When Can My Puppy Meet New People

Raising Golden Retriever Puppies, (Part 3) Gracie May and Molly McSnuggles 2021

Its important to ensure your puppy experiences different types of people.

Children of all ages, tall people, people with hats and sunglasses, people in uniforms, and people with disabilities should all be your puppys list of people to meet during socialization.

Weve all heard stories of dogs who just dont like men, or people with short hair, or dogs who are afraid of wheelchairs.

Early socialization is the best chance of making sure your puppy doesnt develop these fears.

Dog-friendly hardware stores make an excellent destination for a young puppy.

Though your puppy shouldnt explore the floor here, many stores are okay with a puppy being pushed around in the shopping trolly as you walk through the isles.

This saves you from carrying a growing puppy the whole trip and means they get used to the motion of the trolly. Just remember to sanitize the trolly before and after use!

Write A Puppy Socialisation Checklist For Your Golden Retriever Puppy

Yes, there is a checklist and its a long one. But you can download it here, or read our full article about it here. Its an enlightening read, honestly. Theyll give you the best ideas of things to do with your puppy to help them learn that the outside world is a positive place theyll be happy to live in.

Make Sure Golden Retriever Puppies Are Happy Healthy And Comfortable

Taking responsibility for puppies is a hectic job. And you need to be careful about caring for, grooming, and parenting these smaller ones. Furthermore, these younger ones are susceptible to many health hazards due to weaker immune systems.

Besides this, they cant control their body temperature and needs to be warm due to the lack of dense and longer skin coat. So, try to keep the temperature of the surroundings within 85 to 90 ºC.

Moreover, it is better to manage a temperature of 80 ºC for the one-week-old puppy. And as the pal becomes more than four weeks older, you can reduce the temperature to 75 ºC.

Along with this, you should manage a comfortable carte box for the puppies. In addition, keep the noise low in the house so that your puppy can cope easily with the surrounding. Also, make sure you spend enough time with your pal to build a strong bond with them.

Raising A Puppy : Its Time To Start With Your Golden Retriever

Raising a puppy is always a challenging task for all owners. The golden retriever puppys owners should always learn how to properly raise a puppy to prevent it being a problem dog. Would you want a Golden retriever dog thats always pestering you for couch property? Being choosy about the food? Or worse invading your privacy when you have a visitor?.

If you properly raise your puppies, youll have a happier relationship with the dog in the future. Imagine your Golden retriever dog being able to fetch your slippers, be sweet and protective of you, or even cook your favorite food? Ok, the last one seems to far fetch. But learning how to be able to raise the dog properly can help reduce your stress in the future.

One of the things that you should consider when raising a puppy properly is the social skills it should develop. Socialization is important to a puppy because it helps the puppy absorb new information. A puppy is like a sponge being able to absorb all kinds of information in their new world. So dont make them watch porn with you or your puppy might have lots of puppies at an early age :-).

As a pet owner you should also make the Golden retriever puppy socialize with other people or dogs. This will make the puppy feel more comfortable with other dogs and people. Making the chances of biting someone reduced when the dog is in an unfamiliar place.

This was the first time we had a chance to chart puppies from birth until 8 weeks old.

We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week.

When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around 7-8 weeks old.

On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition.

Our experience with puppies from birth to 8 weeks old was limited at best.

During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies, but both were already 3-4 weeks old by the time we got them home.

More recently we had the opportunity to meet Archers litter when they were 4 weeks old and then again at 6 weeks to do temperament testing.

Unless you get the opportunity to raise a litter of puppies its unlikely you will get to see much of the early stages of puppyhood.

The good news is Im going to share my pics and experiences with Ravens Litter from birth until 8 weeks old.

Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge!

Waiting Too Long To Start The Training

A friend of mine convinced me that puppies should be allowed to do whatever they want without any restrictions.. and their training should start after they are 6 months old.

The WORST ADVICE ever. All dog trainers and experts recommend starting training your pup the moment they come home with you.

It will not only shape your dogs behavior but also strengthen the both between you too

Before Puppy Comes Home

The first step in deciding whether or not a golden retriever puppy is for you is to educate yourself as to what all you will need before your puppy even comes home. This is just a small list of items you will need to bring home to prepare for your new puppy:

  • Food dish and water bowl
  • Bed
  • Toenail clippers
  • Puppy pads

Additionally, youre going to need to remove things from your house before you bring your new dog home. You have to puppy proof just as you would baby proof. This means removing all breakable items from tables and low shelves, hiding all things you dont want your dog to potentially decide to snack on, and keeping all items up high and out of the dogs reach for protection purposes. Its an expensive endeavor and a lot to consider, and you havent even taken possession of a puppy yet.

Be Prepared For What Youre Getting Into

Nothing makes my blood boil more than those stories about families who adopt puppies only to drop them at the humane society a week later because, They peed all over the house and were too much work. It just didnt work with our lifestyle. Remember, when you bring a 7-week old puppy home you are basically welcoming a baby into your house. Do you expect children to be potty-trained and well-behaved straight out of the womb? Of course not. It takes timeand training. So before you even make the choice to bring a puppy home, ask if you can handle it at this point in life. Are you prepared for the work it takes to raise a puppy? Will you freak out if the puppy has accidents inside? Has your family had a real discussion on the responsibilities for caring for the puppy? If you cant handle a puppy, consider adopting an older and calmer dog. There are so many in need of homes.

I remember thinking on quite a few occasions with Zoey, Oh my godwhat have I done? I totally forgot that it was this hard. Can I do this? Will I ever love her as much as Sullie? These are normal thoughts. Stay the course. You can do this and its worth it.

When Can I Put My Puppy On The Ground

Ive heard many vets suggest the chances of contracting illnesses on the floor at a veterinary office are slim.

Thats because it is highly unlikely an unvaccinated dog has been there recently. So this can be a great place to sniff around and meet people who love dogs!Always double check with your vet, though.

The chance of contracting a virus preventable by a vaccine is low at a veterinary clinic, but your veterinarian will be able to tell you for sure if the area is safe or not.

Even if your veterinarian suggests you hold your puppy rather than put him or her on the ground, its still a great place to meet new humans.

When I worked at a veterinary clinic, the best part of my day was always meeting a new puppy.

Im sure the receptionists, vet techs, and anyone else working at the clinic will be ecstatic about cuddling your young puppy while you fill out paperwork!

Vaccination schedules can take up to four visits for a young puppy making your veterinarians office a staple in your puppys social life.

Make Dog Training Clear

Using the clicker training method can help you communicate very clear feedback when your dog gets it right. is extremely effective and is used worldwide to train all kinds of species!

This method uses a special sound to mark a specific behavior. Using a dog clicker, like the Downtown Pet Supply training dog clicker, lets your pet know he has earned a reward. It doesnt take long for a dog to understand and then repeat the behavior.

Teach The Puppy To Self

Raising Golden Retriever Puppies, (Part 4) Gracie May and Molly McSnuggles 2021

Like children, puppies can become overstimulated, making it difficult to wind down. While play and exercise are essential, too much can be overwhelming. Disrupting nap times may cause the puppy to be overtired.

As noted in the first tip, do not disturb the puppy when napping. Once the puppy has been exercised and played with adequately, you can help it settle down by giving it a chew toy such as a kong with some kibble in it or placing a snuffle mat in the puppys crate or bed.

Puppies chew a lot due to teething, and the chew toys and small treats preoccupy the puppys mouth and the mind as well, which helps the puppy settle. This is the first step to teaching a puppy how to self-soothe.

Golden Retriever Puppy Biting

Golden Retriever puppies like to play with their mouth and teeth Ouch!

It is natural and completely normal. The bad news is that you CAN NOT stop it, they NEED to bite, you can redirect their bite to appropriate things, like toys. The good news is that you can teach them to control the pressure they make with their mouth until mouthing turns into soft kisses. Follow this link for a how-to-guide.

Playing with a puppy’s mouth is a great way to teach him to how control his teeth. Yelp! like a puppy in pain to let him know it hurt!

Finally, you can also start golden retriever training obedience commands, since puppies can learn very fast many things but you need to concentrate your attention on the three topics above, because they are key factors to help your puppy become a friendly and social dog, one you can trust and trusts you.

What To Expect As Far As Health

Dogs are just as needy as kids when it comes to taking them to their doctor. Your kids have to go at least once a year, more often in the first year, and so does your dog. This is to assess how healthy your dog is. Your dog must see the vet right away, and you must be willing to spend the money and the time to ensure your dog stays healthy by making trips to the vet when necessary.

You must also be willing to care for your dog at home to eliminate the need to go to the vet. One of the most important things you can do is properly groom your dog. This is a dog with a long coat, which means it must be brushed several times a week to prevent matting and other issues. It must see the groomer for a trim every four to six weeks. Its ears must be properly cleaned with baby wipes every week, and it must be bathed, but not too often or the dog might become sick with skin issues.

Your dog will experience health issues and skin problems if you allow him or her to mat. When matted hair covers the skin, the dogs skin is not protected from germs, bacteria and other dangerous infections. It might not be fun to fight your dog into the groomers care once a month, but its less fun to see your dog suffer and require several trips to the vet when you allow this to go undone and your dog gets sick.
