Are Black Lab Golden Retriever Mixes Good Family Pets
Most families get on well with a black Lab Golden Retriever mix. But, many dont realise quite how much work these dogs take. Theyre friendly, playful, and very social. But, this amazing temperament wont suit all lifestyles.
A Goldador wont make a good guard dog. They tend to love everyone they meet, especially when socialized and trained from a young age. They also wont do well if left alone for long periods, since they are so human-oriented. These dogs need families that have plenty of time to dedicate, and who can take their dog with them everywhere.

Origins Of The Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is currently the American Kennel Clubs third most popular pet dog in the nation.
Originally from the highlands of Scotland, for this breeds first 50 years in existence, the Golden Retriever was bred with care by a single breeder intent on creating the perfect gundog.
The Golden Retriever did not become known to enthusiasts outside of Scotland until the early 20th century, when they began popping up in the United Kingdom and in the United States in the show ring and in hunting dog circles.
President Gerald Ford had a Golden Retriever named Liberty, and this propelled the breed into the international limelight from that point forward.

How Is A Goldador Different From A Labrador
These designer dogs try to take the best of the Golden and the Lab. It is a logical mix, as both dogs have very similar personalities. However, as a hybrid, it is not its own breed and it typically leans more toward one parent or the other. As a result, your Goldador can either be very similar to a Labrador or it can be very different.
If the dog is Golden-dominant, you might find that its personality is somewhat tamer than a traditional Labrador. While Goldens are highly active dogs, they can also be lazy. As long as they get enough exercise they are happy to relax around the home. Their calm demeanor is something that many people find attractive.
Labradors, on the other hand, are more hyperactive than Goldens. They always want to play, and this can be overwhelming to some owners. They carry their puppy energy with them throughout their long lives, making them a fun companion for many years.
Another difference that you might notice if your dog is more Golden-dominant is its appearance. Goldador puppies and adults can vary greatly in appearance, but they tend to look more like the dominant breed. As a result, a Golden-heavy dog might have longer hair in a golden color. Regardless, your dog will shed copiously, and you should brush it 34 times a week.

What Is A Black Lab Golden Retriever Mix
Its as easy as its name sounds! This dog is simply a puppy with one Golden Retriever parent and one black Labrador Retriever parent.
Since the genes for a black dog coat are dominant, many breeders hope that they will get black Goldador puppies when they breed with a black Labrador parent. But, first generation mixes like this are quite unpredictable. So, theres no real way of knowing exactly what traits puppies will inherit until they arrive. This applies to everything from a dogs appearance and general temperament, to their health and specific care needs. Which is why its so important to choose a reputable breeder that only breeds from the healthiest parent dogs.

Quick Retriever Breed Facts And History
Labrador retrievers have been Americas favorite dog breed for 25 years running. But Golden retrievers still hold their own, always landing within the top five.
Both retrievers share a common ancestor in the St. Johns Water Dog . This extinct breed originated in Canada and was exported from Newfoundland to England in the 19th century.
St. Johns Water Dogs were bred to help fishermen drag their nets across the ice. These retrieving traits have been passed down to the breeds modern day ancestors, making goldens and labs powerful swimmers.
Are Labrador Retrievers Easy To Train
Yes, training most Labrador Retrievers is easy. They housebreak quickly and are usually willing to please.
But this breed is strong and energetic, especially adolescents. Many Labradors between one and three years old are dropped off at animal shelters or rescue groups because of dog behavior problems such as pulling vigorously on the leash and jumping on people.
Focus on teaching loose-leash walking, indoor calmness, and no jumping. All of these are taught in my puppy training book, Respect Training For Puppies.

Grooming Your Labrador Crossed With Golden Retriever
The Golden Lab Retriever Mix has a double-coat so it should be groomed regularly, especially during their shedding season.
The hybrid dog sheds moderately, so you dont have to worry about it taking much of your time. You might need to brush them once or twice a week if they inherited the short coat of a Lab. However, if they got some of that long, waxy Golden Retriever fur, brushing them 3-4 times a week throughout the year is recommended.
During their shedding season, daily brushing must be done regardless of the hair length. You dont have to worry about regular trimming as their hair wont grow as long or be feathered like their Golden Retriever parent.
When it comes to bathing, your Golden Lab Mix should only be given a bath when needed, such as when its coat becomes too soiled or when hes going to spend a heavy activity on a hot summer day. You can also try to do a swimming activity since this hybrid dog loves to a swim a lot.
More attention should be given to the ears when grooming because the Golden Lab Mix is much more prone to suffer from ear infections than other dogs. Their ears should be cleaned regularly and taken care of by a professional groomer.
Long nails should be trimmed to avoid problems concerning tearing or splitting if they are not worn down naturally.

What Is A Goldador
The highly popular Goldador is a designer dog breed that was developed by crossing a purebred golden retriever with a purebred Labrador retriever. Created to be sensitive with a strong work ethic, Goldadors excel at working as guide dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, and bomb detection dogs.
To understand this mix, lets look at both of its parent breeds first.
Labrador retrievers were originally developed in the UK from fishing dogs imported from Canada. They were bred to retrieve waterfowl, so they are comfortable in the water and love to swim.
Due to their intelligence, trainability, and loyalty, they quickly became popular working dogs, in particular taking on tasks such as disability assistance. They are also one of the most popular household pets in the United States.
Hailing from the Highlands of Scotland, the golden retriever was also bred to retrieve waterfowl. They share many of the same personality traits as Labradors and are intelligent, friendly, and loyal.
In addition to being popular family pets, they have also become popular working dogs, often working in disability assistance. Generally speaking, Goldens tend to be slightly more friendly and personable than Labs, but both are highly sociable and friendly.
When you combine the two, you get a Golden Lab mix an affectionate, patient, and people-loving dog with a strong work ethic.
Black Lab Golden Retriever Mix Rescue
As this mix becomes more popular, you may also be able to find puppies and older black Goldadors available for rescue. The Goldador is one of the most popular current designer breeds. So, you may even find rescue centers dedicated to them. However, many rescue centers for the parent breeds will often take mixed puppies.
Dogs from rescue centers will often have some basic training, and will be much cheaper than puppies from a reputable breeder. Speak to staff about your situation at home to make sure they can pair you with the best possible match. If you have kids or other pets, theyll be able to find you a Goldador that is super friendly. Or, if you dont have much experience with training, they can help you find a black Goldador that already knows basic obedience.

How Much Does A Black Mouth Cur Lab Mix Cost
In the market, a Black Mouth Cur Lab mix puppy can cost anywhere from $300 to $500. But, keep in mind this price can vary depending on the breeders or where you get the animal.
A Black Mouth Cur or a Cur Lab mix will also sometimes show up in the adoption or rescue system.
Not only is adopting and rescuing a dog helpful, but it also means you will be paying a lesser amount since most adoption or rescue fees will only be around $50 to $300 at most. Again, this figure would depend on the rescue or adoption center.
The only caveat in going with a rescue or adoption situation is that its unlikely you will find the Cur Lab mixes as puppies. They will most likely be adult dogs who are either rescued or abandoned strays or even surrendered by former owners.
Nevertheless, this option will help you save money. Plus, youll also have more defined personalities which could help determine if the dog will fit your lifestyle or not.
