Retriever Rescue comes in. GGLRR is dedicated to finding homes for Labs in need and matching people with just the right canine companion. Visit the website at www.labrescue.org to read about the adoption process on the How to Adopt page, or see Labs looking for homes and those recently adopted under Labs Available. To get the process rolling, contact a local representative by going the Contact page. Reps are available to talk about the adoption process, introduce you to dogs available for adoption and begin the process of matching an available dog to a forever home.

    Why Should You Adopt

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
