White Golden Retriever Exercise Needs

Reba UPDATE – English Cream Golden Retriever – Family Bred Puppies

White Golden Retrievers, just like any other shade, need plenty of exercise each day.

They are energetic dogs that love the opportunity to run and play. So, they can suit active families very well.

This breed will enjoy hiking with you, walking, swimming, and dog sports like agility and obedience.

Training can offer some exercise and mental stimulation. But, Goldens also need some time outside to run about.

As relatively big dogs with moderate exercise needs, they may not be best suited to live in small apartments.

How Much Does An English Cream Golden Retriever Cost

The platinum retrievers that are bred according to the United Kennel Club breed standard are still fairly rare and can be expensive. On average, a platinum retriever can cost between $1,500 to $3,500. However, the price of a puppy can vary from one breeder to the next and will depend on your location, breederâs reputation, and the pupâs lineage.

Annual Costs Of Owning An English Cream Retriever

Despite costing more to adopt, these dogs usually dont actually cost more to own. Their costs are very similar to other Golden Retrievers. This means youll be spending about $3,000 for the puppys first year. A large portion of this will be the supplies your puppy needs when you bring them home, such as a dog bed and bowl. Of course, puppies also need quite a bit of vet care and training as well.

For every year after this, you can expect to pay about $2,000. All preventative vet care is included in this estimate, as is food, toys, grooming, and other regular costs.

Origins Of The English Cream Golden Retriever

All Golden Retrievers, regardless of color, originated in Scotland.

Lord Tweedmouth set out to develop the ideal gundog. It was to suit the wet climate and rugged terrain of the Scottish highlands.

In the late 1800s he crossed a Yellow Retriever with the now extinct Tweed Water Spaniel.

Later, the Bloodhound and the Irish Setter were added to the mix.

Good Breeders Value Health & Temperament Over Color

The most important thing for any breeder is not looks or coat color.

It will be trying to improve the breed and produce healthy puppies for a purpose.

For most golden retriever breeders, that purpose is to produce puppies with a good temperament that make good family pets.

Yes, some may prefer one color or look over another, but that will not be their main focus.

Where Does White Come In

It can be challenging to try and visualize the diversity in the Golden Retriever coat color spectrum. So we invite you to visit this fun Golden Retriever picture gallery to see the range of different lovely coat colors that can occur in this popular dog breed for yourself!

Interestingly, according to both the UKs Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club Golden Retriever breed standard, pure white Golden Retrievers are not acceptable in the show ring.

White American Golden Retrievers and White English Golden Retrievers are considered a fault.

But, cream colored and darker Golden Retriever coat colors are acceptable.

The reasons for this distinction are not detailed in the breed standards. But it is important to be aware of this color restriction if you plan to show your Golden Retriever in the future!

Mental Exercise For Your English Cream Golden Retriever

English Cream Golden Retrievers need not only physical exercise but also mental stimulation. These dogs were bred to work and therefore strive off of tasks and challenges.

Mental stimulation also prevents brain decay as your dog ages and combats boredom, leading to destructive behavior.

A lot of aspects go into mentally stimulating your dog. Lets take a look at a few that you can try out.

Training

With your English Cream Golden Retriever being so clever, they will learn basic obedience commands and life skills quickly and easily. Obedience commands include but are not limited to sit, down, rollover, and paw. Examples of life skills are potty training, crate training, and independence training.

Working for Their Food

English Cream Golden Retrievers used to hunt and therefore really enjoy working for their food. I recommend using something like the KONG Classic Dog Toy from Amazon.com. This product works by putting food inside of it. The only way your dog will get their kibble is by chewing and playing with their Kong until the kibble falls out a few at a time. Using the Kong will help slow down mealtime, burn off extra calories, and give your dog a stimulating activity to do at the same time.

Food Puzzles

Food Games

An easy and affordable food game that can mentally stimulate your dog is hide-and-seek. All you need to do for this game is hide several bowls of their food around your house or garden and allow your dog to sniff them out and enjoy their meal.

This Dog Eats Three Meals Every Day

There is not a lot that the English Cream Golden Retriever dog does not enjoy!

Like other Retrievers, these dogs are not fussy in what they eat, preferring instead to gobble up anything they can get their cream-colored paws on!

Whatever owners choose to feed, it should be between 2 and 3 cups of high quality dog food. This should be split into three or two meals each day .

Whatever you feed, it should contain around 30% protein, 12-18% fat and 30-35% carbohydrates.

When it comes to treats, try to feed healthier treats such as dog safe fruits and vegetables, as opposed to calorie filled over the counter treats.

This breeds diet works best if you follow the 80/20 rule.

Feeding 80% of your dogs calories in their main food source and making up the remaining extra 20% with treats.

Some owners recommend feeding bones as a form of dental hygiene.

However, this should be done with caution, only feed thicker bones to avoid splintering, only allow your dog to chew for short periods of time and only ever feed under owner supervision.

What Is An English Cream Golden Retrievers Size

According to the GRCA, a Golden Retriever must weigh 65 to 75 pounds for males and 55 to 65 pounds for females. English Cream Golden Retriever weight can fall anywhere in this acceptable range. Because they tend to be stocky, they may weigh a bit more than their cousins. All members of the breed are mid-size dogs bigger than lap dogs but not too big to be scooped up when necessary. As hunting dogs, they have powerful, muscular and well-balanced bodies.

What Are English Cream Golden Retrievers

River UPDATE – English Cream Golden Retriever – Family Bred Puppies

June 5, 2019 by Karen Summers

What are English Cream Golden Retrievers? Are they different from American Golden Retrievers? How are they similar? Are there REALLY health differences? Are there exaggerations on the internet? What is the history of the breed? You will find answers to these questions and more on this page.

The Golden Retriever pictured above is our Micah who is an excellent example of an English Golden Retriever. He is a champion of 6 countries, an FCI International Champion, and a Canadian Grand Champion.

English Golden Retrievers Are Not a Separate Breed

All Golden Retrievers are one breed and are registered as simply Golden Retrievers by the American Kennel Club. However, there are two different types of Golden Retrievers bred to two different standards. The type commonly referred to as English Cream Golden Retrievers are actually Golden Retrievers imported primarily from Europe. These imports are bred to the FCI standard instead of to the AKC standard for Golden Retrievers.

    History of the Breed

Then about 20-25 years ago a few puppy mills began importing the lighter colored European dogs to the U.S. They gave them the name English Cream Golden Retrievers and began marketing them as if they were a separate breed. They often called them White Golden Retrievers as well as English Cream Golden Retrievers.

    White Golden Retriever Cancer

As weve been discussing the similarities and differences between the English and the American Golden Retriever breed lines, it may seem like telling the two breed lines apart requires a very keen eye for subtle distinctions!

But there is one area where the differences become painfully obvious, and that is canine cancer.

According to the Golden Retriever Foundation, 57 percent of female American Golden Retrievers and 66 percent of male American Golden Retrievers will pass away from cancer.

American Golden Retrievers have an average lifespan of 10 to 11 years.

According to the Kennel Clubs breed health survey, 38.8 percent of English Golden Retrievers will pass away from cancer.

In contrast, English Golden Retrievers have an average lifespan of 12 years and 3 months.

These breed line differences are significant, to the point where the Morris Animal Foundation has now commissioned a Golden Retriever Lifetime Study to gather data aimed at reducing cancer incidence in the American Golden Retriever breed.

English Cream Retrievers Originate From Scotland Not England

Another surprising fact about the English Golden Retriever is their origin. Regardless of the name suggesting that this breed originates from England, they actually come from Scotland.

Golden Retrievers themselves have been around for many years. The first mating for this breed occurred in 1864 , and it produced four puppies. Since 1864, modifications have been done to the breed, resulting in what we now know to be the popular Golden Retriever.

We learned earlier that a range of colored coats could be found within the same Golden Retriever litter. Therefore, cream-colored Golden Retrievers can be bred anywhere in the world, not just in England. However, you will see them more commonly in Europe.

According to the Golden Retriever Club of America, most English Cream Golden Retrievers found in America were bred in America or are descendants from imported dogs. These imported dogs, however, were not limited to England but many other European countries as well.

It is incorrect to call a light Golden Retriever English if they were bred in America. They would have the characteristics of an American Golden Retriever with a pale coat. They do not become English simply because they have a pale coat.

Personality: Are English Cream Golden Retrievers More Mellow

Yes. Typically, English Cream Retrievers are calmer than their American counterparts, but that doesnt mean they have lower activity levels, especially as a young pup. But overall, theyre easier to train.

In general, Golden Retrievers are known for having that puppy-like trait throughout their life, but English Cream Goldens are said to mature faster, especially when a lot of time and attention is placed into training and socialization.

That doesnt mean they need less attention and love. No matter what type of Goldie it is, theyll always look for affection, like when it comes to scary things, like escalators:

All Golden Retrievers are kind, loving, and great with children. Theyre extremely affectionate and gentle. For these reasons, theyre known to be great therapy and service dogs.

These social pupper-flies are great with other dogs and cats even if introduced later in life. They are a very patient breed and tend to get along with all people and pets.

Unfortunately, their social nature makes them susceptible to social anxiety. Theyd rather always have someone with which to engage.

Like what we mentioned earlier, English Cream Golden Retrievers are highly trainable. Theyre intelligent, loyal, and are eager to please their owners.

Youll be able to quickly teach your pup commands like Sit, Stay, and Come. With positive reinforcement and a few treats, almost nothing is impossible with this breed.

There Is Only One Golden Retriever Breed

American, Canadian, English, cream, gold, red, stocky, field bred golden retrievers are all golden retrievers.

Yes, there may be some variability in appearance, energy levels, and even health , but theyre all golden retrievers and are more similar than they are different.

How To Care For Your English Cream Golden

English Cream Golden Retrievers have high maintenance coats that require weekly brushing to avoid matting.

Theyre not hypoallergenic dogs and are considered heavy shedders. Shedding can become worse when blowing their coats during spring and fall.

Control the fur frenzy with lint rollers, a vacuum, and grooming tools like a de-shedding brush, comb, and glove.

For bathing, this could be done once or twice a month. It will depend on how much outdoor and swimming time theyre getting.

Ears should be checked and cleaned weekly. Paying attention to eye and ear care can help keep infection at bay. Teeth brushing is best done daily, but its okay to do it once a week.

Nail clipping is best done monthly, but it will depend on how active your fido is. Active canines tend to wear their nails down. If not, you can trim them every two weeks or when you hear them clicking against the floor.

You can also bring her to the grooming salon for some pampering.

Speaking of being active, English Cream Golden Retrievers need at least an hour of exercise a day. You can divide this into a two 30-minute-walk.

Whats important is for your pooch to get tired, so that she can be happy and relaxed in the evening.

Although they love the outdoors, you should still mix up her activities to avoid boredom. Their love for water is a great option. Invest in a doggy pool so she can play on her own in your backyard.

Just take it easy with the doggy snacks because all Golden Retrievers love food!
