We are English Golden Retriever breeders who strive to produce only the very best representatives of the breed with regard to health, temperament, and appearance. Our adult dogs are all titled in conformation as well as in obedience. They are health tested with good to excellent results. After health, our primary focus is producing puppies with good temperaments. Then we put those genetically sound puppies through a puppy raising program that cant be beat.

Health Tested Golden Retrievers From 100% Imported Lines

Secondly, as Golden Retriever breeders who care about quality, health is of utmost importance. All of our English Golden Retriever parents have passed tests for hips, elbows, heart, and eyes and have had DNA testing. All of our dogs have passed with hip scores equivalent to either OFA excellent or good. We have no dogs rated as fair in any category. English Cream Golden Retrievers Are Smart

According to canine psychologist, Dr. Stanley Coren, and his book, The Intelligence of Dogs, golden retrievers are the fourth smartest breed, behind Border Collies , Poodles , and German Shepherds .

This is great because theyre easy to train and intuitive.

However, because theyre so smart they can be mischievous, especially if theyre not mentally stimulated.

We are a small family-oriented hobby breeder located on the eastern plains of Colorado. We have beautiful AKC English Cream Golden Retrievers. All our English Cream Golden Retrievers are part of our family and live with us inside, not in a kennel. Our English Cream Golden Retrievers have plenty of room to play and run when they are enjoying a romp or fetching a new stick on our 20 acres of property. Our Golden Retriever puppies are well socialized, loved and will start training before going to their forever home. I believe a Golden is at her/ his best when they have a job to do. All our Golden Retrievers compete in competitive Conformation, Agility, and Obedience events. I believe the time we spend with our Golden Retrievers teaching and training them to compete in these events strengthens the bond that we share, as well as keeping our dogs in top condition mentally and physically.

We have only a few litters a year, so most puppies are sold before they are born. Reserving a puppy from planned litters is recommended. The parents of our Golden Retrievers have titles to prove their worth in both the conformation ring as well as the obedience ring. All breeding dogs have excellent health clearances including cardiac clearances with a cardiologist, yearly eye clearances, excellent elbows, and very tight hips that are either rated good or excellent. English Cream Golden Retrievers Are Not From England

No, most English Cream goldens youll find in America are not from England.

Just like French fries are not from France.

All golden retrievers originated from Scotland in the mid-1800s when Lord Tweedmouth bred a Tweed water spaniel and a yellow wavy-coated retriever.

Most American breeders of these goldens either breed dogs from here in the States or import their dogs from all over the world, including:

• Denmark
• The Netherlands

So how did English Cream goldens get their misleading name?

According to Bev Brown, the Kennel Club and the Golden Retriever Club, were the first ones to write up the breed standard.

And in the early 1900s, all dog shows in Britain were held in England.

So in America, we called the champions of those dog shows, English Champions.

The English seems to have stuck with goldens that look like the English champions in those days, so 100 years later were calling them English Cream Golden Retrievers.

The Akc Does Recognize Cream

The Golden Retriever Breed Standard Illustrated

Many people think that the AKC doesnt recognize English Cream golden retrievers.

English Cream goldens are still golden retrievers, just with a fancy name and typically light coloring.

Here is what the AKC Breed Standard has to say about light golden retrievers: Predominant body color which is either extremely pale or extremely dark is undesirable.

Although it is undesirable, golden retrievers are golden retrievers, so if you have an English Cream golden, they can still be registered with the AKC as a golden retriever .

An interesting point here is that even though this light color is undesirable according to American Breed Standards, thats not the case with other countries.

Heres what the UK Breed Standard says about color: Any shade of gold or cream, neither red nor mahogany.

Heres what the Canadian Breed Standard says about color: Lustrous golden of various shades

And heres what the National Golden Retriever Council Australia says about color: Any shade of cream or gold but neither red or mahogany.

So although the American Breed Standard does not like the cream color, other countries are more accepting of it.

English Cream Golden Retrievers Are Popular

According to the AKC, golden retrievers are the 4th most popular breed in America, behind Labradors, French Bulldogs, and German shepherds.

This is great because theyre such good dogs and everybody deserves to have one.

Another plus is that its rare to see golden retrievers in the pound because theyre usually adopted right away.

But its also bad because irresponsible breeders have tried to jump on the bandwagon and make some money breeding them without worrying about health and temperament history.

If you do decide to get a golden retriever from a breeder, make sure to do your research before you choose one.

Coat Color And Grooming

The English cream retrieverââ¬â¢s breed standard permits any shade of gold or cream coat color, which is neither mahogany nor red. This means these dogs donââ¬â¢t necessarily have to have a cream or platinum coat. However, platinum dogs are highly popular and there is always a higher demand for puppies with a paler coat.The English cream has a medium-length, silky, water-resistant double coat that sheds moderately all year round. This breed also goes through a heavy shed twice a year ââ¬â in the spring and fall. Youââ¬â¢ll have to brush your dog at least three times a week to prevent mats and tangles and keep his coat in tip-top condition.When it comes to bathing, you can bathe your English cream once in a couple of months or more often if he gets very dirty. If you need to bathe your dog more often, use a hypoallergenic natural dog shampoo that wonââ¬â¢t damage your dogââ¬â¢s skin or coat.
