Long Time Dallas Golden Retriever Rescue To Close

GRRNT Puppies Petal and Blossom Go For a Walk

For 30 years, Dallas Fort Worth Metro Golden Retriever Rescue helped homeless Golden Retrievers in the Dallas area find their way to new homes.

Last month, the Dallas area rescue

The mission of DFW Metro Golden Retriever Rescue mission was to promote the rescue, care, training, evaluation and placement of abandoned or unwanted Golden Retrievers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The rescue also promoted appreciation, care and placement of the breed to the general public through education regarding responsible pet ownership.

Dallas Fort Worth Metro Golden Retriever Rescue began helping Goldens in 1984 as part of a committee under the Dallas Fort Worth Golden Retriever Club. It became a standalone group in 1988. In 2005, DFWMGRR was nationally recognized for its work in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which struck Louisiana.

DFWMGRR is one of three Dallas area rescues dedicated to helping Golden Retrievers. The Rescue Board said in an email to supporters last month that it will now let other, newer Golden rescue groups in North Texas continue the group’s work on behalf of Goldens. DFWMGRR has worked collaboratively with these other rescues for years and some DFWMGRR volunteers will now go on to volunteer with other groups.

I cannot imagine my life without these two dogs, and I am grateful to DFWMGRR for seeing the beauty and promise of two shelter dogs.

    Why Rescue A Shelter Dog

Because shelter dogs are full of love!

Is it because they know you saved them and love you harder for it?

I can’t say for certain, but yes.

Jokes aside, there are three things all shelter dogs need to thrive in their new home:

  • Love
  • Patient
  • Training
  • Older shelter dogs, generally 1+ years old, may have experienced a lot of trauma, which often results in one of 8 common behavioral issues:

  • Anxiety
  • Leash reactivity & barrier-related aggression
  • Constant whining
  • These issues are correctable! Your dog isn’t broken, they’re just damaged. You can fix them with enough love, patience, and a good training plan.

Other Ways To Find A Rescue Golden Retriever

Goldens picked up by these rescues arent the only ones who need a new home.

Another way to find a golden retriever that needs to be rehomed is by word of mouth.

And the best way to do that is through local Facebook groups.

Sometimes in these local golden retriever groups, people will post that their dog needs a new home.

So this is another way for you to find a rescue golden retriever.

And another way might be getting word from someone in a local golden retriever club

a Golden Oldie can enjoy playing and walking without the intensity and duration a younger dog will demand of you. You can finish your work day, take your silver-faced, tail-wagging companion for a stroll around the block – and settle down together for a quiet evening. No strenuous running-jumping-tumbling-throwing-tugging required at the end of your day.

    A Lasting Golden Legacy

GRRNT Puppies Petal and Blossom Sitting – Compilation

A legacy today provides a lifetime of tomorrows for our retrievers.

As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we ask that you celebrate both our past and our future with us in one of two ways.

    1. Consider gifting GRRMF either in your will or as part of a living trust. Known as a charitable bequest, this gift serves as a lasting legacy in your name, in your honor and is easy to set up. Simply name GRRMF as a beneficiary as you would a person and let your estate planning advisor assist you when preparing your will or trust.

    2. Because 2021 is our own Golden Legacy Year, we ask that you consider making a special Legacy donation in honor of our medical/behavioral programs, our new Hearts of Gold program or our forever home Sanctuary program to see your donation dollars at work.

Historically, and on current trend again this year, we invest over $200,000 in medical and behavior support care for dogs arriving in our rescue. We would not be able to achieve the rehabilitation success of these precious dogs without your support.

Our Hearts of Gold Therapy team, launched in 2019 as another GRRMF community service program, visit such diverse facilities as schools and universities, seniors residences and nursing homes, providing gentle support to anyone in need of comfort and reassurance.

A message from the Board of Directors of DFW Metro Golden Retriever Rescue:

Dallas Fort Worth Metro Golden Retriever Rescue wishes to let everyone know that as of July 15, 2015 we are no longer acting as a rescue organization. We are happy to report that after 30+ years of dedication to the Golden Retrievers in Texas and literally thousands of dogs that have been enriched by adoption through our Rescue we can step back and let Golden Retriever Rescue Alliance, Inc. handle the responsibility going forward. This group has worked side by side with us for many years doing the great work of Rescue in the DFW Metro Area and after September 15th, 2015 will continue the great work we started.

With kindest regards, and humble thanks for your commitment to the dogs,Board of Directors DFWMGRR

When DFW Metro disbanded in 2015, they asked GRRALL to take on the responsibility of caring for any of their adopted dogs in need of help. This means that any adopter from DFW Metro who can no longer care for their dog can contact GRRALL and we will assist in finding that dog a new, loving forever home. If you are in need of that help, please fill out our Surrender a Golden form and indicate that your dog is from DFW Metro.

    Why Should You Adopt

Golden Retriever dog for Adoption in FORT WORTH, TX. ADN ...

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

How Can We Be So Sure

One of our jobs is to watch our dogs carefully while an adoptive bond is forming. Again and again, as our Oldies are chosen, we’re very certain we see understanding and relief and gratitude in their sweet and hopeful faces when new adopters say, by word or with a gentle touch, “You’re safe now, and you’re on your way home.”

If You Have A Busy Demanding Life

a Golden Oldie can offer easy adaptability to the ebb and flow of your household, tolerance of changes in your schedule, and a long attention span with a tight focus on your instructions and behavior preferences. Most senior animals are beautifully housebroken and are well past the slipper-chewing and rummaging-in-the-trash stage of life!

If You Just Need A New Best Friend

a Golden Oldie will have had enough life experience to appreciate the comfort and affection you can offer. Our dogs know about the heartbreak of loss, the fear of abandonment, the anxiety caused by pain or hunger – but what they know best of all is how to banish human loneliness with an affectionate lick or a gentle wag.

Meeting Between Approved Applicant And Available Dogs

All of our dogs live in private/volunteer foster homes until adopted. We do NOT arrange meetings between interested individuals and our dogs until an applicant has been approved via this adoption process.

Once you are approved to adopt from TSBR, our adoptions team will connect you with dogs in our program that meet your criteria, or we believe may be suitable for your family and lifestyle. You will receive an e-mail with contact information for the appropriate foster home . You may contact the foster at this time to confirm availability/status, ask questions, and determine if you would like to schedule a time to meet the dog. Please keep in mind that our foster families are volunteers with families, pets, jobs, school, and obligations of their own in addition to their volunteer commitment.

Foster families are the backbone of our organization they have the best understanding of temperament, personality, and the individual needs of the dog in their home. Frequently, dogs in our program have numerous families interested. Under the guidance of our adoptions and animal welfare teams, the foster family has a rewarding and challenging role of helping choose a home they feel is most suited. Many of our foster homes may want you to meet the dog in a neutral environment and then will want to bring the dog to your home for a visit, ask questions, allow you to visit and see how the dog responds in your home environment.
