Nering With Goldens Without Borders Rescue

San Diego therapy dog sent to Central California
We’ve been asked to help four Labrador Retrievers who have been saved from a slaughterhouse in China by the Goldens Without Borders Rescue . Upon GWB’s arrival at the slaughterhouse, they discovered many Labrador Retrievers were there in addition to the Golden Retrievers they had been expecting. It didn’t take them long to realize they could not leave them behind. This decision exponentially increased the costs and resources of GWB which is why they reached out to fellow dog rescue groups such as ours for assistance. After some discussion, the board unanimously agreed to help GWB with this rescue endeavor which means these four dogs were able to hitch a ride to the states with their fellow rescued canines and they are now looking for their forever homes.

Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue

The Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue is located in Elverta, California, on eight acres of land where their golden retrievers can run, play, and train. This rescue provides sanctuary to goldens from all over California and the United States. All of this is made possible thanks to the facilitys network of volunteers and fosters who do everything in their power to help and rescue golden retrievers in need.

This rescue rarely has golden retriever puppies for adoption, so youll have a far better chance of adopting an adult or senior dog from them. To adopt a golden, youll need to first fill out an online adoption form. From there, a volunteer will review your application and schedule a home visit .

Once you have been approved for adoption, you can call the rescue to inquire about available dogs or check their website to see if there are any goldens that interest you. If theres a match, you will meet the dog in person, and if it all goes well, youll just have to sign a contract and take your new dog home.

All golden retrievers from this rescue have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and checked by a vet before adoption. Adoption fees vary according to the golden retrievers needs and age fees for younger goldens are always higher than fees for adult and senior dogs.

Golden Retriever Club Of Greater Los Angeles Rescue

The Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue is one of the oldest golden retriever rescues in southern California. This rescue serves six southern California counties including Riverside, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Diego, Orange, and Ventura.

The GRCGLARs team is made up of volunteers who have many years of experience with the golden retriever breed in varying capacities.

While the Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue is ready to help any golden retriever in need, they are particularly committed to helping sick, injured, and senior goldens.

If you are interested in adopting from this rescue, youll need to fill out an online adoption application and submit it with a $25 donation. It will likely take around 7 to 10 days for the rescue staff to contact you and schedule a home visit. After a successful home visit, the rescue staff will do their best to match you with the perfect dog for your family.

Its worth noting that this rescue doesnt adopt to homes with children under the age of seven! If you have younger kids, you might want to wait until they get a bit older, consider adopting a dog from another rescue, or simply purchase a dog from a breeder.

Why Should You Adopt

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Golden Retriever Rescues In California

I have to admit, Golden Retrievers have to be one of the best breeds on the planet. Of course I am a bit partial to them. With all the current events going on right now, there are not many golden retriever puppies available, especially with breeders. Shelters and rescues are completely empty of most breeds. Which is a great time for dogs looking for homes. In an attempt to give back, I am placing information regarding rescues for Golden Retrievers in California here on my blog.

So if you are on a hunt for a golden, then hopefully this will give you a jumpstart. The list below is mostly breed specific to golden retrievers. That doesnt mean other rescues dont have Goldens. Sometimes you can check non-breed specific rescues as well.

Why Do People Put Golden Retrievers Up For Adoption

Golden Retrievers are put up for adoption and need rescuing for a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons include:

  • Golden Retrievers are very active. Many people underestimate the amount of exercise a Golden needs. If you dont exercise this dog breed, they may become destructive around your house.
  • Golden Retrievers usually bark. When theyre not properly trained, some Golden Retrievers will bark. This is due to several factors into stress, anxiety, territorial needs, fear, or wanting to play. Some apartments or households cannot accommodate barking.
  • Pet Allergies. Golden Retrievers arent hypoallergenic. They shed hair and pick up dandruff which causes pet allergies. Many dog owners dont know they are allergenic to Golden Retrievers before they adopt one.
  • Financial Costs. Dogs cost a lot of money to maintain. Especially if they have underlying health conditions. Many times people can not afford to keep their dog so they are forced to surrender them.
  • Owners Health. Unfortunate events in life happen and sometimes a person gets sick or passes away. If youre no longer able to care for a Golden Retriever, then we highly suggest you put them in one of these reputable rescues in California.

Most golden retriever rescues advise families to wait until their children are at least 7 years old before they consider adopting a golden retriever. In fact, many rescues wont adopt their dogs to families with younger children. An exception can be made only if you, the parent, have experience owning a large sporting dog.

If you dont have children yet but plan to have them in the near future, think long and hard about whether adopting a dog now is a good decision. If you meet all the other criteria for adoption, you have a better chance of adopting a puppy or adult golden retriever as a single or couple without children.

Is It Hard To Adopt A Golden Retriever

Over the past few years, fewer and fewer golden retrievers have been surrendered to shelters and rescue organizations, and most rescues now have waiting lists for adoption. An adoption process can take between two weeks and a month to finalize if everything checks out and the rescue already has a perfect dog for you. However, this rarely happens, and you may end up waiting up to a year for a perfect golden retriever to appear.

Keep in mind, the more requirements you have for a dog, the longer the wait will be. For example, you can wait several months to a full year for a golden retriever puppy to be put for adoption. On the other hand, you may be able to finalize the adoption and sign the contract for an adult or senior golden retriever in just a couple of weeks.

Most people today decide on buying a new Golden Retriever puppy instead of adopting, rescuing, or fostering one. Its understandable that owners, especially those with no previous experience, opt to buy a Golden Retriever puppy rather than rescuing a dog from a shelter. By doing this they have a chance to learn and grow with their puppy, learn how to train them, and mold them into the dog they want. On the other hand, a Golden Retriever from shelters often comes with behavioral issues due to the mistreatment from previous owners. Correcting those behavioral issues can be a daunting task even for professionals, let alone first-time owners. However, if you are Californian and have an interest in Golden Retriever adoption, we bring you a list of Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue centers that can help you do a good deed.

On the other hand, maybe you cant take care of your Golden Retriever anymore. No problem, these rescue centers will do it for you and find him a new home.
