These dogs are not yet ready for adoption but are anxious to introduce themselves to AGaGs website visitors! All of the dogs are currently in foster homes while their needs are being addressed by their loving foster parents and the expert help of our veterinarians.
Some dogs have medical conditions ranging from ear infections to being heartworm positive some are fearful due to their prior living conditions all are seeking a stable place to adjust to their new situations. Stay tuned as these dogs complete their journeys through foster care and become ready for their forever homes.

After we review your information, an SGRR volunteer will contact you within a few days to discuss the application and adoption process and to answer any questions you may have. SGRR is an all-volunteer organization and your patience is appreciated.

Each Golden entering our adoption program is given a wellness check by one of our partner veterinarians prior to being adopted. As such, they are spayed or neutered, brought current on vaccinations, tested for heartworms & tick-borne disease, microchipped, and started on monthly heartworm preventative. While every effort is made to identify and treat any medical condition that may be present, no health guarantees are provided after adoption.

We understand that not everyone wants a young, baby puppy. For this reason we try to keep a puppy from each litter to train and sell as an older, trained puppy.
Our trained puppies are usually anywhere from 10 to 16 weeks old. They are crate/schedule trained. When asked they will sit, down, stay and come when called. Our puppies go home with an introduction to basic obedience and a great foundation to build upon.
These puppies come with two to four sets of shots, depending on their age. They are kennel club registered, vet checked, microchipped and wormed multiple times. And they come with a health guarantee.

What Are The Golden Retriever Colors
The breed was first considered to be a yellow variety of Flat-Coated Retrievers but was recognized as a separate breed, the Yellow or Golden Retriever, in 1912. A few of these dogs had come to America by way of Lord Tweedmouths sons by 1900, but the AKC did not register them as a separate breed until 1927.

Why On Earth Would Anyone Want To Adopt A Rescued Golden Retriever
After all, arent they like used cars? Who wants someone elses problems? If the dog is so wonderful, why would anyone give him away? If he was a stray, why didnt someone try to find him? Id rather buy a golden puppy so I know what Im getting, and besides theyre so cute!
Golden rescues often hear a variation of this conversation. Many prospective golden owners are just not convinced that owning an older pre-owned golden is better than buying a puppy. But there are a number of reasons why adopting a golden retriever from a rescue that carefully screens and evaluates its goldens can provide an even better alternative.
Unfortunately, many folks think dogs that end up in rescue are all genetically and behaviorally inferior. But, it is not uncommon for us to get $500-1000 dogs that have either outlived their usefulness or their novelty with impulsive owners who considered their dog a possession rather than a friend or member of the family, or simply did not really consider the time, effort and expense needed to be a dog owner.
Not all breeders will accept returns, so choices for giving up dogs can be limited to animal welfare organizations, such as rescues, or the owners trying to place their own dogs. Good rescues will evaluate the dog before accepting him/her , rehabilitate if necessary, and adopt the animal only when he/she is ready and to a home that matches and is realistic about the commitment necessary to provide the dog with the best home possible.

Great discipline and a gentle spirit make the Golden Retriever a perfect retrieval breed since the goal of this task is to bring the trophy back as undamaged as possible.
If you are not the sporting type, bringing a Golden Retriever into your family as a pet is just as rewarding because they are one of the most loyal and jovial breeds out there. Highly trainable because of their good intelligence and desire to please their owner, the Golden Retriever is an ideal dog for any owner. They are somewhat mouthy at times, so breaking them of that early is recommended. Obedience training is always a good idea for any owner of a new puppy.
Saying the Golden Retriever is a friendly breed is an understatement. They are good with strangers, tolerant with young kids, and good with other family pets. Taking your Golden Retriever to the dog park will be an enjoyable experience as he will want to play friendly games of keep away with the other dogs!
With good bloodlines, the Golden Retriever is a healthy breed. The main concerns with this breed are dysplasia of the hips and elbows, and canine cataracts. Check with your breeder to find out the history of the parents.
