Golden Retriever Puppy Facts
Also known as Americas Sweetheart, golden retrievers are playful, loyal, and carry their puppy-like personality well into adulthood. Golden retriever puppies may be friendly, but they do need plenty of socialization and training to help prepare them for a well-mannered adulthoodwhen theyre much bigger, but still want to sit on your lap.
Adopting Golden Retriever Puppies
According to the AKC, most breed rescues report that a majority of their rescue dogs come from individual owner surrender, with the most common reasons being a change in lifestyle or the breed not being a good fit. This means that there may be many dogs and puppies out there that are looking for a new forever home.
The main difference between a breeder and a rescue is that a rescue may not always have young puppies to choose from. The benefit, however, is that most are mandated to only adopt out dogs that have been microchipped and spayed/neutered. This means you may end up with a dog thats already been housebroken, and doesnt need these common medical procedures. You may also find a golden retriever mix that has all the traits you want from the breed, but with a little extra thrown in.
Finding a golden retriever rescue can be as simple as searching the internet. The AKC also has an excellent list of golden retriever rescues on their site.

Dark Golden Retriever Pictures
Pictures of Golden Retrievers with nearly red fur can confuse some people who arent as familiar with the breed, into thinking they are cross bred. But pedigree Golden Retrievers can indeed be this deep shade.
Its more commonly found in working bred Goldens, who are also often slimmer in body shape and have slightly narrower faces.
These gorgeous deep coats are the same texture as their whiter counterparts. They also need the same level of grooming, especially after a day playing around in the snow!
And with that thick furry rug to keep them warm, who can blame them for wanting to stay out even when its cold!
English Cream Golden Retrievers
|Coat Length:||Short to Medium|
These dogs go by several different names. Some of the most common are English Cream, White Golden, or European Platinum. They get their name from the almost white color of their thick coats. Some say that these goldens are rarer with better temperaments, but coat color doesnt have anything to do with temperament. Their pedigree and the way they were raised will primarily determine their personality.
True English Cream Golden Retrievers have thick coats with blocky heads and stocky bodies, and they are more expensive than other types. Buying a Cream Golden Retriever needs to be done with caution, though, as some breeders use unsafe practices in order to achieve this distinct coloring.

Older Puppy Pictures Of Golden Retrievers
Bred for co-operation with their human partners, Golden Retrievers are very much family oriented. Wherever you go, they want to come too.
Which is fine when youre headed somewhere they can join in. But they might have a bit of a sulk if you need to leave them at home for half an hour when you pop to the shops.
But dont worry, by building up time spent alone youll soon be able to pop out occasionally without them batting an eyelid. Although its important to take them with you as much as possible.
To help socialize them to anywhere and everywhere they might need to go when they grow up! They will also need plenty of playtime. Goldies arent just lively pups, they are clever dogs too. And as such, they need training and activities to keep those big brains busy!
Tug games and fetch games are great fun for these intelligent retrievers.

This was the first time we had a chance to chart puppies from birth until 8 weeks old.
We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week.
When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around 7-8 weeks old.
On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition.
Our experience with puppies from birth to 8 weeks old was limited at best.
During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies, but both were already 3-4 weeks old by the time we got them home.
More recently we had the opportunity to meet Archers litter when they were 4 weeks old and then again at 6 weeks to do temperament testing.
Unless you get the opportunity to raise a litter of puppies its unlikely you will get to see much of the early stages of puppyhood.
The good news is Im going to share my pics and experiences with Ravens Litter from birth until 8 weeks old.
Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge!
Golden Retrievers Aren’t Just Golden
Even though they’re called golden retrievers, not all goldens have a yellow-gold coat. They can range from a very light, snowy white, to a yellow-gold, to a dark, coppery red.
No matter the color of their coat, however, it’s important to never cut your golden retriever’s hairdoing so can put her at risk of skin cancer, among other health issues. Their coats are made up of two layersthe long, silky, waterproof outercoat and soft, warming undercoatand act as insulators against all types of weather. So, if you think to trim your golden’s coat in the summer to keep it cool, think again! It’ll be much cooler and its skin will be protected from the sun with its coat intact.
As members of the Sporting Group, golden retrievers need lots of exerciseevery single day. Bred to fetch waterfowl, golden retrievers love a good swim session but would be just as happy with long walks, games of fetch, or even agility games.
Aim for about one hour of exercise each day, but keep your dog’s age and activity levels in mindyou may have to adjust accordingly.
