When your golden retriever puppy has reached 4 weeks, you should notice an increase in his energy level. He will still need a lot of rest, but should be getting around a little more. Can Golden Retrievers Eat Fruit
Now that you know which fruits are safe for your dog to consume, you may be wondering if Golden Retrievers can actually eat fruit.
Golden Retrievers can eat fruit since dogs have evolved to eat an omnivorous diet due to thousands of years of domestication and have a digestive system capable of digesting plant-based foods. Dogs also have flat molars for grinding and crushing plant material, such as fruits and vegetables.
Check out the below diagram showing omnivorous dog traits affected by domestication and reflecting the typical feast-or-famine lifestyle of the wolf, the carnivorous ancestor of the dog:

Why Do Golden Retrievers Eat Everything
There are several reasons why your Golden Retriever is eating everything. Some common reasons include stress, illnesses, boredom, and not getting adequate nutrients or food. Another reason includes their curious nature, which urges your Golden Retriever to taste different things and satisfy their curiosity.;
At What Age Is A Golden Retriever Considered A Senior
Golden Retrievers are larger dogs so that automatically shortens their lifespan. Larger dogs age faster than smaller dogs, the reason why is still a mystery but scientists believe that its simply because large dogs grow faster. Growing faster can lead to an earlier incidence of tumours and other abnormal tissue developments including cancer.
The lifespan of a Golden Retriever is 10-12 years on average. Decades ago Golden Retrievers lived to be 16-17 years old. The reason for their reduced lifespan now is believed to be because this breed is more prone to certain types of cancer than any other breed.
A Golden Retriever is considered a senior at the age of 7.5-10 years old.
Many people believe that 1 human year is equivalent to 7 dog years, but this is not the case and it all depends on the size of the dog. Scientists have come to the conclusion that for every 4.4 pounds of body mass a dog has, their life expectancy is reduced by one month.

Taurine Deficiency In Golden Retrievers
Past publications and research suggest that Golden Retrievers may be genetically predisposed to taurine deficiency, which is well-documented as potentially leading to DCM, via FDA.
Veterinary cardiologist Dr. Joshua Stern from the University of California at Davis has been studying the rise in cases of DCM in Golden Retrievers, including a potential dietary link. Many cases of DCM in Golden Retrievers are taurine-deficient.
Pet owners who suspect their Golden Retrievers may be affected may wish to consult their veterinarian to discuss checking taurine levels or conducting an echocardiogram.

The Poop Eating Problem: Does Every Dog Do That
As I mentioned in the previous section, your Golden Retriever isnt the only dog who likes to munch on his poo. In fact, in a study conducted by Dr. Benjamin Hart in 2012, it was found that:
- One in six dogs is classified as serious poop eaters, which means that they were caught in the act five times!
- One in four dogs were seen eating poop at least once
So, yes, poop eating is a disgusting habit that your dog has.
In the research paper, Dr. Hart wrote:
Our conclusion is that eating of fresh stools is a reflection of an innate predisposition of ancestral canids living in nature that protects pack members from intestinal parasites present in feces that could occasionally be dropped in the den/rest area.
Provide Them With Mental Stimulation
Did you know that one way to keep your golden retriever healthier and happier is to keep them mentally stimulated?
This can include teaching them tricks and basic dog commands, taking them swimming, doing any physical exercise with them, or playing their favorite games with them. Another great option is to arrange a play date for your dog where it likely to get along with other dogs, play with them, and have a good time.
This kind of mental stimulation prevents these dogs from getting bored and keeps their mood up.

Furthermore, neutered golden Retrievers need fewer calories compared to their unaltered counterparts, and nursing females will have to eat more to maintain their weight and produce milk for the puppies.

How Often To Feed A Golden Retriever
Puppies: Pet experts advise dog owners to adopt the concept of timing and ration. They believe that dogs up to six months old go through phases similar to human infancy and adolescence, being born with poor digestive function and four months of rapid growth with high nutritional and caloric requirements. Trainers and experts agree that Golden Retrievers should be fed three meals a day. In general, dogs start losing their teeth around 3 to 6 months of age. First, the dogs baby teeth slowly fall out, followed by new permanent teeth. The whole process lasts until the dog is eight to ten months old, and thats when its all over. During the transition, your dogs teeth will be itchy and he likes to chew on things all the time. Choose a bone or a molar snack to grind your dogs teeth
Adult dogs: As for adult dogs, pet experts believe that if you do not eat when it is time to eat, stomach acid will still secrete, which in the long run can lead to gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcers. Therefore, it is recommended to eat two meals a day, and it should be regularly fixed. But dog trainers believe that one meal a day is enough. They believe that dogs and humans are fundamentally different. Wild dogs can eat only once every three days or once a week and still remain energetic.
In general: three months ago Golden Retriever, fed four times a day; Three to six months of puppies fed 3 times a day, six months after feeding 2 times a day, adult Golden Retrievers fed 1-2 times a day.

Avoid Dangerous Or Questionable Dog Food Ingredients
Although there are numerous brands ;available in your local supermarket, not all of them are nutritious or ideal for supporting optimal health in your Goldie. Just as you need to read ingredients on the food that you buy for yourself and your family, you must learn to do the same for your Golden retriever.
Although cheap dog food is pocket-friendly, it doesnt always offer much nutritional value to your dog. Most low-cost dog foods come with numerous fillers, by-products, additives, preservatives, and unnecessary ingredients that are detrimental to your dogs overall health. Depending on the types of fillers and by-products used, most cheap dog food may even contribute to issues with your dogs health in the future.;
Proteins and fat sources are essential in your dogs diet and should always come directly from an animal-based source rather than an artificial alternative. If you cannot identify the source of the fats, proteins, or meats listed in the ingredients, you shouldnt feed it to your Goldie.
Since most dog foods nowadays are outsourced from companies overseas, you may be unable to trace the exact source of some of the ingredients used. In such a case, you should be wary of purchasing such products as they may be harmful to your fur baby.
