English Cream Golden Retrievers Shed A Lot

Many people claim that English Creams shed less than other goldens, but all goldens shed a good bit.

If shedding is a big issue for you, a golden retriever may not be your best bet.

That being said, there are two things you can do to help with this:

  • Consider looking for a golden retriever that has more of the field build than the show build .
  • Regularly brush your golden.
  • More Information About Golden Retriever Puppies

The Golden Retriever is the 3rd most popular dog, according to the American Kennel Club. The Golden Retriever lives up to its name with its ranges of golden colors that their magnificent coats exhibit. Golden Retriever puppies in Georgia can be a golden white to cream to light honey golden all the way to dark golden.

Per its name, this muscular, sporting breed has been utilized to retrieve fowl in outdoor hunting activities. Still, the Golden Retriever is just as happy to retrieve a frisbee or ball while enjoying outside playtime. They grow to be about 21.5 to 24 inches in height and weigh in between 55 to 75lbs. Male Golden Retriever puppies are typically larger than female puppies.

The Golden Retriever is great with families and is a trustworthy, attention-seeking companion who will joyously act like a puppy all the way into adulthood. They live to be about 10 to 12 years old but can be prone to genetic issues in the hips, elbows, and eyes. These issues can be reduced through genetic testing of parents used in breeding by a reputable breeder. Look for an ethical breeder by starting with the questions below. If a Golden Retriever breeder can not answer yes to these questions, start researching other ones.

We Are Willing To Take The Hard Road To Improve Our Program

We strive to improve our program with each new puppy or dog that we raise. With time, we have been able to greatly improve our program. We are English Cream Golden Retriever breeders who do not settle for mediocrity.

    ENGLISH CREAM GOLDEN RETRIEVER PUPPIES

Many people think that English Cream goldens live longer than other types of goldens.

The lifespan of a golden retriever does not necessarily have to do with the color of the coat or the type of golden retriever.

The more important thing to consider if you want a golden retriever whos likely to have a long, happy life is to find a quality breeder that breeds healthy dogs.

Yes, you may find many English Cream golden retriever breeders breed healthy dogs, but you also may find other golden retriever breeders produce healthy pups as well.

Good Breeders Value Health & Temperament Over Color

The most important thing for any breeder is not looks or coat color.

It will be trying to improve the breed and produce healthy puppies for a purpose.

For most golden retriever breeders, that purpose is to produce puppies with a good temperament that make good family pets.

Yes, some may prefer one color or look over another, but that will not be their main focus.

English Cream Golden Retrievers Are Not From England

No, most English Cream goldens youll find in America are not from England.

Just like French fries are not from France.

All golden retrievers originated from Scotland in the mid-1800s when Lord Tweedmouth bred a Tweed water spaniel and a yellow wavy-coated retriever.

Most American breeders of these goldens either breed dogs from here in the States or import their dogs from all over the world, including:

    • Denmark
    • The Netherlands

So how did English Cream goldens get their misleading name?

According to Bev Brown, the Kennel Club and the Golden Retriever Club, were the first ones to write up the breed standard.

And in the early 1900s, all dog shows in Britain were held in England.

So in America, we called the champions of those dog shows, English Champions.

The English seems to have stuck with goldens that look like the English champions in those days, so 100 years later were calling them English Cream Golden Retrievers.

Theyre also very smart dogs, so they need to be stimulated both physically and mentally.

Here are some ways to do that:

    • Play fetch or tug
    • Train them
    • Feed them through puzzle toys or frozen kongs
    • Take them on long walks and let them sniff around

    The Akc Does Recognize Cream

The Golden Retriever Breed Standard Illustrated

Many people think that the AKC doesnt recognize English Cream golden retrievers.

English Cream goldens are still golden retrievers, just with a fancy name and typically light coloring.

Here is what the AKC Breed Standard has to say about light golden retrievers: Predominant body color which is either extremely pale or extremely dark is undesirable.

Although it is undesirable, golden retrievers are golden retrievers, so if you have an English Cream golden, they can still be registered with the AKC as a golden retriever .

An interesting point here is that even though this light color is undesirable according to American Breed Standards, thats not the case with other countries.

Heres what the UK Breed Standard says about color: Any shade of gold or cream, neither red nor mahogany.

Heres what the Canadian Breed Standard says about color: Lustrous golden of various shades

And heres what the National Golden Retriever Council Australia says about color: Any shade of cream or gold but neither red or mahogany.

So although the American Breed Standard does not like the cream color, other countries are more accepting of it.

    English Cream Golden Retrievers

In recent years there has been a sharp increase in internet marketing strategies aimed at specifically promoting cream-colored Golden Retrievers. These light dogs are sometimes being presented to the general public as being exceptionally rare or extremely valuable and are often called English Cream Golden Retrievers or Rare White European Golden Retrievers or Exquisite Platinum Imported Golden Retrievers. Such cream Golden Retrievers are frequently being touted as being healthier, of having better temperament, of having stronger longevity and the implicit suggestion is that they therefore are more valuable than the more golden-colored Golden Retrievers bred in North America. Due to these common marketing ploys the average puppy buyer sometimes mistakes such light-colored Golden Retrievers for being a separate breed. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is only one Golden Retriever breed, governed by the breed standard endorsed by various recognized Kennel Clubs around the world.

The photo below furthermore illustrates the common shades of cream and gold found on this continent and all of these particular dogs are bred right here in North America. This broad range of color is not only commonly found around the world, but both light and dark shades can also occur in the very same Golden Retriever litter, with full siblings varying in color from very light cream to a rich gold.

Two Daughters Wanting Careers With Dogs

My oldest daughter Jenna wanted to be a vet for most of her young life. My younger daughter, Elise, was also wanting a career with dogs. At 12, Elise was unsure what career with dogs she wanted, but both girls had a big passion for animals. Together, they talked Darrell and I into a small breeding/show program that we thought would last only a few years. We began breeding initially purely for the love of our daughters.
