Show quality male golden retrievers should weigh between 65 and 75 pounds. Males should measure 23 to 24 inches tall at the withers, which is located on the back at the top of the shoulder. Female dogs should be slightly smaller, weighing in between 55 and 65 pounds. Females should measure between 21½ and 22½ inches tall at the withers. Dogs who are less than 1 inch taller or shorter than the breed ideal are penalized in a show situation. Dogs who are more than an inch taller or shorter are disqualified, according to the AKC. Both males and females should measure slightly longer from breastbone to buttocks than they do from the ground to the withers.

7:30 p.m.: Ahead of the group competition Tuesday night, the eight finalists in Westminsters Junior Showmanship competition performed for a crowd of thousands at Madison Square Garden. Johnathon Wehry and his cocker spaniel came out on top.

All eight finalists will receive a scholarship award of at least $500 depending on their placing. By coming in first place, Wehry will receive a $10,000 scholarship.

Wire Fox Terrier Wins Group Advances To Final Seven
10:20 p.m.: Vinny, a wire fox terrier, was named top terrier continuing the success of the breed at the Westminster competition. King, also a wire fox, won best in show last year.
All dogs presented in the terrier group known for being small, cute animals received strong applause from the crowd during their turns. While Vinny outlasted the 31 other terriers in his group, he received scattered boos from the crowd when he was crowned best of his group.

Differences Between An American Golden And English Golden Retriever
There are few differences between an American Golden Retriever and an English Golden Retriever. The reason these differences are seen is because of the way the Golden Retrievers are bred. Several different dog breeds were introduced by Scottish breeders into the mix to develop a Golden Retriever that we love today. The color difference likely comes because of the diverse genetic background of this breed.
American Golden Retrievers have lustrous, rich golden of various shades in their colors. On the other hand, an English Golden Retriever has cream like shades in their colors.
