In 2012, we received a call that 24 Goldendoodles needed rescue after a nearby breeding operation was closed. We felt the only choice was to step in and help because these dogs were, after all, half our beloved breed. All quickly found homes, and their adopters were thrilled with their new canine family members.
Then greater and greater numbers of Doodles began arriving at our door step, and we decided to make Doodles part of our mission as well. There was a need for rescuing these dogs. That was a decision that brought a firestorm of criticism however, we are not breeding these dogs, simply helping those that are need of new homes.
Goldendoodles a cross between a Golden Retriever and Poodle are gaining in popularity, and that in turn generates demand that often leads to unscrupulous breeding and overbreeding. Of course, that results in unwanted dogs and the need for rescue.

Does A Goldendoodle Shed
- Low to Non-Shedding Coat: Most Goldendoodles have a small to no-shedding coat. To be noted, not all Goldendoodles have the Poodles hypoallergenic coat. However, they often have a coat that sheds considerably less dander than other dog breeds.
- Shedding Varies: Overall, the degree of shedding varies from dog to dog. As a result of having less dander, potential allergic responses may decrease.
- A Great Pet for Pet Parents with Allergies: Most Goldendoodles are light to non-shedding and live comfortably with families with mild allergies. Mixing With A Smaller Breed
The Poodle is a unique breed as they come in three sizes.
Standard Poodles stand over 15 inches and can weigh between 40 and 70 pounds.
A Miniature Poodle measures from 10 to 15 inches and weighs between 10 and 15 pounds. Toy Poodles are even tinier, standing under 10 inches.
They carry the same official breed standard and each dog has the same build and proportions. The only difference is their size.

Norcal Poodle Rescue California
Since its establishment in 1985, this California-based Goldendoodle rescue has already saved and rehomed more than 2,000 Doodles.
They take in the dogs that can no longer be supported by local shelters and owners. NCPR solely functions through the efforts of dedicated volunteer staff.
All of the Goldendoodles that are rescued by NCPR receive medical examination and treatment. Neutering, spaying, and microchipping are administered to ensure the healthiness of the rescued dogs.
Their behavior and temperament are also monitored before they are cleared for adoption.
The adoption fee on NCPR varies depending on the age and health status of the dog. Toys, minis, and mixes also have different adoption fees. In general, it ranges from $250 to $700.
The adoption process in NCPR is pretty much similar to other Goldendoodle rescues. An application form containing questions regarding the applicants lifestyle and preference should be filled out and submitted.

Somerset Cottage Poodle Rescue Virginia
SCPR primarily rescues and rehabilitates Goldendoodles, Poodles, Poodle mixes, Bichons, Maltese, Shih Tzu, and other toy breeds.
This non-profit organization was founded in 2013 and has since then rehomed more than 800 dogs. Most of the Doodles they take in came from high-kill shelters that can no longer support the dogs.
This Goldendoodle rescue adheres to a foster scheme and their volunteers across the Northern Virginia area take care of the rescued dogs.
All of the Goldendoodles in SCPR are complete with vaccine shots and have undergone deworming, flea and tick medication, spaying/neutering, and heartworm prevention.

History Of The Bernedoodle
Bernedoodles were first created in the early 2000s, following in the wake of the doodle craze that swept the world after the Labradoodle came on the scene in the 1990s. Although its possible the first Bernedoodles may have been the result of accidental breeding, a few breeders began intentionally crossing Bernese mountain dogs and poodles.
Purebreds have been bred for generations following a special blueprintthe breed standard, which is the written description of the ideal physical and temperamental traits of the breed. For this reason, purebred dogs are very standardized, with predictable height and weight, body structure, color, coat type, and temperament. Because the Bernedoodle is a hybrid and not a purebred dog, it is not recognized by any of the reputable purebred dog registries such as the American Kennel Club or United Kennel Club. The Bernedoodle also does not have an official breed standard, so there is a lot of variation in how individual Bernedoodles look and act. 5. Doodle Rescue Collective
The Doodle Rescue Collective Inc. is a volunteer foster based rescue comprised of a collective of registered volunteers nationwide. While they mainly focus on Goldendoodle and Labradoodle rescues they help all doodles in need including Bernedoodles.
This group is located in Warwick, RI, but they help doodles all across the U.S and Canada. They do this with the help of over 1,000 registered volunteers that can be found nationwide and in parts of Canada.
Doodles come to them in a variety of ways including owner surrenders, and working with shelters to identify doodles that need to be removed from the shelter environment. In addition to finding doodles in need they also foster these dogs until they find their forever home. The doodle rescue does not operate a shelter facility.
Once in the program Doodles are assessed and evaluated for general health and temperament. Doodles receive complete veterinary care as necessary, including immunizations, worming, HW testing and preventatives, flea and tick preventatives, spay/neuter and micro-chipping. How Breeders Breed Different Generations Of Goldendoodles
Successive generations of Miniature Goldendoodle puppies tend to be different from the preceding generation due to having other traits.
First-generation dogs are called F1 Mini Goldendoodle dogs, and they are results of purebred Poodle breeding with a purebred Retriever. The F1 puppies have 50% each of Poodle and Golden Retriever in their genetics. The F1 generation has a loving demeanor, with a hypoallergenic coat that is hairy and curly.
Second generation canines are called F1B dogs that result from crossbreeding an F1 dog with a Poodle. The F1B Goldendoodle puppies are 75% Poodle and 25% Retriever. F1Bs are popular due to their non-shedding type of coat. Likewise, they have the mild temperament and personality of F1s. They have coats that are short and curly or long. They may also have wavy fur and have more color variations.
Third Generation dogs are called F2 Goldendoodles, and are this generation has two F1 Doodles as their parents. The F2s are similar to F1s with a coat that sheds only lightly.
F2B Goldendoodles are multigenerational-mixed dogs with F1s and F1B as the most likely bloodlines. F2Bs are less common, but they have good health, personality, and non-shedding coat.
