Golden Retriever Puppy Growth Week By Week Pictures

This was the first time we had a chance to chart puppies from birth until 8 weeks old.

We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week.

When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around 7-8 weeks old.

On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition.

Our experience with puppies from birth to 8 weeks old was limited at best.

During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies, but both were already 3-4 weeks old by the time we got them home.

More recently we had the opportunity to meet Archers litter when they were 4 weeks old and then again at 6 weeks to do temperament testing.

Unless you get the opportunity to raise a litter of puppies its unlikely you will get to see much of the early stages of puppyhood.

The good news is Im going to share my pics and experiences with Ravens Litter from birth until 8 weeks old.

Labrador Golden Retriever Mix Training

Both the Golden Retriever and the Labrador are known to be very obedient, people pleasing dogs.

However, from thereon in, the smallest sized Golden Retriever male puppy is either the same size as the smallest sized female Golden Retriever pup or bigger than it.

Additionally, the largest and average sizes of the Golden Retriever male puppy are bigger than the largest and average sizes of the Golden Retriever female puppy throughout the growth chart except week 7 when the average and largest size of both genders is the same.

How Can I Tell If My Golden Retriever Is Slowing Down

Your dog is slowing down, the changes may be subtle, but you need to pay attention to how your dog gets up or lays down and uses the stairs. If your dog shows hesitation or has stiffness, or if a change in weather makes it worse, it could be a sign of early arthritis. Older dogs tend to sleep more and have less energy.

6-month-old Golden Retrievers are finally starting to look more like their adult counterparts and less like puppies. Usually, by this point, Golden Retrievers will weigh around 44 pounds. The smallest one may only weigh 22 pounds, however. Puppies can range quite a bit at this age. The bigger dogs are finally starting to be obviously bigger than the smaller ones.

After six months, the Golden Retrievers growth will slow down considerably. They wont be growing like puppies anymore. Instead, theyll enter their tween months. However, these dogs will continue growing for another year. They should continue their puppy food until that time, even though they arent really looking very much like the little puppy you probably remember.

Coat Color And Grooming

Golden Retrievers have a dense, water-repellent outer coat with a thick undercoat. Some coats are wavy, some are straight. The fur feathers on the back of the front legs and underbody, with heavier feathering on the chest, back of the thighs, and tail.

Golden Retrievers come in all shades of gold, from light to dark gold. Some breeders have begun selling “rare white Goldens,” but the American Kennel Club does not recognize white as a coat color for the breed.

Golden Retrievers shed moderately in the winter and summer, and heavily in the spring and fall. If you live with a Golden, you’ll need to adapt to a certain amount of dog hair in your house and on your clothes.
