One Week Old Baby Golden Retriever

Golden Retriever Dog And Baby Are Best Friend – Cute Dogs Love Babies Compilation

At one week of age, Golden Retriever puppies should have bulked up significantly. They will have doubled their birth weight. This can be a great sign that they are healthy and that their development is on track.

They should keep gaining weight every day.

Their eyes and ears wont have opened just yet, but it will be happening very shortly!

During this stage, the pups will continue prioritizing eating and sleeping over anything else.

American Vs Canadian Vs British Golden Retrievers

There seems to be a lot of misinformation when it comes to American vs. Canadian vs. British goldens.

Remember, according to the Golden Retriever Club of America, and also the Golden Retriever Club of Canada, there is just one breed of golden retriever.

So to say that these are different types of golden retrievers is a little misleading

However, the breed standards are not so standard across the three nations.

American Standard
Not specified
Coat colors Rich, lustrous golden of various shadesPredominant body color which is either extremely pale or extremely dark is undesirable lustrous golden of various shades. Any shade of gold or cream, neither red nor mahogany.

Here are some interesting notes from the table above:

  • The British standard accepts shorter goldens
  • The AKC specifically says extremely pale or extremely dark is undesirable.
  • The British Kennel Club accepts cream as a color

Although these nations vary in accepted colors and sizes, one thing remains true: golden retrievers are typically sweet, loving family dogs.

So far this list has included different styles or fancy names of the same breed of golden retrievers, but thats about to change

This was the first time we had a chance to chart puppies;from birth until 8 weeks old.

We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week.

When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring;home our puppies at around 7-8 weeks old.

On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings;during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama;and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition.

Our experience with puppies from birth to 8 weeks old was limited at best.

During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies, but both were already 3-4 weeks old by the time we got them home.

More recently we had the opportunity to meet Archers litter when they were 4 weeks old and then again at 6 weeks to do temperament testing.

Unless you get the opportunity to raise a litter of puppies its unlikely you will get to see much of the early stages of puppyhood.

The good news is Im going to share my pics and experiences with Ravens Litter from birth until 8 weeks old.

Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge!

Goldens Are Hailed As Super Heroes

Golden retrievers are fiercely loyal to their families, so it’s no surprise that there are countless stories of goldens protecting or rescuing their people from dangerous situations.

Todd, the sweet golden pictured here, is one of those puppy heroes. In June 2018, Todd went on a hike with his owner, Paula, on a trail near Anthem, Arizona. During their hike, Paula nearly stepped on a rattlesnakeand when the snake lunged at her, Todd jumped in front of her to protect her. Although Todd was bitten on the nose and had severe swelling in his face, he’s expected to make a full recovery.

Because of his heroic deed, the internet has hailed Todd as a very, very;good boy. And believe it or not, Todd has found a way to be an even better;boy: He has;a GoFundMe page to help other heroic doggies who have suffered from the same injuries.

Three Week Old Baby Golden Retriever

Exciting developments continue to occur as Golden Retriever puppies reach the three-week milestone! They should be a bit more balanced on their feet, showing some confidence in walking about. They may even start playing with their den mates for the first time.

The Happy Cat Handbook – A unique guide to understanding and enjoying your cat!

Along with these new behaviors, the pups will likely become more vocal, and may bark and wine. Up until now, the pups will have been simply grunting and mewing.

With these new social developments, the breeders can begin early socialization training. This can be a great period to get the puppies familiar with human presence and contact. Its also possible to begin crate and potty training. Getting this started early can be a great help.

Its important to note that their baby teeth will be well on the way to fully coming through. While they arent ready for the weaning process to begin, it wont be long now.

    Coat Color And Grooming

Golden Retrievers have a dense, water-repellent outer coat with a thick undercoat. Some coats are wavy, some are straight. The fur feathers on the back of the front legs and underbody, with heavier feathering on the chest, back of the thighs, and tail.

Golden Retrievers come in all shades of gold, from light to dark gold. Some breeders have begun selling “rare white Goldens,” but the American Kennel Club does not recognize white as a coat color for the breed.

Golden Retrievers shed moderately in the winter and summer, and heavily in the spring and fall. If you live with a Golden, you’ll need to adapt to a certain amount of dog hair in your house and on your clothes.

The Golden’s thick coat means lots of grooming. Daily brushing is recommended to prevent tangling, and once a week is the bare minimum. Your Golden will also need a bath at least once a month, often more frequently, to keep him looking and smelling clean.

Brush your Golden’s teeth at least two or three times a week to remove tartar buildup and the bacteria that lurk inside it. Daily brushing is even better if you want to prevent gum disease and bad breath.

Begin accustoming your Golden to being brushed and examined when he’s a puppy. Handle his paws frequently;;dogs are touchy about their feet;;and look inside his mouth. Make grooming a positive experience filled with praise and rewards, and you’ll lay the groundwork for easy veterinary exams and other handling when he’s an adult.

Even though they’re called;golden retrievers, not all goldens have a yellow-gold coat. They can range from a very light, snowy white, to a yellow-gold, to a dark, coppery red.

No matter the color of their coat, however, it’s important to;never;cut your golden retriever’s hairdoing so can put her at risk of skin cancer, among other health issues. Their coats are made up of two layersthe long, silky, waterproof outercoat and soft, warming undercoatand act as insulators against all types of weather. So, if you think to trim your golden’s coat in the summer to keep it cool, think again! It’ll be much cooler and its skin will be protected from the sun with its coat intact.

Its more commonly found in working bred Goldens, who are also often slimmer in body shape and have slightly narrower faces.

The amiable Golden Retriever isn’t bothered by the noise and commotion of kids;;in fact, he thrives on it. He’s a large, strong dog, though, and he can easily knock over a small child by mistake.

As with every breed, you should always teach children how to approach and touch dogs, and always supervise any interactions between dogs and young children to prevent any biting or ear or tail pulling on the part of either party. Teach your child never to approach any dog while he’s eating or sleeping or to try to take the dog’s food away. No dog, no matter how friendly, should ever be left unsupervised with a child.

The Golden’s attitude toward other pets is the more the merrier. He enjoys the companionship of other dogs, and with proper introductions and training, can be trusted with cats, rabbits, and other animals.

A Baby Golden Retriever Is Born

    Baby Golden Retrievers Picture

Golden Retriever litters usually comprise of 1-14 pups, with 7-8 as the average.

When they are first born, baby Golden Retrievers will need to have their umbilical cords removed. In most cases, the mother will take care of this herself, but breeders may need to intervene if she does not.

The newborn babies will also need to be cleaned up by either their mother or the breeder.

When the puppies are first born, they will spend all of their time either nursing from the mother or sleeping.
