Golden Retriever Rescue What You Need To Know Before Adopting A Golden Retriever

If you are considering adopting a golden retriever, it is important to check the background of the possible owners first. You should not automatically assume that because one person loves dogs that they will be good owners.

There are many different reasons why dogs may get adopted and then later on removed from the household. People may lose their jobs or have other commitments that keep them from being able to care for a dog as much as they would like. Sometimes a dog may end up in a foster home or with a family that has more children than they can care for.

Another reason that some golden retrievers end up in shelters or other places is that their owner were unable to find a good home to live in.

That means that they were left without a home and some owners have been known to leave their pets in parks, backyards, and unlivable areas. Golden Retrievers are wonderful animals, but they require a lot of special attention and care. If you dont love them, you may not be willing to give them the time and effort that is needed to properly care for them.

Buddy The Golden Retriever

The Lexus Project, based in New York, often gives pro bono legal defense for greyhounds and other canines that have gotten a raw deal. Recently, they took up cause for Buddy, a Golden Retriever. Buddy had gotten loose from his owner’s home in Connecticut and gotten into a scuffle with several other loose dogs at the beach. A person intervened and was bitten by one of the dogs and although it could not be confirmed that he actually did it, Buddy took the wrap. This is not an unusual scenario when dogs are fighting. Anyone trying to separate fighting dogs runs the risk of getting bitten since dogs get all-consumed with the fight they are in. Anyone that attempts to break up a dog fight, even if it involves their own dog, must consider that risk. The powers that be in Connecticut held poor Buddy in solitary confinement for 11 months. He was sentenced to death and although we have never fully gotten all of the details, we know that The Lexus Project went into court as well as put media scrutiny on the Connecticut township. Because the township did now want the negative press, Buddy was freed!

Initially, no one knew how Buddy would come out of solitary confinement, if his head would be turned around backwards and he would have psychological issues. We had worked with The Lexus Project previously and since we have our kennel and clinic facility, we offered to give Buddy medical care, free of charge, before he was moved on to foster care in Florida.

The first is to scour your local animal shelters.

Yes, this is a long shot, as most Goldens will probably get snatched up right away, but its possible.

Plus, you might even find another dog that steals your heart there!

The next option is to get active in your local Golden Retriever Facebook groups.

Ive seen many Golden Retriever owners post in local groups looking to find a new home for their pup.

Often, these dogs are great dogs, the owner is just moving or having financial or time issues that make it difficult to keep their Golden.

The final way to find a Golden that needs your home is to get active in your local Golden Retriever Club.

One of the members in the club may know about a Golden who needs your help.

This is another long shot, but the more Golden Retriever lovers you know, the more likely you are to find a Golden of your own.
