Characteristics Of White Golden Retrievers
English Cream Golden Retrievers are known for their highly relaxed, ultra-mellow temperaments. These dogs are intelligent, loving, playful and incredibly loyal, which makes them the perfect pet to own from puppyhood. Many people desire the quality European bloodlines associated with the White Golden breed, which guarantee the highest pedigree for dog shows and future breeding. In fact, White Golden Retrievers are often bred for three main reasons: their unmatched temperament, their outstanding health, and their sturdy structures. White Goldens also sport glossy light-colored, cream-colored coats, and generally grow healthy and strong. All Goldens have at least some Golden color in their coats, even the whitest cream colored Golden still have gold highlights running throughout their coats. Hence the term Cream is a much more appropriate description than White.
This breed loves to be active and offers a beautiful light-colored coat of hair that stands out against other breeds. A White Golden Retriever puppy is a team player and behaves well with everyone. To breed white golden retriever puppies, is no simple task. It requires a lot of work, often artificial insemination and more frequently, C sections. We decided we would like to make a doggy addition to our home, and went hunting for the perfect dog. For two years we searched, studied and spoke to dozens of breeders. We finally found the perfect breedthe English/European Golden Retriever. We have been absolutely amazed with the English Cream Golden Retriever. They are exceptionally smart, beautiful, calm and sweet.
We chose the English Golden because they are not only the most beautiful and intelligent dogs we have ever been around, but they are healthier than the American Golden Retriever. After much research we were shocked to learn that cancer was the cause of death in an astounding 61.8% of American Goldens and only 38.8% of English Goldens a HUGE difference. For that reason and many others we selected the English Golden.

As breeding associates, we utilize current research and data on successful breeding, gestation, whelping, and puppy development from professional memberships with Avidog and Puppy Culture. In addition, we follow the advice of Dr. Emmanuel Fontaine, DVM, PhD European College of Animal Reproduction.
The Prenatal Period
Did you know that puppies are affected by the health, happiness and environment of their mother and father? Did you know mother dogs who receive affection during their pregnancy may give birth to more docile puppies?
At Sono Grato, we understand the role stress hormones have in perinatal development and know puppies born of stressed parents may have less bone mass and learning deficits. Therefore, we provide our dogs with the following:
- Daily exercise- hikes, field running, swimming, and core body training.
- Lots and lots of affection and praise.
- Balanced species appropriate diet with additional supplements to meet the needs of reproduction.
- Frequent grooming- brushed daily, bathed at least monthly, teeth brushed nightly.
- Daily opportunities for exploration and problem solving, therapeutic chewing, training and relaxation.
These are the fundamentals of care provided to our dogs on a consistent basis in an effort to meet their needs, which in turn, make our dams and sire happy, healthy and stable parents for our puppies.

Why English Cream Golden Retrievers
We owned, loved and bred American Golden Retrievers prior to discovering the English Cream Goldens. While both make wonderful family pets, the improved health and longevity of the English Cream Goldens has earned them a special place in our hearts, and we want to give you a chance to enjoy the boundless love and companionship these amazing dogs have to offer.
All Golden Retrievers are descended from a line originally bred in Scotland in the late 1800’s, and they come in a spectrum of colors ranging from pale cream to golden red. English Cream Golden Retrievers are not a separate breed. Throughout Europe, the UK, Canada and even Australia, they are just called Golden Retrievers. The other nicknames are used by Americans to differentiate the American Goldens from those bred to conform to the European breed standards. In addition to their distinctive pale cream coat, the European standards typically produce Goldens with a blockier head, slightly shorter frame, and a more mellow temperament than their American counterparts.

It starts before your puppy is ever conceived by providing proper diet, exercise and preventative healthcare to the parents. Throughout the pregnancy, the dam is monitored closely to be sure she and the puppies are progressing well. In addition to this she is provided with NuVet and exercise.
We are present to assist with every birth during whelping, and take every pain to make sure each puppy comes through the critical first twenty-four hours in good health.

We give every puppy a final check up from the veterinarian in which they are given a fecal, heart and full body examination. If they pass they are given an official Interstate Health Certificate.

We consider each of our dogs a member of the family, and that is how we treat them. From day one, the English Cream Golden Retriever puppies are in our home, being handled, played with and loved on every single day. Someone is with them the majority of the time, making sure they are well cared for and interacting with them throughout the day.
We are very unique in that we crate-train each puppy and partially potty train every puppy. We also have a very thorough extended training program called the Puppy Training Institute which offers puppy training from 6 weeks to 6 months of age. By the time a puppy graduates from the Puppy Training Institute, it is potty trained, crate trained, leash trained, stair trained, car trained, extensively socialized and knows the foundational commands of sit,stay,down,come,off,place, and more.
The English Cream Golden Retriever is one of the most delightful breeds we have ever encountered. However, as with any breed, if the puppies are not properly socialized, then problems such as excessive shyness, submissive urination , and more are often the result.
Due to the number of puppies produced, owners and operators of large kennels and pet stores generally do not have the time to properly socialize the puppies, and as a result, those that purchase puppies from these places often face the challenge of dealing with these emotional issues.

First Of All Our English Cream Golden Retrievers Have Some Of The Best Pedigrees In The World
All of our Goldens have been imported from only the best European Golden Retriever breeders. If you study our dogs pedigrees you will see multiple World, International and National champions. Also, many of our own dogs are International champions which is very rare in the US. Even if you are not planning on showing your Golden, it is still very beneficial to get a puppy from highly pedigreed parents.
To become successful in the show ring, not only do you need to have beautiful Goldens that conform to the Kennel Club standards, but you also need a very intelligent and super sweet temperament. When you get past the basic champion, judges look for a Golden that is highly trained and shows off the incredible sweet, calm and loving temperament of the Golden Retriever.
Our dogs parents and parents parents have all been hip, elbow, eye and heart tested. They are expensive but necessary tests to determine if the parents have any health issues that are common among Golden Retrievers. All of our English Cream Golden Retrievers have received their BVA or OFA hip & elbow clearance to breed.
Also, each English Cream Golden Retriever is tested annually by a canine ophthalmologist to renew their eye certification , and has seen a canine cardiologist/veterinarian to gain OFA heart clearance. Parents With Conformation And Performance Titles
Thirdly, weve successfully shown our dogs parents in three venues: conformation, obedience, and rally. We have earned titles at highly competitive levels in all three. You can also learn which titles you can earn in a weekend of shows with any mediocre dog.
We have done well with our older dogs in the conformation ring earning a wide variety of impressive titles. However, for our younger dogs, we have decided to concentrate our efforts in the obedience ring. We prioritize temperament and health over looks. However, all of our dogs are still beautiful and they come from long lines of conformation champions.

All of our English Golden Retriever parents have passed tests for hips, elbows, heart, and eyes and have had DNA testing. All of our dogs have passed with hip scores equivalent to either OFA excellent or good. We have no dogs rated as fair in any category. How We Raise Our Puppiescon’t
The Transitional Period- Days 14-21
Puppies have developmental periods that are defined by behavioral markers. An individual puppy might reach a specific developmental period ahead of, at the same time, or later than its litter mates.
At Sono Grato, we observe our puppies’ behaviors on a daily basis and make notations on our daily assessment log as each puppy demonstrates developmental markers.
In this transitional period, our Golden Retriever puppies show their precocious nature and desire to be clean. We have observed our puppies moving away from their bedding to eliminate at around 2 weeks of age. It is during this period that we introduce our “potty area.” By defining a sleeping area and an elimination area for the puppies, we begin the process of potty training. Everyone loves that our puppies have mastered eliminating in a potty box.
The Critical Socialization Period- 3-12 weeks
Most people are unaware that the critical socialization period begins at 3 weeks for puppies and ends at about 12 weeks of age.
Socialization is not simply exposing a puppy to someone or something. It is a healthy mixture of learning new skills, positive experiences with new things, sounds and people, and engagement in enrichment activities.

History Of The White Golden Retriever
It is well known that the Golden breeds have roots in Europe and Scotland as far back as the late 1860s. Goldens were originally breed by a British Aristocrat, Lord Tweedmouth, who mixed a yellow-colored Retriever with a Tweed Water Spaniel. Today, the Tweed Water Spaniel breed is extinct, but they were previously known for being enthusiastic retrievers used for hunting and calm, loyal dogs in the home. Their descendants continue to hold these characteristics. Though this cross breeding is where the Golden Retriever originated, there are now various colors of Retrievers that stem from this common ancestor.
