English Cream Golden Retrievers Are Not Rare

English Cream goldens are rather common across the world and are becoming more common in America.

Dont let fancy names like, Rare White European Golden Retrievers, or, Exquisite Platinum Imported Golden Retrievers make you think that they are more rare or valuable than they are .

If a breeder is selling you on the fact that their dogs are rare, run away.

If theyre talking about how their dogs are healthy family dogs with good temperaments, then youre probably on the right track.

As far as how popular each color is, we did a study and asked 600 golden retriever owners what color their dog is.

Heres what they said:

Gold: 51.6%

Light gold : 31.5%

Red: 16.8%

As you can see, light gold, or cream-colored, golden retrievers are the second-most common color after gold.

How Much Do Cream Golden Retrievers Cost

Golden retrieversno matter their colorcost anywhere between $500 to $2,500, depending on the location, the reputation of the breeder, and whether the puppy descends from champion lines.

Adoption

If you adopt a golden retriever puppy with no health clearances or lineage documents, expect to pay around $500 or less. Anything above this range is a rip-off.

Pet Store

Depending on how reputable the pet store is and how well the puppy has been bred, the price can range anywhere from $500 to $1000.

Breeder

The cost of a healthy puppy from a reputable breeder will set you back $1,500 to $2,500. Dogs descending from champion blood lines will be on the higher end of this price spectrum.

Warning

It is a huge red flag when a breeder tries to advertise their Golden Retriever puppies as “white,””cream,” or “rare.” A reputable breeder will not advertise color, but rather health and bloodline.

Differences From The Golden Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever is regarded as a strong, solid dog that is lively and incredibly friendly. Like the White Goldens, the more traditionally colored Goldens are intelligent and loyal. However, Goldens differ from their light-colored, cream-colored counterparts in temperament category. While both shades are known for being friendly and good-natured, cream or white Goldens tend to be more laid back.

History Of The White Golden Retriever

Clair

It is well known that the Golden breeds have roots in Europe and Scotland as far back as the late 1860s. Goldens were originally breed by a British Aristocrat, Lord Tweedmouth, who mixed a yellow-colored Retriever with a Tweed Water Spaniel. Today, the Tweed Water Spaniel breed is extinct, but they were previously known for being enthusiastic retrievers used for hunting and calm, loyal dogs in the home. Their descendants continue to hold these characteristics. Though this cross breeding is where the Golden Retriever originated, there are now various colors of Retrievers that stem from this common ancestor.

White Golden Retrievers are the perfect dog for families and make the perfect family pet. Their calm temperament and sweet disposition mixed with their intelligence and loyal nature prove to be a combination that is easy to love.

English Cream Golden Retrievers

English Cream Golden Retrievers are becoming very popular all over the world. While there are many types and colors of Goldens, this version is very distinct with its light creamy color that makes it appear as if it is a White Golden Retriever.

While English Cream Goldens are very similar to the other types of Golden Retrievers, they do have a few characteristics that separate them from the American and Canadian Goldens. Below we will look at what makes them unique!

Brief History Of American Golden Retrievers

All Golden Retrievers, whether they are American, Canadian, or English, originated in Scotland in 1868 where they were used as superior hunting dogs by sportsmen. The first goldens were registered with the British Kennel Club in 1903. Back then, they were listed as flat-coat goldens. The breed didn’t become popular in the U.S. until the 1920s when anything British was cherished, including dog breeds. In 1932, the American Kennel Club officially recognized the breed.

What Is An English Cream Golden Retriever

English Cream Golden Retriever Puppy Training

The English Cream Golden Retriever is a variety of this breed. One of its principal characteristics is its thinner coat versus the standard Golden Retriever, but they are the same breed. What is remarkable about this dog is its light cream color. People breed these dogs mainly in the United Kingdom and Europe.

You may be amazed to know that the English Golden Retriever is not a rare or exotic variety. The variety is very popular and familiar in many households in Europe and the United Kingdom. At first glance, its light coat is one of the main differences that make it stand out from the American variety. But, the rest of its characteristics are pretty similar to the traditional Golden Retriever. Read on to learn more about this adorable, noble, and beloved pet variety.

The English Cream Golden Retriever is a variety of Golden Retriever with a much lighter coat. That is why people also call it the White Golden Retriever.

Apart from this difference in coat color, we can say that it has no significant differences with the American Golden Retriever. It is a dog with the same friendly character, reaches a similar size, and needs practically the same care.

Signs Of Maturity Phase

Training:

While this should be a well-engrained protocol by now. If basic obedience/performance titles have not been earned, now is the perfect time to focus on those. Working together becomes fun and enjoyable.

Growth Milestones:

By two years, the breed has usually finished growing, although males may take another year to put the finishing touches on their physical maturity, especially head development. In this stage, males and females who are not participating in Conformation should be neutered/spayed. This is around the time you should transition to an adult Golden Retriever dog food.

Maintaining breed standard weight may be tricky because of the caloric needs of adolescent energy. They may require more calories, but just as they are peaking with the need for more calories, their metabolism changes and weight management becomes a challenge.

Exercise demands continue to be high for this Olympic athlete. The personality and traits of the dog come into full bloom now, which may have gone underground during the previous stage. With a potpourri of emotional, physical, and mental changes in the first 1½ years, occasionally special personality traits take a hike. This is when the puppys head reattaches to the body just like a Rock em Sock em Robot, add Lewine and Cochran. But, dont despair, all of the pieces come together at the 2-year mark.

European Golden Retrievers Are Less Likely To Die From Cancer Than American Golden Retrievers

According to this study in Cambridge, 38.8% of golden retrievers from Europe will die from cancer, while, according to the Morris Animal Foundation, 60% of golden retrievers in America will get cancer.

Heres a quote in Vet Street about why this is the case:

When studied in a laboratory, the genes of American and U.K. Goldens are significantly different, suggesting that the risk of hemangiosarcoma is related to a relatively recent genetic alteration.

Are White Golden Retrievers Rare

English Cream Golden Retriever Puppies for Sale

No.Those who are looking for a “white” or “platinum” golden retriever will be disappointed. While some Goldens may appear very light in color, they are not actually white. The color white doesn’t genetically appear in this breed. Any ad offering “rare white golden retriever puppies” should be interpreted as a scam! Terms like “white,””platinum,””rare,” or even “English Cream” are marketing words used to trick buyers into paying more for an ordinary retriever with a lighter coat color.

A “white” golden is also frowned upon by both British and American kennel clubs. Any amount of light-colored hair is considered a fault and will be penalized.

English Cream Golden Retrievers Have A Wonderful Temperament

Many people think that English Cream golden retrievers are more good-natured than their American counterparts.

This depends on the individual dog, their pedigree, and how theyre raised.

If you want a sweet, well-mannered dog, look at the parents, not the color.

Remember, theres technically only one type of golden retriever, and goldens are typically friendly and good-natured, so talk to the breeder about their dogs, what they breed them for, and what the temperaments of their dogs typically are like.

If a breeder consistently produces sweet-tempered puppies, then no matter what the color, if you get a puppy from them theyre likely to be sweet-tempered as well.

English Cream Golden Retrievers Are More Expensive

The chances of your neighborhood breeder breeding English Cream goldens are less than the chance theyre breeding gold golden retrievers.

And since the neighborhood breeders are typically pricing their dogs on the lower end, while quality breeders are typically charging on the higher end, its safe to assume that, yes, you will pay more for an English Cream.

A Brief History On English Cream Golden Retrievers

Golden retrievers may sound like a single breed, but theyre split into two subtypes: American and English. American goldens and English goldens descended from English lines when imported from Canada, but the breed evolved and developed differently in America and Europe.

For example, English cream golden retrievers have a lighter, more white coat, a broader head, a stockier build, and a longer lifespan than their American counterparts. American golden retrievers are also more energetic and excitable than English cream golden retrievers.

But when did the golden retriever divide into American and English? You can trace it back to the late 1800s, after the labrador retriever was brought to Europe and began its import to the United States. Todays English cream golden retrievers are descendants of the gun dogs bred by Lord Tweedmouth in Scotland.

In 1868, Lord Tweedmouth mated a yellow wavy-coated retriever named Nous with a Tweed Water spaniel named Belle. Lord Tweedmouths goal was to produce a more robust dog than any other retriever that would be gentle and trainable.

In 1903, English cream golden retrievers were accepted for registration by The Kennel Club, but under the name Flat Coats: Golden. A few years later in 1911, they were officially recognized as part of the Retriever family and then were given its full name: the Golden Retriever.

Main Characteristics Of English Cream Golden Retrievers

The English Cream Golden Retriever is one of the most beautiful dogs youll ever see. Below is a list of the physical characteristics youll notice if you come across them.

  • This dog has a medium-large size. Its body is quite harmonious and very well proportioned. Due to its size, a dog needs to be in a house with enough space inside and outside.
  • It has a sizable structured head with a dip between the nose and forehead.
  • It has dark eyes with pigmented eyelid rims this gives it a very tame dog appearance.
  • The English Cream Golden Retriever has a lot of hair. For this reason, you should brush it quite often. This hair can be straight or wavy.
  • It has a very dense undercoat. This condition makes these dogs tolerate the cold and humid climates.
  • The different shades in the color of their coat can go from bright golden to a soft cream.

Are American Golden Retrievers Genetically Different From English Ones

Somewhat.

Even though American Goldens descend from English lines imported to the U.S. via Canada, the breed evolved and developed differently than its English counterpart because it was bred according to the American Kennel Club standard rather than the standard of the Kennel Club of the UK. Let’s take a look at a few of the differences.

Are Cream Or White

The color of the coat has nothing to do with a dog’s health. But ancestry could possibly have an effect on health.

  • There is at least a little evidence that, on average, English bloodlines are healthier.
  • A 1998 study found that 61.8 percent of American Goldens died from cancers, such as hemangiosarcoma, lymphosarcoma, mast cell tumors, and osteosarcoma, whereas a 2004 British Kennel Club Purebred Dog Health Survey for Golden Retrievers found that only 38.8 percent of Goldens from English bloodlines were affected by cancer.
  • Research also found that goldens from English bloodlines had an average lifespan of 12 years and 3 months whereas American goldens lived for an average of 10 years and 8 months.
  • This data does not necessarily mean that an English retriever is immune from cancer and will die only at a ripe old age.
  • There is plenty of anecdotal evidence of English retrievers dying from cancer and living shorter lives than expected.
  • The health of your dog will depend on good breeding lines not on whether it is English or American, cream-colored or toffee-colored.
  • The secret to health and longevity is ultimately a combination of nature and nurturegood genes plus optimal care by responsible owners.
