Best In Show has been awarded since 1907 and Group competition has been held since 1924.
The column headings in each chart represent the number of Best In Show Awards and Group placements in each position. The year in parentheses in the BIS and 1 column represents the last year that this breed won BIS and the last year that it won the Group; the number in parentheses in one of the other columns represents the last year that the breed placed in the Group; if there is a year only in the 1 Group column, that means that the last time that the breed placed in the Group, it won the group. List Of Best In Show Winners Of Crufts
The title Best in Show is awarded annually to the dog chosen as winner of the Crufts dog show, according to conformation show rules. This title was first awarded in 1928, the initial winner being Primley Sceptre, a fawn Greyhound. Previously, Crufts had used the title “Best Champion“, sponsored by the Illustrated Kennel News, which was awarded from 1905 to 1914. The first winner of Best Champion was Ch. The Sable Mite, a Pomeranian. According to Crufts: The Official History the first winner of that award was the first dog to be considered the “best” at a Crufts show, although it only lists winners between 1906 and 1912.
When Best Champion was introduced at Crufts in 1905, it was seen by Charles Cruft as an extension of the other titles already available at the show. The class was one of several classes reserved for Crufts subscribers at the cost of a guinea per year. Because of the restriction in entry, there were years when the winner of Best Champion was defeated in other classes which were not restricted to subscribers. Crufts was not the first dog show in the UK to introduce this type of title, the first event to do so was at the Cambridge Canine Society Show in 1900.

Boxer Advances To The Final Seven Two Years In A Row
9:20 p.m.: For the second year in a row, Wilma, a boxer, advances to the final seven.
Wilma beat out 28 other dogs in the working group to move on to the championship round. Michael Shepherd, Wilmas handler, said the dog relishes the energy in this arena.
She feels it, Shepherd said.
Wilma is the second female dog to move onto the best of seven this year, along with Bourbon the whippet.

Siba, a standard poodle, became the first of her breed in almost three decades and the fifth standard poodle ever to win Westminster’s Best in Show last year. The competition was heated as Siba edged out Daniel, a fan-favorite golden retriever who fans hoped to see become the first of his breed to win the prize.

With royalty already in his name, wire fox terrier King received the crowning honor of Best in Show two years ago. He had been selected from an original field of 2,800 as the dogs worked their way over the three-day show to the final competition.

Popularity Is The Problem
What it ultimately comes down to, Kelly and others including the New York Times argue, is the problem of being too popular. A Labrador could be a worthy winner of a show like Westminster, Kelly says, but I dont think it will happen. It might be too popular as a breed and may be overlooked breeds within the group have more of a wow factor. So the reasonor, at least, a solid theorythat popular dog breeds dont win is because of the very fact that they are so popular, since dog-show judges are looking for something more in vogue. Daniel, a golden retriever, beat out 31 other breeds in the sporting group to advance to the final seven. Despite being one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States, a golden retriever has never won best in show.

What Is The Westminster Dog Show
The Westminster dog show is an all-breed conformation show, there is a requirement for entry.
The Westminster kennel club predates the formation kennel club by seven years and became the first club admitted to the AKC.
The breed parent club creates the standards for judging their breeds with the AKC administering the rules about shows and judging.
Every dog is judged by their breed standard, the standards include items such as tail carriage, color, eye shape, and more.
However, animal-rights advocates such as PETA protest the show because that show celebrates purebreds ultimately and will lead to millions of dogs dying in the shelters.

Many Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show;watchers were on the edge of their seats Tuesday night when Daniel, a 5-year-old golden from Ligonier, Pa., won the sporting group. It was the first time since 2006 that a golden retriever was advancing to the final round for that coveted blue ribbon to be named top dog.
While golden retrievers are consistently among the top three most beloved dog breeds in America , the friendly canines with the golden coats have never won Westminsters top prize since they first began competing in the elite canine competition in 1927.
And the crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City not to mention the armchair critics on Twitter TWTR, -0.89% ; thought Daniel was about to make Westminster history. Thor the Bulldog might have won Best in Show at the annual National Dog Show Presented by Purina on Thanksgiving Day, but social media fans thought the Golden Retriever Jack Daniels, also known as Daniel, was the real winner. Daniel was among the finalists for the top prize, and won the Sporting Group title Thursday. The dog is owned by Tammy Tomlinson of Ligonier, Pennsylvania and this was his second consecutive victory in the group.

“He is exactly what a golden retriever should be,” Tomlinson told TribLive.com last year. In a prophetic comment, Tomlinson predicted, “This is our practice year. 2019 is when we’re going to get really serious with him.”
