Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc. is that rescues and heals displaced, abandoned, and homeless and Golden/Labrador mixes through Northern California. Homeward Bound secures safe, loving, homes through a comprehensive program and also provides for Goldens who cannot be adopted. Homeward Bound provides education on proper animal care, and on the benefits of, and need for, rescue and sanctuary. Homeward Bound continues to serve as a model rescue organization, which addresses animal welfare needs throughout California and neighboring states. Due to HBGRR’s leadership in rescue, sanctuary, and education, all Golden Retrievers and other dogs will be well cared for, living in safe, nurturing, and loving homes. Each rescued Golden immediately receives a thorough veterinary exam. All of our Goldens will be spayed or neutered before an adoption can occur, all vaccinations are brought up to date, and each Golden is tested for heartworm. We rescue the old, the sick and injured Goldens as well as the young healthy ones. Some of these Goldens will have significant health issues and it is our responsibility to provide them with expert veterinary care prior to offering them for adoption.

New American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Preparation Class And Evaluation Advanced Certification
As with CGC, AKC Community Canine has a 10-step test of skills that dogs must pass to earn the official AKC Community Canine title. This is a title that appears on the dogs title record at AKC.
The goal of AKC Community Canine is to test the dogs skills in a natural setting. For example, rather than the dog being tested in a ring, in AKC Community Canine, the walks through a crowd test will involve the dog walking through a real crowd at a dog show, on a busy sidewalk, in a therapy dog setting, or at a training club.
The class is scheduled as needed, Sundays at Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of the AKC, CGC preparation class and passing the AKC, CGC evaluation.
When Should I Adopt My Golden Retriever
Most golden retriever rescues advise families to wait until their children are at least 7 years old before they consider adopting a golden retriever. In fact, many rescues wont adopt their dogs to families with younger children. An exception can be made only if you, the parent, have experience owning a large sporting dog.
If you dont have children yet but plan to have them in the near future, think long and hard about whether adopting a dog now is a good decision. If you meet all the other criteria for adoption, you have a better chance of adopting a puppy or adult golden retriever as a single or couple without children.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club Of Socal
Organized in 1961, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of SoCal has over 55 years of service to the Corgi. Their rescue program accepts all purebred Corgi and Corgi mixes. The dogs usually come into the rescue at three years of age or older. PWCCSC receives Corgis from high-kill shelters, strays, and owner surrenders. The rescue administers the proper medical attention, spays/neuters the Corgis, updates the Corgis on vaccines and places them in a suitable foster home.
In the foster home, the foster parents love and treat the rescue Corgi as family. The foster parents also test the Corgis for temperament to ensure that they can make a compatible match between your family and the dog. The adoption process is standard and can take a while. The rescue requests a donation of $100 to $300 based on the rescue Corgis age.

Whats It Like Owning A Golden Retriever
Golden retrievers make fantastic pets and companions to active people and families with children. Goldens are extremely social dogs that are known for being affectionate, loving, devoted, and loyal to their families. They are also very active and energetic dogs that love to play with their owners and be involved in all family activities.
As highly social creatures, goldens like to have company and dont like being left alone for long hours. When left to their own devices, they can easily develop separation anxiety and develop bad habits such as excessive barking, digging, or destructive chewing.

Golden Retriever Breeders In Northern California
November 4, 2020 by Garrett
Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular breeds worldwide, especially in California. This is due to their mild and loving temperaments as well as beautiful coats. In fact, according to the American Kennel Club , the Golden Retriever is the #3 most popular dog in the United States. However, its difficult to find a Golden Retriever puppy for sale in Northern California because there are so many breeders.
Finding reputable Golden Retriever breeders in Northern California can seem impossible. Arent all Golden Retriever breeders just puppy mills in disguise? No, they arent. There are reputable breeders that are responsible and care about the breed and adhere to the AKC purebred standards. This is something that we strive to make readers aware of. We also want to make the process of finding a reputable breeder easier.
We have done our own research and found five Golden Retriever breeders in Northern California that are reputable and seem to really love their dogs. If a breeder looked as though they could be a puppy mill, they didnt make it onto our list. However, make sure you ask questions and request a visit before you commit to a puppy. Breeding practices do change so youll want to make sure you can find someone who is trustworthy and will sell you a healthy puppy.

Inspiration Behind This Organization
About 12 years ago Mike and Jody’s Golden Retriever Chelsea was hit by a car. When they took Chelsea to the vet, the vet told them that the chances of Chelsea making it was not high. With those circumstances Mike told Jody if Chelsea makes it, we will rescue Golden Retrievers and dogs for the rest of our lives. They wanted to create a place where dogs can be given a second chance, where dogs can be surrendered if the owner can no longer care for their dog, and where dogs can be rescued from the shelter. That is how Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc. was created. Chelsea was the Golden Retriever that started it all for the Homeward Bound Golden Retrievers Rescue and Sanctuary. Homeward Bound takes in any type of dog, not just Golden Retrievers. Although the name portrays that they take in only Golden Retrievers they dont. Anyone can surrender their dog to Homeward Bound if they can no longer provide for it. Also they take in abandoned dogs and dogs from animal shelters to ensure that they do not get euthanized.
