Training And Exercising Your Goldador
This breed has an easygoing and eager to please temperament that helps make them highly trainable. Owners should start training early, from the time their puppy comes home.
The parent breeds have a long history as service dogs, bomb detection dogs, hunting dogs, and now therapy dogs.
Obedience classes will help create a well-mannered dog but also strengthens the bond between the dog and owner.
Since Goldadors grow to be large dogs, obedience is also important to prevent them from jumping up at your guests!

What Makes A Goldador Different
Because it is a hybrid breed, your dog will lean toward one parent breed or the other. This depends largely on genetics and how much Labrador or Golden DNA the dog has. However, there are a few things that are safe to assume about this breed.
First, you can expect your Goldador to be outgoing and extroverted. Both Goldens and Labradors love people and will quickly make friends with anyone they come into contact with. If you are out at a park or a sidewalk cafe, dont be surprised if your dog befriends total strangers.
You can also expect your Labrador-Golden Retriever mix to be fairly obedient once trained. Both Goldens and Labradors have high levels of intelligence, making them perfect working dogs. This is why you will see many disability assistance dogs of both breeds.
You can also guarantee that your dog will be active. As hunting dogs, both Goldens and Labradors love to be outside. You will need to spend at least 60 minutes a day with them. Their favorite game of all time is fetch and a tennis ball will become their new best friend. If you live near a lake or an ocean, take them down to the beach and toss the ball into the water.
You should be careful, though. When it comes to retrieving, both Goldens and Labradors can be overly enthusiastic. They will play fetch until they can barely walk home. Youll need to take care to make sure you dont work them too hard.
How Much Time Do You Have
Goldadors are companion dogs at heart. They give a lot of love, and they also need a lot of companionship. Because they develop such strong bonds with their owners, they can develop depression and anxiety if they are left alone for extended periods on a regular basis.
If you need to leave them alone for a day once in a while when traveling, your Goldador will probably be OK, as will your house. However, if you leave them alone at home several times a week while you are at work, they are likely to develop stress and anxiety over time. This can manifest in annoying and destructive behaviors like chewing, scratching, and digging.
As a general rule, dont get a Goldador if you will regularly need to leave them alone for more than six hours a day.

When Does A Goldador Stop Growing
Large breeds of dog grow more slowly than their smaller cousins, and thats not a bad thing. Goldadors tend to stop growing around 18 months.
The reason its a good thing that they grow slowly is that Golden Labs are prone to hip dysplasia. This condition causes the hip to not remain in the hip socket as its supposed to.
When a puppy grows too quickly, this joint isnt able to form correctly, putting the dog at a higher risk of developing it as they get older.
One of the most important things you can do for your Goldador puppy is making sure theyre being fed a proper diet as a puppy. They need to have foods that are low in calcium and high in glucosamine.
How Do You Train A Goldador
Goldadors are highly intelligent, so they will usually learn a new command after only seeing it a few times. They are also eager to please, so they do especially well with positive reinforcement training.
Positive reinforcement training means you reward the dog when they display the behavior that you are looking for, in turn teaching them that good things tend to happen when they give a particular response to that command.
It is best to avoid punishment when training any dog, as they often find it confusing and therefore dont learn what it is that they shouldnt be doing. For example, if you punish your dog when they pee in the house, rather than learning not to pee inside, they might just learn not to pee when you are around and start finding secret places in the house to do their business.
Punishment can also be especially problematic for Goldadors as they tend to be very sensitive. They can develop negative behavioral traits such as aggression when exposed to harsh punishment.

Training And Exercising Your Golden Retriever Lab Mix
Both the Labrador Retriever and the Golden Retriever come from strong working dog backgrounds.
As Retriever group dogs, the Lab and the Golden are both accustomed to a high level of daily activity and exercise and a high level of interaction with people.
This means that regardless of which parent dog your Goldador puppy may take after, you can count on bringing home a smart, eager, active and social pup who will need plenty of ongoing socialization and training from day one.
Your Goldador training regimen should include lots of exposure to new people, new places and new situations so your dog grows up to be a poised and calm member of the greater community.
Also, a word of caution: Goldadors will likely possess a strong prey drive because of their hunting and retrieving background, so you should be sure to keep other vulnerable family pets far out of harms way.
Golden Retriever Labrador Mix Health Problems
While mixed-breed dogs are generally healthier than their purebred counterparts, the Goldador is still prone to certain health problems that affect Goldens and Labradors.
The most common health problems seen in this mix are:
- Hip dysplasia
- Progressive retinal atrophy
The best way to avoid these issues from arising is to get your Goldador puppy from a reputable breeder. Make sure to check if both parents have clearances from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals for hips, elbows, heart, and thyroid. Additionally, ask the breeder to show you clearances from the Canine Eye Registry Foundation showing that the dogs eyes are healthy and normal.
This mix has an average life span of 10 to 15 years, so dont get one if you arent ready for a long-term commitment.

What Is A Black Lab Golden Retriever Mix
Its as easy as its name sounds! This dog is simply a puppy with one Golden Retriever parent and one black Labrador Retriever parent.
Since the genes for a black dog coat are dominant, many breeders hope that they will get black Goldador puppies when they breed with a black Labrador parent. But, first generation mixes like this are quite unpredictable. So, theres no real way of knowing exactly what traits puppies will inherit until they arrive. This applies to everything from a dogs appearance and general temperament, to their health and specific care needs. Which is why its so important to choose a reputable breeder that only breeds from the healthiest parent dogs.

Grooming A German Shepherd Chocolate Lab Mix
Grooming is what makes a huge difference in how your dog appears. It also makes sure that your dog is always healthy and looks clean. If your dog comes with medium size hair on their coat then it will always be recommended to get there HAIR brushed once in every 2-3 days. If you can, then you must brush their coat every day.
When A person brushes their dogâs coat, their skin releases natural oils over his whole body and make sure that their skin wonât get dry. Apart from that, brushing their coat regularly can prevent too much shedding. You should always look to brush their coat outside the home so that their hair wonât get spread all over your home and doesnât get collected inside.
Apart from that, it is also necessary to make the grooming experience fun and less painful for your dog. Most of the time, it has been seen that people often brush their tops coat against the direction of their growth.Always remember, brushing a dogâs coat against the direction of their hair growth can make your dog feel pain and that is not what you want I hope so.So, you should brush your dogâs coat in the direction of their growth as it will ensure that your dog feels any kind of pain while you will be brushing their coat.

Find A Quiet Place To Train Them
While puppy classes might be a fun way to socialize your Goldador with other dogs, its probably not the best learning environment for them. These dogs are easily distracted, so they need a quiet place to learn.
This video features a Golden Retriever, but it proves our point that these dogs are VERY easily distracted. Its one of my favorite videos on the internet. Enjoy!
What Is A Goldador Dog
Goldador puppies are a blend of two of the best family dogs out there: the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever. This combination results in a lovable and gentle dog breed that is perfect for almost any homeand lets not forget just how cute the Goldador puppies are!
Both the Golden and the Labrador were developed as hunting dogs in the 19th century. Spaniels had always been hunting dogs but marksmen began to need a new type of animal. They were specifically developed during the 19th century to love water, running, and retrieving.
Golden Retrievers are very gentle dogs. They recently caused a splash on the Internet for the Golden Retriever Challenge
Owners discovered that, if given an egg, these dogs would cradle them in their mouths until told otherwise. They would not drop, bite or harm the egg in any way. Other breed owners tried the same challenge but had no such luck.
This is just a testament to the calm nature of Goldens. They are loyal to their owners and will do almost anything that they are asked. They love people and are in pure heaven when they are being petted. Golden Retrievers are also easy to train.
Labradors are a little less gentle than Goldens. They are extremely active and playful and they will always want to go for a run or a swim. These food-motivated dogs wont hold an egg in their mouth without eating it and they are known for being a little rebellious.

Labrador Retriever Vs Golden Retriever Colors
The Golden Retrievers official breed name pretty much speaks for itself. But coloration at maturity can range from almost white to a rich dark golden red shade. Preference for color tends to lean towards one end of the color spectrum for a while, then swing back the other way.
At the time of writing darker shades of coat are coming back into fashion after a long time period where pale cream was in vogue.
Labrador Retrievers have three main coat colors: black, yellow or chocolate . Just like Goldens, the shade of fur in a Yellow Lab can very widely from palest cream to a deep rusty red. The darkest Yellow Labs are often called Fox Red Labs by their fans. Just as with Golden Retrievers the darker coats are becoming more popular, especially within the hunting community.
What Is She Like With Children And Other Animals
She is very good with everybody, children, other pets, and other dogs. Socialization and training help with this of course but she is naturally a good natured dog usually. When she is young she can be a bit energetic and clumsy so may knock over young children by accident. So supervision would be a good idea. Also teach the children not to pull at ears or tails and how to treat a dog with respect.

Training Labrador Cross Golden Retrievers
Training Labrador cross golden retrievers is interesting but in some ways challenging. Thats because, separately, a pure Labrador and a pure golden retriever will train quite differently.
Trainer Leanne says: You never know what you are going to get because it all depends on whether they are more like a Labrador or more like a golden retriever. Golden retrievers tend to be a bit more sensitive and cuddly whereas the Labrador tends to be more motivated and keen to learn. If you get the right mix then you get a cuddly dog that loves you as much as it loves working, if not you end up with a highly intelligent dog that will out smart you to get food.
As a trainer its great if you get a cheeky clever one. You always have to be one step ahead of them as you can very easily teach them bad habits, but equally its nice if you get a cuddly one. If you want a fun, playful dog with a cheeky personality and love training then this breed may be for you.

Are Golden Labs Hypoallergenic
No, Golden Labs are not hypoallergenic. In fact, they tend to shed a lot, which means having one around is bad for anyone with dog hair allergies, and they can also be problematic for anyone who suffers from serious asthma.
If you are looking for a hypoallergenic breed, it is better to consider a Labrador mixed with a poodle, a Labradoodle, or a golden retriever mixed with a poodle, a Goldendoodle. This is because poodles have a wiry low-shedding coat that they often pass along to their children.
Poodles are just as intelligent and companionable as Labradors and Goldens, so when you mix them together, you tend to end up with a similarly loyal and intelligent pup.

The Lab Golden Retriever Mix has an active temperament so they might get destructive if they get bored. It is recommended to exercise them at least 2 hours daily. Getting them to do physical activities every day will help keep him happy and healthy.
However, if you dont have the time to do at least 2 hours of exercise daily with them, then hiring a dog walker might be convenient.

Are Black Lab Golden Retriever Mixes Friendly
Both parents of this Goldador mix are known to be friendly, energetic, and loving. Especially toward their close families. Generally, when they are well socialized as puppies, they will get along very well with everyone they meet. This includes other pets and even young children. However, since they are quite large dogs, they can accidentally bump and hurt young kids during play.
Labs Vs Goldens: Health Tests
Both Labrador and Golden Retriever parents should have good hip and elbow scores, be PRA clear and have eye tests of less than a year old.
But Golden Retrievers can also suffer from higher rates of cancer, for which there are no health tests.
However when considering Labrador Retriever vs Golden Retriever puppies, you can search for older Golden Retriever parents, and find a breeder who can provide veterinary proof of a lack of family history of cancer.
You will also want to check for family history of heart problems with the Golden Retriever parents.
