All you need to know before adopting a Golden retriever ð? Puppy II All about GOLDEN RETRIEVER DOGII

Did you know that there is more than one type of Golden Retriever? Thats right and as a future owner of one of these bundles of sunshine, you get to choose the puppy that is right for you.

The normal Golden Retriever is a known for its gold or blonde coat, soft eyes and playful nature. But this breed also comes with the following additional variations.

Miniature Golden Retriever specially breed to be smaller than the normal Golden Retriever, the miniature golden is perfect for a family or owner living in a smaller space . They are not pure Golden Retrievers, mostly mixed with a poodle or some other smaller dog.

White Golden Retriever Also known as a very-pale Golden Retriever, the white Golden Retriever is gaining popularity for their snow-white coats. Watch out, any fur left behind will be more noticeable the lighter it is. Commonly found outside the USA in Europe, but are starting to become more frequent in local shelters.

Red Golden Retriever Easily distinguishable by their darker and red fur, the Red Golden Retriever is one of the more rare varieties of retriever.

Black Golden Retriever The opposite of a white golden is the black Golden Retriever. Their fur still has the same golden shine, but pitch black coloring that makes their eyes pop. We Did It Thank You For All That You Contributed

The story begins years ago when GRRoW began to consider international rescue. In 2020, during a pandemic, we shared the experience with eight other rescues to bring 100 dogs to the U.S. from China. You can learn through the stories, of Sydney, Wendy, Wang Wang, Bei Bei, Bobby and Sunny that these dogs now have a second chance with new owners who are lucky to add them to their lives. Their owners and fosters are thrilled for the opportunity to experience something special and positive during such negative times.

GRRoW thanks the donors, fosters, fundraisers, transporters, coordinators, dog advocates and cheerleaders for these dogs. In this time of uncertainty, one thing is for certain: these dogs that came into GRROW are in their happy place.

International rescue is not for everyone, and we at GRRoW understand that. We continue to be available for EVERY dog that comes into our area. However, our adoption list continues to get longer. Our adoptions are occasionally closed due to the long wait.

We will continue to look at international options. We invite your support for our efforts by starting an international fund to use when these dogs become available to rescue. We have a generous donor who was so moved by the experience with the China dogs, he started the seed to start the international account. Please consider this option in choosing how your donation dollars are spent.

Golden China Rescue Update

This is Golden. He’s an 8 year old saved from a slaughterhouse in China on January 20th. Half of his right ear was cut off to make dog ear soup. This dog has been through a lot and was rescued in a joint effort with China Rescue Dogs. When he arrived on May 12 in the United States, he was rushed to the emergency animal hospital with pneumonia and was nursed back to near full strength. He took a turn for the worse and it was discovered he has cancer and most likely needs a bone marrow transplant. At this point, he was too ill to fly in a regular jet and a private corporate jet needed to be found to fly him to our rescue and his waiting to adopt family in Ohio. Even if it is for a few hours, a few days, or a few weeks – we all wanted him to be with his true “meant to be” family. Thank God for non-profit Pilots N Paws who scheduled three different pilots and planes to bring GOLDEN to his family on May 29th.

Triad Golden Retriever Rescue North Carolina

Essentially, the goal of TGRR is to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide homeless Goldies with the humane treatment they deserve. This non-profit organization has been dedicated to fostering dogs-in-need across North Carolina including Greensboro and Winston-Salem.

Aside from providing shelter for unwanted Goldies, the organization also exists to turn their vision of a community that is animal-friendly into a reality.

They educate interested people about the proper and humane way of treating dogs and the ethical actions to become a responsible guardian.

In cooperation with other regional rescue groups, TGRR is open for long-distance adoption as long as the adoptive family meets specific guidelines and conditions.

To ensure the safety of the Goldies and the prospective adoptive clients, specific terms should be met. Most of which are identical to the conditions that other rescue centers require.

Some of them are fence requirements restrictions to families with children below five years of age and a proper shelter which excludes apartments and condominiums.

If you are planning to apply for adoption to TGRR, make sure that you have met the required terms and conditions to attain a higher possibility of getting approved.

However, you should also be aware that accomplishing the guidelines does not guarantee immediate approval of adoption as there are many qualified foster applicants on the waiting list.

What Are The Golden Retriever Colors

The breed was first considered to be a yellow variety of Flat-Coated Retrievers but was recognized as a separate breed, the Yellow or Golden Retriever, in 1912. A few of these dogs had come to America by way of Lord Tweedmouths sons by 1900, but the AKC did not register them as a separate breed until 1927.

How Much Is It To Adopt A Goldendoodle Rescue

Because Goldendoodles are very popular is it common to pay higher adoption fees for them. Adoption costs can range between $200 and $1000 to adopt a Goldendoodle. Getting your doodle from a local shelter will generally result in a lower fee since they may not have the dog vet checked. Rescue groups generally have the dog vet checked before rehoming which adds to the cost. Either way adoption fees are lower than the cost of a Goldendoodle from a breeder.

Pick A Puppy From A Litter Or Choose The Right Dog In A Shelter

I believe that this aspect not as important as finding a reputable breeder or shelter. There are mainly two reasons for this. First, a puppy bought from a reputable breeder is far less likely to develop expensive health issues or significant behavioral problems, two of the main things people want to avoid. The second reason is that a reputable breeder or shelter will be able to guide you when choosing your pet by knowing their animals and making sure to understand your expectations and goals. In that case, they will give you the best possible advice.

To choose a dog from a litter or shelter, look for a healthy and shiny coat. You should be able to feel the dogs ribs but not to see them. Eyes, ears, and genitalia should be clean and not inflamed. Get the dogs attention to test sight and hearing. Finally, pick one that will match your level of energy.

Its okay to pick a laid-back dog or puppy if you mainly want a low-maintenance cuddling buddy. In the same idea, choose a high-energy puppy or dog if you have a very active lifestyle. Although energetic dogs will require a lot of daily exercise and activity and will most likely need more training, they will be the perfect companion to go on many adventures with you.

Once you have your dog, dont forget to get a dog license . Check our new dog owner guide to know everything you need to get ready to welcome a dog home in a few minutes. Its a 5-minute read packed with helpful information for future and new dog owners.

Buying From A Pet Store Or A Puppy Mill

Golden Retriever Rescue 6/27/16

A large number of dogs bought from pet stores originate from puppy farms, also known as puppy mills, which are profit driven businesses that mass-produce dogs and sell through pet stores and classifieds.

In puppy mills, dogs are bred in appalling conditions, kept in overcrowded small wire cages, given little exercise or socialization, enjoy no human contact and receive nothing in the way of veterinary care.

The bitches are bred way too often, usually until they can no longer do so, and at which point theyre destroyed.

The puppies are usually taken away from their mothers and litter-mates at such a young age that behavioral issues in the adult dog are extremely common.

The dogs in puppy mills are no more than a commodity, a cash crop to be produced and harvested while spending as little as possible to maximize profits as far as possible.

Yes, many people have been lucky enough to have purchased the most glorious of family pets from a pet store, but for each one a lot of suffering has occurred for countless more.

I strongly advise that you do not support the puppy mill industry and never buy a dog from a puppy mill or pet store. The risks of not getting a quality, healthy dog are too high, and the ethics of the industry are shocking with many dogs suffering at their hands. Everybody should work to eradicate the entire industry and the first step is by not supporting them financially.

A Lasting Golden Legacy

A legacy today provides a lifetime of tomorrows for our retrievers.

As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we ask that you celebrate both our past and our future with us in one of two ways.

1. Consider gifting GRRMF either in your will or as part of a living trust. Known as a charitable bequest, this gift serves as a lasting legacy in your name, in your honor and is easy to set up. Simply name GRRMF as a beneficiary as you would a person and let your estate planning advisor assist you when preparing your will or trust.

2. Because 2021 is our own Golden Legacy Year, we ask that you consider making a special Legacy donation in honor of our medical/behavioral programs, our new Hearts of Gold program or our forever home Sanctuary program to see your donation dollars at work.

Historically, and on current trend again this year, we invest over $200,000 in medical and behavior support care for dogs arriving in our rescue. We would not be able to achieve the rehabilitation success of these precious dogs without your support.

Our Hearts of Gold Therapy team, launched in 2019 as another GRRMF community service program, visit such diverse facilities as schools and universities, seniors residences and nursing homes, providing gentle support to anyone in need of comfort and reassurance.

Nering With Goldens Without Borders Rescue

We’ve been asked to help four Labrador Retrievers who have been saved from a slaughterhouse in China by the Goldens Without Borders Rescue . Upon GWB’s arrival at the slaughterhouse, they discovered many Labrador Retrievers were there in addition to the Golden Retrievers they had been expecting. It didn’t take them long to realize they could not leave them behind. This decision exponentially increased the costs and resources of GWB which is why they reached out to fellow dog rescue groups such as ours for assistance. After some discussion, the board unanimously agreed to help GWB with this rescue endeavor which means these four dogs were able to hitch a ride to the states with their fellow rescued canines and they are now looking for their forever homes.

Are Golden Retrievers Expensive To Maintain

Golden retrievers can be relatively expensive to maintain, mostly because they are large dogs and, therefore, generally need to eat a fair amount.

They can also have steep medical bills when they get older as they are prone to a few medical conditions, such as joint issues and cataracts. You should probably expect to spend at least $1,000 a year maintaining a golden retriever.
