Our English Cream Golden Retrievers have a beautiful white or cream-colored coat that make them stand out from other Golden Retrievers. While some Golden Retrievers may have a lighter coloring, English Cream Golden Retrievers are specifically bred to have a white coat but have the same features you love about Golden Retrievers.
English Cream Golden Retrievers Have Blocky Heads
Yes, most English Creams do have blocky heads.
They also typically have wavy coats, wider muzzles, and stockier bodies.
Other golden retrievers can have these physical characteristics, too, but they may also have slimmer, more athletic bodies, a range of coat lengths and color, and narrow or wide muzzles.

Going hand-in-hand with that, The Golden Retriever Club in the UK, which determined the standard for the breed, was located in England. People from around the world ended up referring to this standard as the English Breed Standard.
With these two strong English titles passed down over the years, it is no wonder why people incorrectly call them English Golden Retrievers instead of British Golden Retrievers.
However, something to note is that English Golden Retrievers are known as Golden Retrievers in the UK, while Americans call them English. Calling them English categorizes them from their American Golden Retrievers that have slightly different characteristics.

This Dog Eats Three Meals Every Day
There is not a lot that the English Cream Golden Retriever dog does not enjoy!
Like other Retrievers, these dogs are not fussy in what they eat, preferring instead to gobble up anything they can get their cream-colored paws on!
Whatever owners choose to feed, it should be between 2 and 3 cups of high quality dog food. This should be split into three or two meals each day .
Whatever you feed, it should contain around 30% protein, 12-18% fat and 30-35% carbohydrates.
When it comes to treats, try to feed healthier treats such as dog safe fruits and vegetables, as opposed to calorie filled over the counter treats.
This breeds diet works best if you follow the 80/20 rule.
Feeding 80% of your dogs calories in their main food source and making up the remaining extra 20% with treats.
Some owners recommend feeding bones as a form of dental hygiene.

What Different Countries’ Kennel Clubs Say About Cream
Both Canada and the U.K. accept a broader range of coat colors within the golden retriever standard than the American Kennel Club does.
U.S.
According to the American Kennel Club website, the standard coat color of the golden retriever is a “rich, lustrous golden of various shades.” The club further adds that the “predominant body color, which is either extremely pale or extremely dark, is undesirable. Some latitude should be given to the light puppy whose coloring shows promise of deepening with maturity.”
Canada
On the other hand, the Golden Retriever Club of Canada seems more inclusive of pale dogs. They state that “the acceptable range of colour in the golden retriever is broad. While a medium gold is always correct, coat colour can range from cream to a darker coppery gold.” The Club adds that as long as specimens are within this color range, they should be judged equally.
U.K.
The Kennel Club of the United Kingdom seems to agree with the Canadian club’s standard when it comes to cream coats. It accepts a golden retriever that is “any shade of gold or cream, neither red nor mahogany.”

An English Cream Retriever will love the water and is more than happy to jump into the river to fetch their ball or to go for a swim with you in the waves. Taking them to the beach or river for the day to play, sniff, swim, and run will do them a world of good.
Here are a few other physical exercises that you can try with your dog:
- Playing fetch: This is a task that your English Cream Golden Retriever will love and excel at! It gives them a lot of exercise without putting too much strain on you.

English Cream Golden Retrievers Are Not From England
No, most English Cream goldens youll find in America are not from England.
Just like French fries are not from France.
All golden retrievers originated from Scotland in the mid-1800s when Lord Tweedmouth bred a Tweed water spaniel and a yellow wavy-coated retriever.
Most American breeders of these goldens either breed dogs from here in the States or import their dogs from all over the world, including:
- Denmark
- The Netherlands
So how did English Cream goldens get their misleading name?
According to Bev Brown, the Kennel Club and the Golden Retriever Club, were the first ones to write up the breed standard.
And in the early 1900s, all dog shows in Britain were held in England.
So in America, we called the champions of those dog shows, English Champions.
The English seems to have stuck with goldens that look like the English champions in those days, so 100 years later were calling them English Cream Golden Retrievers.

English Cream Golden Retrievers Are Perfect Family Dogs
