Goldenfest Returns To Shell Factory Nov 14
A dog is a mans best friend. So much so that the Shell Factory & Nature Park has always been dog friendly. You cant really go a day without seeing several four-legged friends being walked around by their owners.
And theres even a day devoted to them, with one particular breed set aside, the golden retriever.
On Sunday, Nov. 14, The Shell Factory will hold its 11th annual GoldenFest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot along U.S. 41, after last years event was cancelled due to COVID.
Dog owners are encouraged to bring their dogs and even join in on the fun, regardless of breed. Many years, there are just about as many dogs as there are people.
We expect this to be one of the biggest GoldenFests weve had. Were going to have a lot for people and dogs to do, said Anne Sheridan, general manager of the Shell Factory. We expect hundreds of dogs to come.
The event is put on every year by Golden Retriever Rescue of Southwest Florida, which has been in existence since 2009 and has rescued more than 1,000 goldens.
This year, as in the past, people will be able to see and perhaps even adopt rescue dogs from overseas, mainly South Korea. There also will be a reunion tent for the golden retrievers GRRSWF has rescued from there.
Since 2015, the rescue has saved 68 goldens from that country to raise awareness about the dog-meat industry that still exists in some parts of the world.
Golden Retriever Rescue Of Mid
The Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida is perhaps the most prominent rescue and adoption organization in Florida. It all started with a Golden Retriever named Charlie who needed double hip surgery in 1991.
When two members of the local breed club Mid-Florida Golden Retriever Club raised more than enough money for Charlies surgery, they decided to help more Golden Retrievers in need. Soon enough, a Rescue Committee was founded as part of the MFGRC.
The GRRMF has saved thousands of Golden Retrievers in Florida since 1991 and has helped these Goldens find their forever home. Besides pure-bred Golden Retrievers that were surrendered for adoption or rescued from the streets, dog lovers can also find mixed breeds like the Goldendoodle. The group offers in-depth details about each dog that is up for adoption, so families would know a little about their history. This Golden Retriever rescue covers the west coast of Florida from Gainesville to approximately the Sarasota area. They do not cover Big Bend, the Panhandle, or South Florida.
If youre not ready to adopt a Golden Retriever in Florida, you can always sign up to be a foster parent or volunteer. This allows you to get a feel of what owning a rescued Golden Retriever would be like. At the end of the day, rescued dogs are vastly different than buying a puppy because they likely come with traumatized backgrounds or abandonment issues.

Golden Retrievers Rescued From Meat Markets Get New Homes In Florida
PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. Twenty golden retrievers that were rescued from meat markets have found new homes in Palm Beach County.
Golden Rescue South Florida, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless golden retrievers and golden mixes, has rescued more than 2,000 golden retrievers.
Thanks to the help of the organization, on Sunday, 20 more dogs found new homes in Palm Beach County, reported ABC affiliate WFTS, citing WPTV.
The dogs, ranging in age from 1-8 years old, were rescued from meat markets around the world.
Adopters waited three months to meet their new furry friends.
You just know that you are giving them such a much better life and a much better experience than they would have had, said Tracey Griffis.
Their lives change 180 degrees from being tortured and horrifyingly treated and abandoned and abused and neglected to being loved and adored, said Lisa Hodgson, vice president of Golden Rescue South Florida.

While our Mission has always been to rescue Goldens from South Florida and Puerto Rico, Golden Rescue South Florida expanded their Mission to include the rescue of 20 Goldens from China in December, 2020. Based on the horrendous conditions these dogs face in Asia, we plan to continue our efforts in 2021. Goldenfest Returns Nov 14
A huge pet fair, GoldenFest XI, is coming up this fall in Southwest Florida.
Hosted by Golden Retriever Rescue of Southwest Florida, the festival will be held at the Shell Factory & Nature Park in North Fort Myers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14.
GoldenFest events include vendors, exhibits, pet portraits, dock dog diving, obedience, flyball and agility demos, K-9 demos, live music by the Long and Short Trio featuring Jim Visone, Bill Metts and Bruce Gallant, a doggy garage sale, refreshments, a Santa Paws photo booth, a huge raffle, and silent auction, and much more.
In attendance will be hundreds of goldens rescued by GRRSWF over the years. The rescue, founded in 2009, recently celebrated the arrival of its 1,000th rescue, Sydney, from South Korea.
We are so proud of all the pups and all the families we have helped in the last 12-plus years, said Dennis Guyitt, vice president of GRRSWF and GoldenFest XI coordinator in a prepared statement. GoldenFest is our chance to show our friends in Southwest Florida the best of what we do.
There will also be a reunion tent for the golden retrievers GRRSWF has rescued from South Korea. Since 2015, the rescue has saved 68 goldens from that country to raise awareness about the dog-meat industry that still exists in some parts of the world.
