How Long Can A Goldendoodle Hold Their Bladder

what dogs can be left alone all day

Goldendoodle puppies can hold their bladder for their age in months plus one. That means that a 2-month-old Goldendoodle puppy can hold their bladder for about 3 hours, while a 6-month-old puppy can hold their bladder for 7 hours.

Adult Goldendoodles should be able to hold their bladders for at least 9-10 hours. Having said that, you probably feel uncomfortable if you have to go that long between bathroom breaks.

So, you might want to consider hiring a dog walker or taking your Goldendoodle to a doggie daycare if youre away from home for more than 8 hours a day, five or more days a week.

Can Golden Retrievers Live Outside

Can golden retrievers live outside? This is an ongoing debate that may never be over. Some people feel that golden retrievers are supposed to guard the home, not be part of it. Others feel that golden retrievers should be kept indoors mostly and treated as loyal and trusted family members.

Dogs have a need to be part of a pack. They enjoy being a member of the family unit. While some breeds of DOG can physically survive being left outside, it can take a mental toll on them. They require more social stimulation than most owners, even with the best of intentions, are capable of giving.

Many outdoor golden retrievers become overwhelmed and stressed;(read more about a;golden retriever separation anxiety by their situation. This can cause barking, scratching, fear or aggression toward anyone or anything that comes their way. Unfortunately, some owners think that that is a good thing because they feel that it makes the golden retriever more protective of the property. Keep in mind that a security system can protect your property more than a tied up golden retriever can, and you dont have to feed the security system.

Consider for a moment how bored you would be if you were tied to a rope and left alone for even an hour or two. Well, an outdoor golden retriever endures that every single day.

Leaving A Puppy Home Alone

Raising a puppy and working full time might seem like an impossible mission, but, with a little effort, it can be done.

First, its important to take note of your puppys age. Young puppies under 6 months of age cant be left alone for more than two hours, so you might need a pet sitter or a doggy daycare to help you get through this tender period.

When you leave a puppy alone, it should be in a spacious, comfy crate or a puppy-proofed room. Not only that puppies love chewing everything they get their paws on, they can also injure themselves if theyre not confined to a safe space when they are alone.

As your puppy grows, you should start gradually increasing the time theyre spending alone. Leaving a puppy alone while at work will be much easier when theyve had the time to get used to being on their own.

Tips And Tricks To Get A Golden Retrievers To Sleep Through The Night

Puppies can be hard to train and take care for sometimes, but hopefully these tips can help you get to a full night sleep faster!

  • ;Take them out to go potty right before bedtime; this will put them in a routine and gives them the best chance to make it through the night without having to potty.
  • ;Establish a bedtime early! Letting them stay up late only makes them change their sleep pattern for future nights.
  • ;Try to move their crate as little as possible. Keeping it in the same soothing environment will make it easier for the puppy to establish that as their safe sleeping space.
  • ;If they need to go to the potty in the middle of the night, dont punish them! Puppies have small bladders and cant hold it as long as older dogs can. Its better for them to wake you up then to go potty in their crate or in the house.
  • ;When they wake up, they are going to want to play! Take some time in the morning to allow them to let energy out.
  • ;Stay patient with yourself and your pup, they are learning, too!

Will My Golden Retriever Protect Me Yes Its Possible

Can a Golden Retriever be left alone? Easy Retriever ...

This depends on the dog. Some goldens are scared of everything but they are smart enough to know danger. They are also very in tune with their owners for that I do think if someone was going to physically harm their owner a golden would put up a some sort of fight.

If you have ever wrested with someone in front of you, golden to do a test and see how they react. My golden gets into protection mode if we play wrestle in front of him. He starts barking, jumping, and will try to get in between us. Hes all pumped to protect me until I ensure him its okay. This is why I think he would try and protect us in the event of danger.

This is really about knowing your dog and giving them a chance to grow up a bit before making assumptions. A younger dog tends to be more timid and scared of stuff, whichs a good thing. You dont want a puppy being aggressive right out the gate, but as your dog gets older and develops a bond with you, the need to be protective over you in a dangerous situation may be there.

How Much Indoor Space Does A Golden Retriever Need When Left Alone

Hey, I asked this on r/pets and got directed this way. Anyway, I have a 3 year old male golden retriever who stays at home when I go to work . He currently has both the run of a small galley-style kitchen and a hallway when he’s left on his own, which probably amounts to 1×4.5 metres worth of space, and he seems happy with that.

The reason for my question is that I am looking to move house in the next few months, out of a rental to a house that I buy, and much nearer to green spaces. However many of the houses I look at have limited options in terms of space to keep my dog. This is because I know he will bark a lot at first when settling in to the new house, and so I want keep him in rooms that don’t share a party wall with the neighbours, ideally a large kitchen, but there aren’t many houses like this available. I have seen some where the entrance hallway/lobby area is far away from the party wall, and these would have maybe 1×2 metres of space available to him, which on the one hand sounds fine given that he sleeps most of the time that I’m away, but on the other hand I don’t know if I’d like to be kept in that small a space.

Does anyone have advice on the minimum space you should give a dog like a retriever? He’s about 40kg and about 90cm long and quite svelte if that is useful information. He sleeps comfortably in a 91x63cm bed. Thanks!

Will A Golden Retriever Run Away

As we previously mentioned, Golden Retrievers are incredibly intelligent, and the breed always greatly loves the people they live with.

So when you have to leave them alone, its not uncommon for this intelligent dog to find a way out of the house or garden.

They can spend all day teaching themselves to carefully climb the fence or open doors when they are bored and determined with energy to burn.

To combat this, try taking your Golden Retriever for an early morning walk before you leave the house. This will help to burn off some of your Goldies energy so that hopefully they will just chill out when you leave the house.

Golden Retrievers Home Alone

If youre not home often because of work and travel, or if youre home and dont take the time to walk or play with your dog, its likely they will get lonely. Your Golden Retriever needs a lot of attention and love, and you have to be home to provide that to them.

After a long day at work or a business trip, consider giving your dog a bit of extra love and attention to make up for it.;

While a healthy, happy Golden Retriever should have no problems being left home alone for 8 hours or so, much longer than this on a regular basis could become a problem.

How Should I Treat Any Incidents Or Accidents That Happen While I Am Away From My Golden Retriever Who Is Left Home Alone

The way that you should treat any incidents or accidents that happen while you are away from your golden retriever who is left home alone is with a gentle but loving hand but a firm reminder of their training.

Accidents and incidents happen to us all, some of our own doing, some through no fault of our own.; Whatever the cause, the golden retriever needs to be reminded of the training and house rules through gentle love and care.

Golden retrievers are very gentle and loving dogs and should be treated with the same care and compassion that all dogs should be.; They have feelings just as we do, and while they may need to be reminded not to chew on something or that they shouldnt pee in the house while you are away, it must be understood that they likely didnt do it intentionally.

It can be challenging for any dog to be away from the people they share a close bond with.; And this can not easily be remedied with any amount of toys, snacks, or other things.; The simple fact is while you are away, they can miss you desperately, and it is often beyond their control that they act the way they do.

They might get scared while you are away or fear that you are never coming back.; They may get bored without time spent with you or just plain lonely because they miss you so much.; Whatever the cause, the golden retriever left home alone should continue to be treated with love and respect.

What Could Go Wrong Leaving A Golden Retriever Alone

Well, these seem to be the obvious concerns that get people to ask the questions in the first place. I can think of a handful of potential disasters you could find returning home after a long day of work.

  • Destroyed furniture
  • Doggy-bathroom stops all over the house
  • Damaged shoes or other clothing

While you have probably already considered these potential problems, there are some other things that you may have overlooked.

For example, what if your dog struggles with versions of separation or isolation anxiety . Any kind of anxiety will likely lead to some destructive behavior while you are gone.

Another thing you should consider is if your dog is house trained.

A rescue dog from a local shelter may come with the benefit of being already potty-trained. This is a major upside if your lifestyle requires you to leave your dog at home alone for long periods of time.

Preparations To Take If Leaving Your Golden Retriever Outside For A Short Period Of Time

If youre planning on letting your golden retriever outside for a short period of time, there are some preparations youll want to make to ensure your golden stays happy and healthy.

Leave Plenty of Food and Water

Even if youre home while your golden is getting some outside playtime, its smart to leave out plenty of food and water.

Dogs burn more calories and energy when theyre outside, playing, and active, and they burn even more when its chilly outside. Leaving out food for your golden can help them stay energized and warm while theyre out.

As we mentioned earlier, golden retrievers are also susceptible to heatstroke, heat exhaustion, and dehydration. Water is a must! Whether its hot or cold out, make sure to leave your golden with plenty of water.

Make Sure Your Golden Has Shelter

The shelter is a must for dogs that are going outside, even for short periods of time. Having a shelter can help your golden retriever get shade, shelter, and just have an area to feel more comfortable in.

If its cold out, stack your goldens shelter with hay or straw. It provides insulation from the cold and the wind and is much more useful than just blankets or other bedding.

Make Sure All Entrances/Exits to Your Outdoor Area Are Secure

Youll need to make sure all the entrances and exits to your outdoor area are secure before leaving your golden retriever outside for a short period of time. As we mentioned, these guys can become quite the escape artists!
