Brief History Of American Golden Retrievers
All golden retrievers, whether they are American, Canadian, or English, originated in Scotland in 1868 where they were used as superior hunting dogs by sportsmen. The first goldens were registered with the British Kennel Club in 1903. Back then, they were listed as flat-coat goldens. The breed didn’t become popular in the U.S. until the 1920s when anything British was cherished, including dog breeds. In 1932, the American Kennel Club officially recognized the breed.

Are White Golden Retrievers Rare
No.Those who are looking for a “white” or “platinum” golden retriever will be disappointed. While some goldens may appear very light in color, they are not actually white. The color white doesn’t genetically appear in this breed. Any ad offering “rare white golden retriever puppies” should be interpreted as a scam! Terms like “white,””platinum,””rare,” or even “English cream” are marketing words used to trick buyers into paying more for an ordinary retriever with a lighter coat color.
A “white” golden is also frowned upon by both British and American kennel clubs. Any amount of light-colored hair is considered a fault and will be penalized.

The story begins years ago when GRRoW began to consider international rescue. In 2020, during a pandemic, we shared the experience with eight other rescues to bring 100 dogs to the U.S. from China. You can learn through the stories, of Sydney, Wendy, Wang Wang, Bei Bei, Bobby and Sunny that these dogs now have a second chance with new owners who are lucky to add them to their lives. Their owners and fosters are thrilled for the opportunity to experience something special and positive during such negative times.
GRRoW thanks the donors, fosters, fundraisers, transporters, coordinators, dog advocates and cheerleaders for these dogs. In this time of uncertainty, one thing is for certain: these dogs that came into GRROW are in their happy place.
International rescue is not for everyone, and we at GRRoW understand that. We continue to be available for EVERY dog that comes into our area. However, our adoption list continues to get longer. Our adoptions are occasionally closed due to the long wait.
We will continue to look at international options. We invite your support for our efforts by starting an international fund to use when these dogs become available to rescue. We have a generous donor who was so moved by the experience with the China dogs, he started the seed to start the international account. Golden Retriever Information: Temperament And Health
- They need a lot of exercisea couple of walks a day at the very least. They love outdoor activities, especially swimming.
- While active outdoors, they are also calm indoors, making them ideal family pets.
- They are easy to train. They are people pleasers and are extremely intelligent.
- They are one of the best dogs for kids.
- They are even-tempered, well-behaved, and extremely faithful.
- They are social animals. They can develop separation anxiety if left alone for long periods of time.
- They shed profusely, especially in the fall and spring. You must regularly brush them .
- They will need 3 meals a day as a puppy and 2 meals a day as an adult. Each meal should be around 1/3 to 1/2 of a cup of dry food.
- Golden retrievers are prone to cancer, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cataracts, and hypothyroidism.
- Before you get a Golden Retriever, make sure you are aware of the above traits and the care that Golden Retrievers specifically need.

We have puppies all over the USA: WI, MN, Illinois, Indiana, California, Alaska, Indiana, N.Y, and AZ. Our dogs come from champion blood lines.. These dogs are often referred to as “White Goldens” or ” English Cream Retrievers”, and have been featured many times on Jimmy Fallon as well as the movie Santa Paws. There are 2 major breed standards in the Golden Retriever world – one is the AKC and in the U.S. registry English Cream Goldens are registered as Golden Retrievers. However, in the KC the standard “English Cream Golden Retrievers” is the most common name given to the light colored European Goldens. The European Golden Retriever is a Golden Retriever with a boxier head and body, and light in color. The bottom line is that our English Cream Retrievers have the wonderful calm disposition of a Golden, with gorgeous looks – what more could you ask for as a family pet. We usually only have one litter /year. Our puppies are raised with love and undivided attention for 8 weeks. We do early neurological stimulation from Day 3 to Day 14, and then continued socialization and attention until they go to their furever homes. And full support from us for a lifetime. This Golden Retriever breeder is one of the newest on our list. However, this does not mean that Cream of the Crop Golden Retrievers is not a reputable breeder. This kennel is located on a large 30-acre property in Iron Ridge Wisconsin. They go into great detail on how they care for their puppies and adult dogs on their website. According to the AKC, golden retrievers are the 4th most popular breed in America, behind Labradors, French Bulldogs, and German shepherds.
This is great because theyre such good dogs and everybody deserves to have one.

Even though American goldens descend from English lines imported to the U.S. via Canada, the breed evolved and developed differently than its English counterpart because it was bred according to the American Kennel Club standard rather than the standard of the Kennel Club of the UK. Let’s take a look at a few of the differences.
Why A Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is a sturdy, muscular dog of medium size, famous for the dense, lustrous coat of gold that gives the breed its name. The broad head, with its friendly and intelligent eyes, short ears, and straight muzzle, is a breed hallmark.
