First Generation Backcross Goldendoodles F1b
When a family has moderate to severe allergies, a backcross Goldendoodle is recommended.A backcross puppy is the result of a hybrid bred back to one of its breeds of origin. From a genetic standpoint a backcross pup is a first generation cross. SInce breeders are breeding towards nonshedding and allergy friendliness, a backcross Goldendoodle is generally the product of a Goldendoodle bred to a Poodle. The resulting dog is, 1/4 Golden Retriever and 3/4 Poodle. Although there is less vigour in this crossing than in the original hybrid, the first generation backcross still is close enough in the breeding tree to benefit from hybrid vigour. With each successive generation vigour is lost.
Coat Description: The coat at continues to grow in length although similar in appearance to a first generation Goldendoodle. Coats are both wavy to curly.
Shedding: very light to nonshed
Allergy Friendliness: recommended for families with moderate to severe allergies.We do not breed F2 puppies due to the fact that they can be unpredictable in coats and temperaments.

Both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle are rate within the top 5 of all breeds for intelligence. While this means that your goldendoodle may learn fast, he or she must also be given activities to work their brains. Doodles need interaction with their humans on a regular basis and do not do well left alone in a yard or house for long periods of time.
Please exercise your doodles mind with obedience training and play time. A bored doodle can lead to destructive behavior that can be very frustrating to their humans.

F1bb Vs F1b An F1bb = F1b Goldendoodle X Poodle
The more bs, the more poodle! In this case, an F1b Goldendoodle has been backcrossed again to a purebred Poodle. The result is 88% poodle and 12% Golden Retriever. While this may sound like a lot of Poodle, the result is a predictably curly, low-shedding coat that is great for allergy-sufferers.
As doodle breeders, we have a lot of positive things to say about our poodle parents and the Poodle breed as a whole you can read more about their history and characteristics here. So the doodle crosses with higher percentage of poodle are still fabulous family dogs but may have less obvious characteristics from their other breed.
In the case of an F1bb Goldendoodle the dog will be more similar to a Poodle in regards to coat, physical structure and certain traits but still have a little dash of retriever to keep things interesting!
F3 and multigenerational = various combinations beyond the F2 generation
Some breeders use the term F3, while others denote any cross after the F2 generation as multigenerational.
If you run across the term F3, it can actually mean two different types of combinations. Put simply it means you are now 3 generations removed from the original cross of Golden Retriever to Poodle, so this can look like an F2 Goldendoodle bred to another Goldendoodle.
In this case, most reputable breeders have been careful in selecting their parents and would avoid breeding straight coated, high-shedding parents.

The F1 Goldendoodle
The term hypoallergenic has become quite a hype in the dog breeding world. However, bold statements of dogs being 100 percent hypoallergenic require some skepticism.
Hypoallergenic dogs are often claimed to be less likely to trigger allergic reactions in allergy sufferers. Dog breeds included in this category are often those that tend to shed less. The problem with this theory though is the fact that dog allergies aren’t only caused by dog hairs.
Allergy sufferers tend to have allergic reactions to proteins that are not only found in the dog’s, fur but also in their saliva, urine, hair roots and in the skin flakes that are often sloughed off throughout the day.
On top of this, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology warns that dog hair or fur can also collect pollen, mold spores and other outdoor allergens known for triggering allergies. This means that even hairless dogs like the Mexican hairless dog still have the potential for triggering allergies!
F1 Vs F1b An F1b = F1 Goldendoodle X Poodle
The b in this description stands for back cross. In other words, the original hybrid cross has been bred back to a purebred parent . The result is a puppy that is 75% poodle and 25% Golden Retriever.
These puppies typically have wavy to curly coats and reduced shedding. The F1b generation is a good choice for allergy sufferers or those who simply want less fur to clean up around the house.
It is important to note that while the vast majority of breeders, an F1 Goldendoodle bred back to a Golden Retriever could still technically be called an F1b goldendoodle as the b simply means bred back to a purebred parent.
Most breeders would avoid this type of F1b as the result would be a dog that sheds as much as Golden Retriever, but it is still good to know to avoid potential confusion. Always ask your breeder to verify what breed and generation each of your puppys parents are.

Miniature Golden Retrievers For Sale
Mini Goldens quickly became the love of my canine family as they have everything that full-sized Goldens have to offer only in a smaller size and healthier body. Most of my Mini Retrievers mature from 20 to 30 pounds as full-grown adults.
Our Mini-Golden Retriever Puppies were created using AKC Golden Retrievers and an AKC Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and now our multi-generational puppies also contain a percentage of poodle often reducing shedding. About the Breed
Miniature Golden Retrievers have been designed to provide a smaller healthier version of their predecessor. The topic of generations is commonly surrounded by confusion and many owners are not even sure which generation they actually own or how to crack the code of the various letters and numbers even if they are aware of the denotation.
For purposes of this article, we will use the Goldendoodle as our case study. So we will use the Golden Retriever and Poodle as our purebred parent examples. However, the same formula would apply to any doodle breed.
One would simply substitute the purebred parent associated with the doodle you are interested in: Bernese Mountain Dog for the Bernedoodle, Old English Sheepdog for the Sheepadoodle, etc.

F1 = Golden Retriever X Poodle
The F stands for filial and is simply a way to denote generation. So an F1 Goldendoodle means First Generation Goldendoodle. This is the initial cross, so one parent would be a purebred Golden Retriever and the other a purebred Poodle.
The F1 generation is a good choice for those who are particularly attached to the Golden Retriever as you are close to the roots and will definitely preserve some Golden Retriever traits in both personality and physical appearance.
These dogs typically have loose, wavy coats. The downside of the F1 generation is they tend to still shed someless than a purebred Golden Retriever but more than some of the later generations we discuss below.
How Do We Make A Doodle
The chart below gives you the best graphic of How we create doodles and multi-generational doodles. To make it simple, we are using a Golden Retriever on our chart display as the purebred P dog in the combination. Many poodle combinations exist to give the breeder a specific desired doodle. The ratio in which we combine purebreds to make a generational doodle will most of the time be the same ratio, but in cases of F1bs, we breed back to a Poodle for a more hypoallergenic dog. In F1b doodles, the ration 3/4 Poodle and 1/4 Golden Retriever .

Poodles Have Hair And Not Fur

And what about poodles? Poodles are thought to potentially cause less allergies because they do not shed hair like many other dog breeds do. For example, many dog breeds are equipped with double coats and shed their coats almost constantly throughout the year
Poodles instead have a single coat and the coat is also curly. On top of this, they have hair rather than fur, which means that it keeps growing compared to fur which grows up to the a certain length and then sheds after a resting period.
When a poodle’s hair keeps growing though, it gets tangled and trapped in the surrounding curly hair, and therefore, is more likely to mat rather than shed. This explains why poodles require frequent grooming trips and why they are often clipped down into lower-maintenance cuts.
Although there isnt any scientific evidence to suggest that dog breeds such as poodles are less likely to cause allergic reactions, some allergists have been suggesting that dog breeds that tend to keep their coat throughout the year may be a better option for allergy sufferers.
Before investing in a “hypoallergenic” designer dog with a hefty price tag, it would be therefore best for allergy sufferers to undergo allergy testing so to pinpoint what allergens they are sensitive to and make an informed decision on whether or not a goldendoodle is the right choice.
