About Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption Of Needy Dogs
Early in 1994, members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club began to see the need for an organization to rehabilitate and find homes for displaced and abused Golden Retrievers. A number of folks in this club began organizing an ad hoc rescue group. As the number of rescues increased over a period of months, this wet behind the ears group came up with a name and in 1996, incorporated the organization now known as Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs . The rest, as they say, is history!
Why Should You Adopt
Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.
What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?
When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Snoring is common in Golden Retrievers, so prepare yourself for loud noises when your pet is asleep. It can even grow louder as they age.
Moderate Training
Golden Retrievers responds well, especially to positive reinforcement. Thus, they dont need too much effort in training.
Squeaky Toys
Out of all toys, your pet will love the squeaky ones. For this reason, prepare for a lot of loud squeaks every time your pet is active.

Rufus is really everything we wanted and more. He is extremely people-oriented, outgoing and affectionate. He is probably the most loving dog out there. He lives for his family and he is the happiest when he is around us, which is really mutual!
Among some of the downsides to owning our Golden Retriever is the amount of dog hair you will have to deal with on a daily basis. It is ridiculous how much vacuuming it takes to make pretty much no difference in the layer of hair on the floor and carpets as well as furniture. Add to that all the effort and time invested in grooming this beast! He requires brushing and cleaning, otherwise, that beautiful coat will mat and get tangled. Often we have to give Rufus a bath especially in the cold time of the year when we get lots of dirt and/or snow outside, otherwise, he will track the elements into the house.
We wanted a dog that would be cautious of strangers but not necessarily an aggressive dog whose guarding instincts wed have to constantly modulate.
