Trained Golden Retriever Puppies: Training Philosophy
No Painful Corrections
We do not use painful corrections with these young puppies. Instead, we divert their attention from undesirable habits. We provide them plenty of exercise. We control their environment so that they have no choice but to behave themselves. They learn quickly that if they want attention, they must behave on our terms. This method of training works far better than punishment based training. However, it takes time for bad behaviors to extinguish themselves. By 10-11 weeks of age, hardly any of our puppies mouth us. Jumping is minimal when one-on-one with individual puppies. However, at this young age, they are still figuring out what is acceptable and what is not. Controlled Environment to Set Puppies Up For Success
We provide a very controlled environment. This sets these young puppies up for success rather than giving them all sorts of temptations. We dont want there to be temptations calling for punishments. Its not fair. Further, it doesnt work as well as our method. Our philosophy of training embraces the idea of not adding difficulty to an exercise or temptations for bad behavior until habits of good behavior are firmly established.

Now training our 5th generation golden retriever, we are driven by that passion to develop and preserve a 150 year old breed that has been a part of our family since 2005. The targeted result of our program is a well tempered, versatile, health tested golden retriever, suitable for: Hunt Tests, Field Trials, Hunting, SAR, Service, Therapy, Outdoor Enthusiasts and Active Families.WM Farms breeder program stays current about the genetic and health challenges that affect the Golden Retriever breed worldwide. Genetic mutations are dynamic. WM Farms breeding stock are medically and behaviorally screened through genetic testing and daily field training scenarios. Knowing there is risk involved with breeding animals, especially those with existing inheritable traits, like goldens, WM Farms select pairs based on multiple criteria. Our primary focus is based on pedigree, temperament, health and working usage. Including COI research and statistically allele pairing diversification.We don’t “Farm Out”, “Loan” or participate in “Guardian Dog” breeding programs. We believe the only way to know what you’re producing is to train and work with your dogs.Whether at home or in the field, our dogs, are family.

We work with each of our trained puppies on the following commands: Sit, Down, On, Off, Right Here, Kennel, Lets Go, and This Way to build a foundation for becoming a trained puppy. We work on walking nicely on a leash, providing us with a loose leash, spending time in the crate, and socialization and introduction to strange objects like boxes, trash cans, umbrellas, etc.

Puppies are also introduced to Wait and Stay. We start teaching puppies manners that include not jumping up on people, and not chewing on our hands. Many of our Golden Retriever puppies love to play fetch and are introduced to learning proper fetch We use the clicker and during the training process and then fade them out using commands only as the puppy becomes consistent in knowing them. They are familiar with the grooming table, brushing, nails trimmed, and having ears cleaned. We work on the housebreaking process, and none of them have had an accident in the house in a few weeks, as long as they are taken out on a consistent, routine basis by the time they go to their new family.

About Our Trained Puppies
These puppies are considered STARTED on training
Just like children in Kindergarten and Elementary school, they will not be thoroughly trained and dependable on commands until fully matured. While puppies do well with all the above commands, they will need continued training and practice to master the commands. At this young age, they can lapse and have setbacks. Puppies are like children in having short attention spans and need continual reinforcement of commands, consistent, patience, and love. It is important to remember that puppies do not all learn at the same level, and some will be more proficient with their training than others. Puppies also have different personalities, and some love to learn, and others are a bit lazy and take longer to understand and achieve training goals. The puppy determines the level of training and the depth of mastering achieved. We will provide a video showing where they are with their training, and a list of commands we have used, to help you continue with their education and training. A Good Home Is A Must
We are very selective about where our puppies go. Our puppies must go to homes with people who have time for a puppy. We wont place a puppy in a home where a puppy will be left alone for most of the day. We cannot send a puppy to a home where he or she wont receive hours of attention every day. An Exception To The Rule During This Covid
, we have no issue with using preliminary OFA findings of at least a Fair, Good or Excellent.
Therefore, request copies of the OFA hip, elbow, heart and eye clearances for the sire and dam of any litter or puppy that is offered for sale. A reputable Golden Retriever breeder will be able to produce the OFA certificates or reports from a board certified radiologist, board certified cardiologist and a board certified ophthalmologist.
Pricing And Pick Up Options
The price for the training for our three training programs is on our puppy questionnaire. The price of puppies is due when puppies are 5 weeks of age . Training fees must be received by us at least two weeks before puppies are picked up or they must be paid by cash or certified funds.
There will be an additional charge if your puppy needs a health certificate. See our Payments and Policies page for more information. As of the end of June 2022, to our knowledge no airline requires a health certificate for in-cabin flights. Delta required a health certificate for in-cabin travel for a part of 2018. However, they have now reversed that policy and no longer require one. Keep in mind, though, that airline requirements are changing daily. Please consult your own airline. Make sure that whoever you are speaking with understands that you are asking about in-cabin travel. All airlines require health certificates for travel underneath. We dont see our puppies off that way. They must travel with their families in the cabin.
Trust the answers you get online. They are the official answers. MANY employees giving out information over the phone are unfamiliar with pet policies. Call and get one answer from one employee. Hang up and call again and chances are good youll get a different answer from a different employee.

We have done well with our older dogs in the conformation ring earning a wide variety of impressive titles. However, all of our dogs are still beautiful and they come from long lines of conformation champions.
