Colin, a cross-breed of a golden retriever and a stander poodle, runs across the backyard of Joshua’s House in Lecanto. Those who work at the rescue say this animal has a calming effect on other animals that live on the property.

Joshua’s House Golden Acres in Lecanto is a rescue home for many dogs, primarily golden retriever or cross-bred dogs like golden doodles, that have been injured or rescued in other parts of the world.

LECANTO, Fla. A Citrus County dog rescue group is caring for two golden retriever dogs that were rescued in Turkey and then transported to the U.S.

Joshuas House for Golden Retriever Rescue in Lecanto is caring for Ben and Noah who arrived last week. Joshuas House has found a permanent home for Ben. The organization is still looking for Noahs fur-ever home.

Joshuas House spokesperson Ellen Pavlick said the rescue group is very diligent when it comes to finding the right permanent home for their dogs, applicants are thoroughly screened which includes a house visit. The biggest thing is finding the perfect fit, said Pavlick.

The non-profit is making arrangements to receive four more dogs in April or May.

Joshuas House is one of the Florida rescue groups that are helping to recover golden retrievers from Turkey and bring them back to the United States.

Experts say golden retrievers used to be a status symbol in Turkey, but only puppies are considered valuable, meaning many dogs are put in the streets or left in the woods.
