Rescued Golden Retrievers On The Mend In Richmond Area
By Tara Morgan – bio | HENRICO, VA – Dozens of golden retrievers rescued from a farm in Isle of Wight county are getting medical attention right here in the Richmond area. Some of the dogs are in foster homes in Henrico county.
The dogs were taken from the same farm where dozens of malnourished horses were recently seized.
The Southeastern Virginia Golden Retriever Rescue took in 30 of the dogs. Nineteen of them were placed in foster homes in the Richmond area.
Excluding the puppies, a Henrico veterinarian says all the dogs were underweight. All tested positive for intestinal worms and half the adults dogs have heart worms which can be fatal if not treated.
The owners of the farm voluntarily gave up the dogs.
“She was a breeder at one time and just got overwhelmed with it,” said Rose Bennett with the golden retriever rescue group.
So far, no charges have been filed in the case.
“It’s a touchy situation, I think intentions were good it just got out of hand,” said Bennett.
Bennett says the dogs will be put up for adoption in a few months.
