Grace Goldens is located in Birmingham, AL. We are a homeschooling family with three kids. Our flexible schedule allows us to spend much time with each puppy.
(There is nothing like a 5-week old puppy hanging
out while we work on divison.)
Our pups are delivered in our home . Puppies are raised in our home where they become familiar with the sights and sounds of “home” living. This early stimulation helps with socialization and transitioning from our home to yours. Our puppies are attended to night and day with lots of love and care. Each of our puppies are cared for from the moment they arrive until they go to their forever home.
Families that are on our Master List receive weekly updates on pregnancy. We allow our families to walk through this process with us. Whelping is a blessing from God and we want to share the excitment and joy with our extended puppy families.
We take pictures of our puppies at birth and every week until they go to their forever home. We place a few pictures on our facebook page but our families receive personality and growth updates a couple times a week.
As puppies are selected, in order of received application and deposit, we communicate directly with owners sending lots of pictures, as well as, growth and personality updates. We pride ourself on building a lasting relationship with our families before a puppy goes home and continuing throughout
the life of the dog.

One thing that I would change about our Golden is his voracious appetite, including that for things that arent actually edible, or very gross. He will inhale his meal in half a second and then stand there wagging his tail looking at me as if I owe him a second helping. Weve consulted our vet about portion sizes so we know we feed him enough. Its just that he always wants more, probably because his energy levels are so high. He also keeps picking things up from the ground when we are out for walks and tries to eat them. He has already almost eaten a pine cone, some old rag someone left outside, and a couple times another dogs poo! We try to show him its unacceptable by making indignant noises and taking the objects immediately out of his reach, but it still keeps happening. For a while we thought that perhaps he had some nutrient deficiencies, and our vet prescribed us some vitamins which we diligently give him, so maybe this will help.

Before getting our first dogs, we spent hundreds of hours researching. We started off deciding on the breed. From there, we moved to researching breeders and individual dogs and pedigrees.
It took us YEARS to refine our program to what it is today. We retired more than half of what we originally imported without ever breeding them. Ive been to Europe solely for the purpose of visiting extensively with breeders 3 times. Breeders send their best dogs to those they have a relationship with. The best breeders wont send them to the U.S. at all unless they know you. Most of these best breeders are leery of sending dogs to the U.S. because of the American reputation for puppy mills.
For those of you considering a new breeder or breeders with adults without verified clearances, proceed with care. There are a lot of European breeders that are exporting entire litters of what Americans are calling English Cream Golden Retrievers. In Europe, many of the parents of these puppies are considered by Europeans less than mediocre and just plain old Golden Retrievers. Many Americans are buying dogs from eastern Europe and Russia with FCI clearances that are not official. These clearances can be obtained from vets on dogs less than a year old. How We Care For Our Dogs
Unless it is rainy, our dogs have free access in and out of our home through doggy doors. We brush each dog regularly and bathe them about once a month. Because they have access to large outdoor areas, we rinse them off often. We do daily competitive obedience training with most of them and they all do short training sessions at meal times. The dogs rotate between the various areas in our home so that they all have quality time with us. We use primarily natural methods to prevent fleas and tics, and we feed our dogs high quality food.
