This is not to say that an older dog wouldnt enjoy the training experience with you. There is sometimes the concern that there must be something wrong with a senior dog who has found himself in need of a new home. This is seldom the case. Like canines of all ages, senior dogs need love and consistent security. They also need good nutrition, exercise appropriate for their abilities and regular medical care. Keys To Success In Rehabilitating A Former Commercial Breeding Dog

• Another social, confident medium- to large-sized dog in the household. A confident household dog who is social with humans and other dogs to help the former breeding dog navigate and become accustomed to their new world.
• A home with children 10 years of age or older. Younger children can be noisy and unpredictable, which is stressful for a fearful dog. This RAGOM requirement is enforced not only in the best interest for the dog, but for safety reasons as well.
• Provide a safe spot for the dog, such as a crate or enclosed area where he can retreat if overwhelmed. Placing the safe spot where the family is often present lets him observe family life without feeling stressed.
• Keep the dog on a leash at all times initially allowing free roam of your entire home is overwhelming. He has not yet learned that humans can be safe and friendly, so he will most likely run if approached and will not come when called. Loud unexpected noises can startle and cause him to flee.
• Set a routine. Despite coming from a less than ideal environment, it is the only life he knows. So although you know he is safe now, he is confused and terrified of this new way of life. Knowing what to expect will help your dog feel safe. Feed at the same time every day, schedule potty breaks and walks, and be consistent about household rules.
• Be patient and proceed slowly. Do not force your dog to accept your touch. Let him come to you when he is ready. Slowly introduce only a few new experiences at a time.

Fancy is a very smart girl who has quite the sense of humor. She is what I call wicked smart because she picks things up so very quickly. She is also quite the cuddler and loves to be snuggled up next to someone-human or dog, will do!! She is my heart and is just sweetness personified. She mothers every puppy that is ever born here-whether it was one of hers or belonged to one of the other girls.

Fancy is very clean coming and going and converges nicely when moving. She is a good sized girl at a little over 22 in tall with a pretty face and soft expression. She is also very balanced front to rear.

Tease got her name More Than A Feeling because from the minute she was born, I knew she wouldnt be going anywhere and would be staying right here with us.

Tease has beautiful angles and a very pretty face with deep dark pigment. She also has very free and easy movement with good side gait and a clean coming and going with a stunning face.

Tease can also be quite the stinker and loves to play hard and have fun with everyone. She also has a sweet side to her though and she loves to snuggle up and be held.

Differences From The Golden Golden Retriever

History Of The White Golden Retriever

It is well known that the Golden breeds have roots in Europe and Scotland as far back as the late 1860s. Goldens were originally breed by a British Aristocrat, Lord Tweedmouth, who mixed a yellow-colored Retriever with a Tweed Water Spaniel. Today, the Tweed Water Spaniel breed is extinct, but they were previously known for being enthusiastic retrievers used for hunting and calm, loyal dogs in the home. Their descendants continue to hold these characteristics. Though this cross breeding is where the Golden Retriever originated, there are now various colors of Retrievers that stem from this common ancestor.

  You will be asked to pay a rehoming fee of up to £500. All of our dogs are neutered, microchipped, health checked and have regular preventative treatment against worms and fleas. Those that rehome one of our dogs will be taking on all costs.

• Health

  Some of our dogs may have a health condition that requires ongoing treatment or certain restrictions in activity.

• Behaviour

  It may be that one of our dogs has shown some behavioural issues such as: positive and negative reactions, recall issues, separation anxiety, poor travelling or poor lead behaviour. Dogs may have received different levels of training some may not even have entered early training, so it is worth bearing that in mind too.

• Age

  Typical ages of withdrawal from guide dog training are 1-2 years, but we also see quite a few retired dogs needing homes.

• Breed

  It may be that we dont have what is perceived as a typical guide dog breed to rehome. As well as Labradors, golden retrievers and German shepherds, we also have Labrador x poodles, poodles, flat coat retrievers, crossbreeds and others.

• Commitment

  A dog must not be left alone for more than four hours in any 24-hour period. You must be able to meet the mental and physical needs of one of our dogs.
