They are so friendly, in fact, that they may not be the best bet when looking for guard dogs a Golden will usually greet any stranger, including during a break-in, with a welcoming smile on their face.
There Are Actually 3 Different Varieties Of Golden Retrievers
English Goldens are generally stockier with thicker fur. Their coat color is lighter than the other two varieties.Canadian Goldens are thinner, taller, and have a thinner coat than the other two varieties.American Goldens are thinner than the English variety, but have thicker fur than the Canadian variety.

Skilled Puppy Raisers And Skilled Trainers
In addition, our two primary trainers are extremely successful positive reinforcement trainers having titled over a dozen dogs in AKC obedience trials, put a CDX on four of them, a UD on three of them, and a RACH on two of them. Also, Karen our primary trainer has even earned the most advanced obedience title of all: OTCH. The OTCH is so difficult to attain that it takes most trainers a dogs lifetime to complete it. By far, most that try to earn it fail. Tara and Karen earned the required 100 points in less than a year and a half . AKC only awards the OTCH to less than a hundred dogs nationwide per year. There were less than 70 dogs to earn it nationwide in 2021.
Karen has also recently won Combined High in Trial at a regional event. There are eleven regions in the U.S. and this is where the best competitors in the country compete to earn an invitation to the National Obedience Competition, the most prestigious event in the country. This event, the NOC, happens only once a year.

We Do Not Accept Fci Hip X
We do not import dogs with FCI hip testing that was done prior to a year old. This has become a very common practice in recent years with the imports. These misleading FCI x-rays are done by a European breeders personal vet. Then these older puppies are imported to the U.S. and breeders in the U.S. post these results as final.
Hip dysplasia is prevalent in Golden Retrievers in both American Goldens as well as English Goldens. We retired over half of the dogs that we imported initially because the health did not meet our very high standard. It is our commitment to health as a first priority that has enabled us to now be in a position to have lines with truly good health. In addition, and most importantly, to date, in the almost 12 years that weve been breeding, we have yet to have anyone report that their puppy has hip dysplasia.

Nowadays, with so many options to buy your new dog, theres a growing problem you need to be wary of: the rise of puppy mills.
Puppy mills are dark and depressing warehouses where dogs are grown without love, exercise, and health care. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals , heres a summary of what you can expect from these awful places:
- Tiny Cages These cruel breeders maximize space by keeping everyone in tight conditions, often kept in outdoor pens that are unprotected from the elements or in tiny, filthy cages for their entire lives. They can even develop lesions and sores from having to stand on uncomfortable wire flooring. Sadly, its the only world theyll know as theyre forced to eat, sleep, relieve themselves, and give birth in these cages.
- Poor Healthcare These awful breeding facilities dont have veterinarian care instead theyre left to suffer through injuries and horrible health problems all on their own. Worse, because of their cramped, filthy conditions, diseases spread like wildfire, especially among puppies with weak immune systems.
- Constant Breeding Its unhealthy to force female dogs to breed often, but because these places are so focused on profit, these dogs are bred at every chance. This harms the health of the parents and can predispose their litters to more health and genetic defects.

S Of White Golden Retrievers
Not only is it fun to look at the range of Golden Retriever colors you can find, it can also be helpful if you are trying to think up Golden Retriever Names.
The very palest of Golden Retrievers can fairly be described as white. Did you know that most of the whitest Golden Retrievers are from what are referred to as show lines. Bred historically for the ring rather than the field, these Goldens are the exact same breed, but have a slightly different parentage.
Their sleek coats look amazing in the snowy shade. And their coats can have no sign of color other than a little bit of a dark tone to their ears.
As the shade moves more into cream than white, they are still very pale dogs.

Field Bred Golden Retrievers
Field golden retrievers embody what golden retrievers were originally bred to do: hunt.
Field bred goldens are on the smaller end of the spectrum as far as how big goldens get, theyre athletic, and theyre typically more driven than other styles of goldens.
Their coats are usually shorter and range from gold to red, and they have tons of energy.
They excel at hunting and agility, and make great family pets, as long as theyre trained properly and have a job to do.
They also may be rather mouthy, considering theyre bred to retrieve things with their mouth.
To be clear, field goldens are golden retrievers, theyre just a particular style of golden.
The opposite of field bred golden retrievers are conformation, or show golden retrievers

Finding A Golden Retriever Breeder
The first step is to do your research. Sadly, there are many puppy mills posing as reputable breeders along with plenty of online scams. Be aware, and reach out to different online forums for conversations about getting your future furry family member.
Be sure to ask questions, make arrangements to meet the parent dogs or mother, and follow your gut. If something seems wrong at a breeder you visit, or the golden retriever puppy seems too good to be true, theres likely something sketchy going on. The AKC also offers resources for finding a breeder, with fairly strict guidelines on who they let participate.

As legend has it, Lord Tweedmouth of Scotland wanted to create a hunting dog that could retrieve shot-down birds from both land and water.
His solution was to breed a wavy-coated retriever with a Tweed water spaniel, thus creating the first litter of golden retrievers in 1868.

How We Raise Our Puppies
For our upcoming litters, there will be four experienced adults working full time with our puppies. Our home is large enough for all puppies to be raised inside our home. We have six doggy doors to six different puppy play yards where older puppies freely live coming in and out of our home, almost a dozen fenced areas, and a total of nine acres fenced for our dogs and puppies.
